Remarks

According to my rank ( Gen- 7400, OBC - 1329), I was getting civil, chemical, metallurgy, in old IIT'S, or CSE in new IIT'S. I was interested in Software engineering, so I gave preference to CSE. I got Mathematics and Computing at IIT Ropar. I am an OBC category student, so I got some advantages over general category students. If you are also in Reserved Category, then please fill the choices carefully, even a low rank can give you a good branch. Some of my friends have low ranks, but they choose lower branches in good IIT's and now after one year they changed their branch, because of good grades in 1st year. Admission in IIT'S is through Josaa Counselling, so it is very smooth. Just don't do any silly mistake, by Filling choices in random order, take help from your teachers. Do not fix your seat till you want that particular seat or college. Always give preference to college, as in old IIT'S, the system is very well-developed, and their network is also very huge. The environment is very good

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I like mathematics, and am interested in software engineering, so I choose this course. The faculty and student ratio is very good in our college, for every 10 students, there is a professor. Every Faculty Member or Professor are well qualified, all are PhD holders, with very good and deep knowledge in their subject. They will explain to you very well in classrooms, other than that, if you still have doubts, you can ask Teaching assistants ( TA's). There are weekly quizzes and assignments so that you should be regular in your studies. Midsem and endsem exams are also conducted. Some courses are easy and easy to score but some are hard in which scoring is not easy. Sometimes it depends on the professor also.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Internships give you vast experience in this corporate world. Summer Internship from the college helps students in this. Many companies offer roles such as SDE, Data analyst. The top companies are Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Adobe and Google. Many small companies also come to the campus, and doing Internships in these companies also helps us to understand the problems at the root level. Your grades, CGPA should be greater than 8 for a good internship. Take part in extracurricular activities, and make innovative projects.

Placement Experience

4

In the last of 2nd year or 3rd year, we get a chance to do an Internship which not only helps us in final Placements but also enhances our Experience in this field. This year 100% of the students got Placed within the campus. The average package was 18 LPA, there were many students with 40-45 LPA package, with a highest of 85 LPA package, a student grabbed an international job. There we so many companies, Microsoft was the top recruiter, some more are, Google, Samsung, Goldman Sacs, Adobe, Amazon, Flipkart. You can sit in placements, or go for research, higher studies, or studies abroad, for which many Colleges come to your college, and will give many scholarships.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarships based on your family income. If it's is below 1 lac./yr, then 100% scholarship is given. If between 1-5 lac/yr, then only 1/3rd fees have to be paid. Other than this, if you perform good in academics, then also around 66,500 + 7,000 is given to students. Many companies also come to the college to provide scholarships to students good in any particular field. There are clubs like Placement Cell, which helps students in Internships and Placements. Placement is very good in the college.

Campus Life

4.5

Annual Fests are, Zeitgeist and Advitya, conducted in April and October. These are very great, with a lot of activities and college participation. We enjoy ourselves a lot in these 4-5 days. The library is air conditioned and is 24 hr open, with almost all books you need related to studies, fiction. As this is a new IIT, classrooms are very large with full air conditioned. There are clubs for all types of activities, which are run by the students only, such as: Coding, Software, MUN, Aeromodelling, Robotics, Automotive, CIM. For sports also, there are many clubs, such as Cricket, Basketball, Dance, Cooking, Athletics, Fine arts, Oratory, Alankar, Football, Hockey. We have a large cricket, and football ground. Basketball, badminton, Long tennis, all grounds are there. The only swimming pool is not there on the campus, but you can go outside for that.

Hostel Facilities

5

If you will see the hostels, then you can't imagine, they are like hotels. A new building, with cleaned rooms. 2 students are given a room. The washroom is cleaned regularly. A washing machine is available in every wing. In IIT it is mandatory to live in a hostel, so you cannot rent a room outside, to live with your friends or family. The menu is good. Quality is also good. 2-3 types of breakfast is available, so you can eat what you like. If you don't like anything, or the quality is not good then you can complain.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
