Entrance Preview

I took the kerala entrance exam for engineering. And once the scores were out i knew i could get into some good college and MEC is the name that popped first into my head. Biomedical Engineering is one of the most sought out jobs in US and also taking my liking for biology and technology both into consideration I knew this was the right course. And of most the right college to opt for.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

It was a multi disciplinary course. With electronics and biomedical having equal importance. The course lit light on various domains unknown to me like, image detection and processing. Complex biological functions, circuits that could help build prosthetics etc.

Internships Opportunities

College does not provide internships as such. But yes the placement cell does help all students get internships in various organisations. Some of the programs were paid. Some were just educational, bit every one of them was beneficial to the student. Some companies that offered internships were Philips, Bosch, NPOL, etc.

Placement Experience

5

MEC is known for the level of placement opportunities it provides to the student. Almost more than 90% of the students get placed in huge conglomerates. The companies that came to the campus included big names like Google, yahoo, microsoft, facebook, flipkart, amazon, Nvidia, Bosch, Oracle, TCS etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very subsidised. The students getting admitted on merit basis are required to pay very less and are also offered various scholarships. The management quota is also not that costly. The management fee for biomedical engineering was around 60k back then per year. And for merit quota it was around 20k for a year.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are few scholarship programs that the college hosts. I am not particularly the right person to talk about it. But i do know there are a lot of students benefiting from it.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is very cool there in MEC. We have about the right proportion of gender diversity in the campus. College hosts a lot of talk shows including technical, social and managerial areas. All of this are conducted keeping in mind the students well being and growth. The dignitaries invited for these talks were the best in the field.

Alumni/Alumna

MEC has one of the biggest and strongest alumni network. It is also one of the most active alumni groups. We host alumni merits every year and people starting from 1993 batch pass outs come for it. The last one was held this year in banglore on dec 17th. The main agenda for all of this is to network and get to know the new and old faces from the same college.

Exam Structure

Exams were timely. One university exam per 6 months. And the labs were spaced out too. The schedule was never hectic but yes it was not completely eased out too. It kept the students on their feet. The exams were held by the Cochin university of science and technology.

Admission

I applied to the college admission form through the online portal by the government. The interview process was smooth and clean. The results came out within a week and there i was selected in the college i sought out the most. The process was smooth and straightforward. There were seniors roaming around all throughout the college helping us getting the whole idea of how everything works.

Faculty

5

Almost all the professors were atleast a M.tech graduate. And many of them were doctors. The head of the department was. PhD holder Mrs Jessy. They always had a wonderful insight about the subjects and all the topics. We have good labs were everything theoretical became practical.

Placement Experience:

Upon reaching s7 students are invited for campus placement but they have to pass different criteria to become eligible for attending the interview, a minimum cgpa of 7.5 and academic skills a these are the basic requirements and an aptitude test will be given and in further selection these criteria are looked. I plan on pursuing a job after completing by btech. More than half the students in a batch are getting placed usually.
