I am a currently pursuing BTech in mechanical engineering from JEC. It was established in 1960 and holds a good name among the engineering colleges in Assam. It has a widely spread campus and almost every hostel owns a field for playing games such as cricket and football. The college hosts its annual fest phoenix where students participate enthusiastically. It also has clubs such as photography, poetry, art etc which helps to enhance skills of those who are interested in their respective fields. The placements of the college are quite ok, like if u work hard then you'll grab one. CSE tops the list in terms of placement. About 50% are placed and the rest go for gate or try for off campus placements. For core branches (mech, civil, electrical) the placements are decent, being run by the state govt the fees is quite affordable for everybody who wishes to pursue engineering. The process for admission in JEC is you have to appear for the state CEE exam and then sit for counselling
Initially, I wanted to go for the CSE branch but due to the preference I filled, I ended up getting mechanical at JEC. And I don't have any regrets as the friends and the teachers I got here are highly supportive. There are about 100 seats for mechanical engineering students, the highest among all other branches. The classes will be divided into sections later on so that the faculty: student ratio is maintained. The teachers are knowledgeable and very helpful in academic related issues. Our term exams were a bit shifted due to corona. We have given 2 of our term exams and it is quite easy to pass if you have attended the classes regularly.
The placements are quite good for the CSE branch, more than 50% are placed almost every year in companies such as TCS, WIPRO, COGNIZANT, etc and rest of the core branches like mechanical, civil, electrical various PSU's like OIL, Vedanta, and various startups to come for recruitment. OIL hires 2-3 with a package of 12 LPA and rests give 6-8 LPA on avg.
The fees structure of JEC is quite affordable, as being run by the state government and is totally value for money. Yearly it's 11k and 44k for four years which is quite less for engineering. There are various scholarships that you can opt for like ISHAN UDAY for the northeastern region (provided you shouldn't have dropped a year after 12th) and Merit-cum-means scholarship for minorities.
The college has its annual fest phoenix in the month of March-April. And the aura it creates is awesome. The college has its library from which you can borrow books if u have a library card which will be provided after admissions. Jec also has its bus service which helps the students residing in pg to come to the college If you join hostel then it will give true values and experiences of life which will help in the long run, the college has various inter hostel competitions like cricket, football, badminton, table tennis, etc in which students represent their hostels. There are various clubs for students like photography, art, poetry etc for inculcating inner hobbies. Overall campus life is good.
The hostel has a bed, a personal study table, wardrobe. A mess room , A common room for enjoying cricket matches with seniors and for other activities. A gymnasium but you won't be able to use it in the first year unless the seniors allow, a small library for engg related books. The meal provide in the hostel is quite decent. It runs with a routined menu... Give non-veg and veg food on respective days... Hostel fees -?12000 for 1 year and degrades afterwards. Mess fees is about - ?2000-?2500 monthly The pg will cost you around -?5000 per months
The placement scenario is very good. The training and placement cell is responsible for bringing in more companies. The maximum placement is done in IT sectors and the CSE department gets the maximum paid jobs. The highest pay goes up to 35LPA and the average is 8LPA. Most of the students are placed in IT companies. Few core companies also visit but for that, the competition is very high. In CSE almost 100% of students get placement with an average of 10LPA. For other departments, the percentage of placement is a little less but more or less every decent student will get the placement if they work a little hard. My plan after The degree is to get a job from college. I shall be continuing my job for 2 years or so and meanwhile, I'll prepare for some other competitive exams like MBA or IES.
From 6th semester students can become eligible for placements. As I am in 1st year I don't know so much about the companies but I have heard that wipro and Oil India Limited came. Percentage of students getting a placement is average but if you are good in your filed their is a possibility that you can get the job.
From 5th semester students become eligible fir campus placement. The companies like ONGC, NRL, OIL, APDCL, etc. have visited the college and offered a lot of seats to the students. Highest 150000 per month package and average 80000 per month package are in record of the offer . More than 40% students get placement from this college every year. I would like to go for higher studies after completing my degree in this college.
Students get their placements from the 7th semester onward. Companies like COGNIZANT, VEDANTA, WIPRO, TCS, INFOSYS, HUL come here every year. Also PSUs like OIL, ONGC, APDCL come here for placements. In CSE around 80% of students get placed every year. In mechanical around 40%, in electrical around 45%, and in civil around 30% get placed every year.
The placement for CSE is good. Around 70% of students are getting placed every year. Wipro, TCS and many other companies and IT companies hire students from the CSE branch. In mechanical placement is average around 40% of students get placed every year. OIL, NRL, APDCL, IOCL etc PSU's came and hire students from the mechanical branch along with the privet companies. Placement of CIVIL is not so good and electrical is quite average. In IE placement in not so good.
My admission was through CEE exam whose Counselling process is automated & we just give college preferences. Then according to ranks we are allotted to different colleges in Assam. So I was allotted to this Institution. Some other factors are:-1. Guwahati is a beautiful city with a lot of professional exposure.2. Gauhati University is the topmost state-owned University in Assam. 3. The campus is beautiful with lush green environment.4. The professors are always reachable & guide us through any difficult situation we face. All in all I'm satisfied to have joined GUIST.
Placements are not as good as other colleges, rather the studies are better than the others. Most of the people opt for higher studies & among the rest, last year 90% got placed in companies like Wipro, TCS, Indian Oil, M&M, and some other companies either through the placement cell or direct interviews. As I know, highest salary was 12lakhs per annum(CSE) & lowest was around 3.5lakhs PA(ECE) & average salary was around 4.5lakhs-6lakhs(actual figure unknown).
This college was recommended by my brother. Campus infrastructure is good. The library is surely very good, it has a lot of books, which can be issued by students or teachers of the college through their library cards.
Very poor. Good companies do not come for placements, only few private companies come and take maybe few students.
I choose this Institute as it was something I wanted to opt for my career. As it has got the disciplinary which I wanted to opt for my degree. And the campus here is pretty good. There are lots of facility and infrastructure for the convenient of Dayscholar students too. The campus is a residential campus with a central Library for the students. And the college give a immense area for the Cocurriculam activities for the student to maintain a physical and mental health of the student.
Placement here are good. There are quite a good number of companies visited to college. The placement department here is good. The alumni of the Institute are very free frank and helpful. Every alumni of our college is quite reachable.
The student who wants to take admission to 4 years Full-time B.Tech Program should have passed 10+2 with PCM with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks from a recognized board. It requires clearing the entrance examination JEE-MAINS to enroll.
Placement and job opportunities are average. It changes from year to year and depends on the capability and activeness of the Training and Placement Cell in the college. An internship is provided by the college which is compulsory for all and helps in practice and learns things well.
College should improve alot in every aspects like teaching, placement, ragging free, and other facilities like canteen and hostels of their own. And obviously the wifi and internet facility is quite poor. Even we can't receive any signals in our phone network in particular operators like vodafone-idea, bsnl. Jio and airtel has a very little network.
