Entrance Preview

After the rank list of JEE came out, I applied for this university through PTU Counselling. But now the procedure is different. Anyone who wants to apply here needs to fill different counselling on gndu.ac.in. Admission process was not so complex.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I think the course syllabus is a bit outdated and it needs to be reviewed. All it contains is the study of the obsolete machines and technology. There is a need to add the latest technology as well. Talking about the labs, most of them have very old equipments and need to be replaced. Only some new equipments are there and so all the students of the group use the same kit for performing experiments.

Internships Opportunities

No such internship is provided specifically by our college. It is only up to the companies to offer internships. Some teachers offer opportunity to work with them or to mentor us. No stipend is given for this purpose.

Placement Experience

3

Our campus has approximately 100% placement record. TCS, Capegemini, Wipro, Software AG, Naggaro, Tech Mahindra, and many more IT companies. Most of them offer a pakage around 3.5 lakh. Some companies of dream slot like Software AG offer high packages from 4 lakh to 10 lakh.

College Events

4.5

The biggest cultural event of our university is JASHAN that occurs annually in the even semester. In the odd semester our university hosts the Youth Festival of Amritsar area. No technical events are funded by the University. Even Techfest happens once in 5 years. Means techfest is not an annual event as is in most of the colleges of the country. We organise some technical events at our level particularly for our department.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have not availed any scholarship or loans but these facilities are available for the needy students.

Campus Life

3

Gender ratio is good. Campus Life is also good but not the best. Obviously it cannot match the life of the IITs. There is a lot of diversity on campus itself. With 52 departments in the university and near about 10,000 people studying, teaching, working in the campus. All are from different areas of punjab. Even some students are also from other states like UP, HP, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan and maybe more.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

There are two boys hostels and four girls hostel. The Girls Hostel 1 and 2 have so suffocating and small rooms. It is very difficult to live in these rooms where no space is left after placing two beds and a table. Seriously it is so congested.

Exam Structure

The day is not very hectic. The only thing is that we have exams 3 times in a semester. 2 minors and 1 major exam. Minors are of 20 marks each. Then is a assignment or quiz of 10 marks. Finally the major exam is of 50 marks. PASSING MARKS IS 31. We follow CGPA system here. We need to multiply our CGPA by 8.9 in order to get overall percentage.

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
