Remarks
I applied to Chandigarh University after my 12th result. I was asked about my 12th-grade marks and JEE Mains result as well according to which I was provided with a 50% scholarship. I belong to the OBC category but I didn't avail it for admission. The minimum marks required for admission in CU is more than 60% in 12th. They also take the CUCET exam, i.e an entrance exam of the university.
Course Curriculum Overview
Chandigarh University provides almost all kinds of courses in different branches. I was interested in computer engineering since 11th, hence I opted for the following course. The student ratio in engineering is about 3:14. Faculty members are all friendly and teaching criteria is fine. Although a lot of assignments are given almost every 3-4 days. There is very little gap between second midterm tests and final exams. Exams are not timely, so it puts a lot of burden on students.
Internships Opportunities
University offers a lot of internship opportunities every year and on every holiday. Training and paid internships are also provided. Projects are funded. Patents are also encouraged. Teachers also help a lot.
Placement Experience
Placements for my batch has not arrived yet. I do not have any personal experience but I've heard from the seniors that placement is average in CU. Most companies provide 4-5 LPA packages whereas a few of them offer more than that. The highest package was more than 32 LPA (as of 2020). Even if students don't get placed, they're hired as interns for a few months.
Fees and Financial Aid
As I mentioned earlier my academic and hostel fee is 80K and 86K a year. I would like to brief you that the engineering academic fee is 80K per semester. Although I was provided with a 50% scholarship, so I have to pay half of it per semester. According to the latest fee policy, the academic fee has been raised to 90K per semester and the hostel fee has been raised to 90K per year. For a middle-class student, it is a much more high price to pay. The same course is provided in other colleges with much less fee. So, in these terms, CU is not doing well. Further, there multiple scholarships that can be provided by the university, according to 12th marks or by clearing the entrance exam. They also assist you with loan facilities.
Campus Life
A number of fests are conducted in the university almost every month. Celebrities are also invites to these events. The annual fest is also hosted, although since I joined, amidst covid-19, these events did not happen. University has a huge library having all kinds of books. Also, each department has its own library as well. All kinds of facilities are provided in classrooms. Water taps, washrooms also there on every floor of the building. Classrooms are fully lit. There a number of sports also supported by the faculty. We have a basketball team as well. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. DSW: Department of students welfare is a group run by students to provide assistance and maintenance to students needs. All in all, University has great opportunities.
Hostel Facilities
The cost of the hostel (as of 2021) is 90K per year including food, gym, WiFi and parlour facilities. Confectionery is also provided inside the hostel. All the hostels have huge gardens as well. Rooms are lit and have balconies. Some rooms also have attached bathrooms. One room has 4 students. Each of them has a seperate cupboard. Water taps and public washrooms are also there on every floor. A few hostels have lift facilities. Food is good and clean. The menu is different for the whole week. Though girls hostel has a lot of strictness. They have to be inside the hostel gates after 7 pm.
