Remarks

Hi, I am Swastik Sharma, a freshman at Chandigarh University and my course is BE-CSE(without specialisation). So, the eligibility of my course is 10+2 Non-medical. Even though, one can apply for university offline, i.e. coming to campus and registering for themselves or one can also apply through Chandigarh University's official website. The application fees of Chandigarh University were 1000Rs. while the dates are very flexible according to the student because we have seen admissions after 2-3 months of orientation day (there can be some fine for late applying students ). But such students are put together into class and their syllabus is covered a bit quicker than others because teachers don't have a full time semesters with them. While applying online, you also get a personal mentor who assists you through the whole process(which is very helpful). Moreover, students also get reservation benefits like deductions in fees or scholarships etc. Personally, the admission process can't be better.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

My course is BE-CSE,i.e. Bachelors in Engineering in Computer Science. My personal reason for choosing this course was the fascination that I've always had with computers and software. I have liked to make software since 11th standard and it was a big motivating factor for me to apply for this course. There is 1 teacher for 70 students in class, while the qualification of some teachers is extremely exceptional while some of the teachers are teaching a lot of subjects, from maths to disruptive technologies. But teachers of Computer programming subjects are pretty good. In one complete semester, there are 2 mid-term theory exams and 1 practical mid-term exam, also, there is the final End semester exam(both theory and practical). Midterm theory exams are pretty easy to pass if one has just even listened to the teachers properly but will need to study a bit if he needs to score well. For end semester exams(theory and practical) one needs to put genuine efforts into his/her studies.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

Hundreds of companies come to CU to give internships to CUians. Usually, roles are like SDE intern, SWE intern, etc depending on your skills and personality. Most internships don't give stipends but if you are good enough, maybe you can grab one such opportunity. Companies like Samsung, etc come for internships here. One needs to make some projects to get into these companies as an intern.

Placement Experience

2.5

Placements of CU are also good. If a student does well while he is in college, he will be easily selected by top MNCs. Students' campus placements generally occur in their 3rd year. Famous companies like Amazon, Wipro, Microsoft etc come to CU for placements and almost all the students get placed at CU. Last year, the highest package was 51 lakhs INR while the average was 5 LPA. Almost 100 per cent of students gets placed in CU, some get in service-based companies while some are in private based companies. I personally want to sit for placements too.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure of Chandigarh University is pretty good. It is 90,000 INR per semester (without any scholarship). The fee hike from previous year is around 10k per semester. There are ample number of scholarships available for students. From CUCAT to many other ones. I myself got scholarship of 50% in my tution fees. Also, one can get financial assistance easily from university too. About job on the campus, there are less of them but one can get other opportunities like working with DSW etc which can make your resume better.

Campus Life

4.5

Life at the campus is as fun as it could get! Our annual fest is pretty famous, it is known as the CU fest. It is usually conducted in March month. There are several tech fests too that keep happening in the university(so many you can't even keep track of them). There is one library in every block and the central library in the centre of the university. There are thousands of books in these libraries and several tens of journals. The classrooms are pretty cool too at CU. There are ACs for summers and they stay quite warm in December too. The teacher is audible to every student because of the efficient architecture. The sports infrastructure of the university is great! Universities themselves sponsor athletes if they are doing good in their field. There is complete another side of campus dedicated to sports. There are way more clubs one can count on in this university. From debating club to dancing club, they all are doing awesome in their field. CUs students are also maintaining websites like perogies etc.

Hostel Facilities

2

CU hostels are provided with many facilities like LAN, tube light, Bed, windows etc. The hostels are also pretty good. There is a lot of space for students to hang out. It is commonplace for all the students to stay. Students also watch cricket matches together here. The meal quality of hostels is okay-ish. It is sometimes good and sometimes bad but by the standards of a hostel, it is great. There is a different menu for different months, seasons etc. Registration for the hostel can be done by the official website of uims. Its cost is 90kINR per year. There are flats, and PGs available near the university.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
