Remarks

Taking admission in Chandigarh is very easy. There are two ways through which students can take admission- first is the direct admission and the second is the admission through CUCET exam. I will first tell about the first option. In direct admission you don't have worry about your 12th standard marks, whatever you have scored in your 12th doesn't matter. You can easily avail the seats irrespective of the previous marks and take admission in any engineering discipline. So this is the easiest way. Now talking about the second option, i.e. CUCET exam. CUCET stands for Chandigarh University common entrance test. This exam can be filled by any student and the students who score good marks in the test gets scholarship as well. The university provides a number of scholarships in various disciplines not only through CUCET but also on the basis of marks scored in 12th as well. Students can get up to 100% scholarship.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

I am from the mechanical engineering department. In my batch, there is around 300 students. The student-to-teacher is quite good but the teachers are not well qualified. Most of the teachers don't have good knowledge of the subject which they are teaching and it seems like it's a burden for them. Most of the teachers have done just graduation and they don't have much teaching experience. The majority number of teachers are not even proficient in English so that makes it difficult to understand the terms while teaching and learning. Mostly the international students face many difficulty due to this. Teaching method is decent but not up to the mark. Teaching is done on blackboard and we so have projectors in every class. Talking about the exams, we have two mid semester exams and end semester exam which the final exam. The exams are conducted timely and the questions asked are not very tough. Any student can easily pass the exam by paying attention in the class.

Placement Experience

2

The campus placement in mechanical engineering is not good as 80% of the companies are coming for computer science and IT students. Although the mechanical students are also eligible for the software companies but they do not get selected. The number of companies for core mechanical is very less. And due to the joint placement program the other college students also sit for placements which increases the number of students per company and the competition also increases. Also there is no transparency in the placements, as the we don't get to know about the name of companies that have come in the previous semester and also the record of the number of students getting the job is not disclosed by the department.

Fees and Financial Aid

The best thing about Chandigarh University is the fee structure. If we compare CU with any other private university in India, CU's fees structure is very much less. There is no fees hike policy. The fees which you pay in your first year of engineering, the same fees will be applied to your last year of engineering. Chandigarh University provides a large number of scholarships. Be it on the basis of 12 th marks, sports, minority, defence scholarship or girls scholarship. They also provide financial assistance and help the students in education loans. Talking about the placements, in CU we have a joint placement program which means that along with Chandigarh University, various other colleges that are affiliated to CU also take part in the placements. This makes the whole placement process tough. Majority of the companies are coming for only Computer science and IT students. But for mechanical and civil the number of core company is very less.

Campus Life

4

Life at Chandigarh University is awesome. We have an annual tech fest which is conducted in February. We have a central library where all the books are available. University also has various sports and extracurricular activities. Inside the campus, students cannot get bored as life is very happening here.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

In the hostel room, each student gets his own bed, study table, chair, and an almirah. Hostel food is of good quality and for each day we have a different menu. If we have any difficulty in the hostel we can always contact the hostel care helpline and the issue gets resolved by the next day. We also get 24*7 medical facilities.

Other Applied Colleges

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
