Remarks

The college is really good. The students here have a healthy variety and everyone shares an awesome rapport. However, the management can be a lot better. Every event requires the organizers to run from place to place for all sorts of permissions and approvals and what not! The heads of departments are always ears for any queries the students face, however, the outcome isn't usually quick or even expected. Although the queries students face are all small (eg: unavailability of cartridges in printers), but they are definitely avoidable. The management has a lot of scope for improvement on the day to day workings.

Entrance Preview

I had taken the JEE Mains in 2014. I scored 91 marks. I chose this college because MIT Group of Institutions has a very good reputation all over the city and has recognition on a national level as well. The infrastructure in this campus is much much better than most of the engineering colleges in the city. MIT also hosts a variety of national level events and festivals, which makes it an exciting place to study in. The location of the college is a big USP. Kothrud is well within the Pune City, well connected and close to all the popular places where students hang out. I took Computer Engineering because I generated an interest in computer while I studied IT in my Jr. College.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is pretty decent. First years face all the subjects from all the disciples of engineering, which is rather unnecessary in my personal opinion. However, it also makes us aware of what other students will be studying henceforth. Second Year on wards the core subjects of the branch start. The contents are a mix of primary concepts and a pinch of application based theory. In terms of the study of the latest in the industry, the curriculum is far behind. But that is to be blamed to the Pune University. Because of the odd expectations like written assignments and ageing old syllabi of the university, its difficult for students to explore research. However, nevertheless, the college provides excellent research facilities and faculty mentorship, if one chooses to do research. The institute has academic and research collaboration with reputed institutes like COEP, DIAT and industries like KPIT, Tech Mahindra and many more.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not provide internship. The students are expected to intern on their own. However, the college does support internships and provides a leave interval for the time the student interns at a company or firm.

Placement Experience

4.5

The college placement record is very good. Of all the students, about 80% of people were eligible for the job interviews. 90+% of the eligible students were placed in a variety of companies. A combined statistics of the the three engineering colleges of MIT Group shows that about 1131 students were placed in various companies. These statistics are a combined numbers from MIT, MITCOE and MITAOE since all three colleges face the placements together. The companies who come for recruitment include Accenture, Deloitte, ADP, CapGemini, Blue Star, Mercedes, Infosys, IBM, nvidia, HP, HSBC, ZS Associates etc. The package ranges from about 3.5 lakh per annum CTC to about 16 lakh per annum CTC. Mass recruiters like Accenture usually offer 3.5 lakh per annum package.

College Events

5

The college hosts a lot of events. The cultural team organises Aarohan- The Cultural Fest. This national level fest is entertaining and is a good opportunity for the students to hone their creative skills. The technical team organizes Tesla. Tesla is the flagship event of the college and its nature is technical. This 2 day mega event witnesses participants from around the country. The events in Tesla are interesting and the creativity reaches its peak with the themed decorations. The E Cell of the college organizes the AEM, that is the Annual Entrepreneurship Meet, where competitions and seminars are organised for the students to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship in the students. Apart from these events, there are many more programs and events in the entire campus which are accessible to every student on the campus. The regulars like the Traditional Day etc too are celebrated. The MIT campus comprises of management, engineering , pharmacy and governance schools, hence the number of events are always very high.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees of the college is nor too less, nor too high. I'm taking MITCOE while stating this. Compared to other colleges and the infrastructure they provide, the fees at MITCOE is worth what you get. The college fees are in the range of 95 thousand to 1 lac rupees per annum depending on the year of admission. The college also provides concessional fees to students from poor economic background.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college provides all the free ships to the students from SC/ ST, OBC castes as per the government norms. Fee waivers to student of teachers and students from economically poor families also receive fee waivers. On a management level, poor but deserving student are provided waivers at the discretion of the management. Apart from the fee waivers, the institute has installed 14 gold medals and 6 memorial medals to honor the meritorious students from the institution. Indian Plastics Institute’s “Professor M V Joshi Platinum Jubilee Endowment Award” of Rs. 7,500/- cash to a student of Polymer Engineering securing maximum marks in the subjects related to Polymer Processing, Mould, Die and Product Design. In the memory of Late Vaibhav Kanitkar who was a past student of MIT, two scholarships are paid from the annual interest of Rs.2,00,000/-. An equal amount is awarded to two students.

Campus Life

5

Campus life at MITCOE is really engaging. The locality and reputation of the institute makes the inflow of students very unique. The diversity it offers is exceptional. The gender ratio is well maintained, except for stereotypical branches like Mechanical, who've always had more boys than girls. The campus is host to an annual national level sports symposium called Summit. This competition welcomes sportsmen from around the country. MIT is also host to Robocon, the national level robotics competition. Hence, Robotics is a big part of the campus discussions. The college has a Magazine Cell, which looks after the literary programs. It manages the college magazine, and organizes literary events and MUNs. The overall crowd at the campus is decent. Most of them are from good families and maintain good relations with everyone. However, there is a slight element of politics involved which is easily neglected by the normal student. Girls and boys are treated with respect and there is no sign of improper sexual orientation.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The college hostel facilities are not exceptionally good. The mess food too, isn't exactly very good. The hostel rooms are shared. The girls hostel is in the campus but the boys hostel is outside the college premises. The condition of the boys hostel isn't very good. Most of the students who have stayed in the hostel haven't been exactly happy about the experience. However, the locality provides excellent staying facilities. A 2 bhk flat will cost around 20000 rupees on a monthly rental around the college. When shared with friends , per head amount comes to around 5 k per head for a rather independent stay.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni stay in touch with the college. The college organizes alumni meets for student interaction. The Alumni Meets are especially very helpful for the students to understand the industry from their seniors' point of view. The Alumni Association sometimes funds a few events in the college.

Exam Structure

Exam Structure is well organised and the college infrastructure is excellent in handling any kind of challenge the university throws at them. Hardly any lab is not maintained. The computers in the labs boast the newest hardware and are constantly updated as and when required.

Faculty

3.5

Maximum of the faculty in the college is well qualified and experienced. However, qualification doesn't mean teaching is their cup of tea. Out of let's say 10 teachers, hardly 3 are genuinely intelligent and are able to convey their knowledge to the students in an engaging manner. 5 of the remaining 7 are such who have knowledge, but unable to convey it, either because of inexperience in teaching, or lack of interest in teaching, or maybe both. But these teachers still make it a point to take regular lectures and make sure the students get what they want to express. It may be a matter of time before these teachers get the correct way. However, there also exists at least 2 people, who apparently seem to have no knowledge and are really bad teachers.
