Remarks

Anyone with 70%+ marks can apply for the CUCET exam via the University website. Application forms, fees, and scholarship details can be found on the university website, www.cuchd.in The application process is pretty easy and the call center people will guide you through it. Admission is open as of November 13, 2022.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I've always been interested in CSE and CU has a good curriculum and placement for this course. Their labs are well-equipped and teachers are well-versed with the syllabus. There is an approximate 1:70 teacher: student ratio in each class. The teachers for the first year are usually educated up to a Master's degree. Some of them are CU alumni themselves. They are patient, cooperative, and understanding, and constantly help the students not only in their subject but other subjects as well. Semester 1 exams are in December (January for 1st-year students) and Semester 2 is in July. There are two compulsory MSTs (Mid Semester Exams) for internal marks. Exams have mid-level difficulty if the student has put any effort into studying.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

Internships are available from the first year itself and it depends on the student's marks and willingness. Most placements are without stipend and those with stipends are rare. I have not yet applied for internship.

Placement Experience

2.5

Campus Placements start in the 6th Semester. The University Website states over 900 companies that offer placements for different courses. B.E. CSE students have approximately 200 companies to choose from. The average package offered is around 5LPA and Highest is around 50 LPA. The highest-ever placement was in 2021, of 1.7 Crore. 90% of CSE students get placements. I am not yet in my 6th semester so I am not eligible for placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fees for B.E. Computer Science and Engineering (General) is 1,06,000 per semester. Hostel fees are 1,00,000 per year for a 4 seater room. The total study cost comes up to around 15 lakh for 4 years, including hostel, extracurricular activities, etc. I got a 20% scholarship on the Tuition fees so mine comes to around 86,000 per semester.

Campus Life

4.5

There are many fests at CU, organized every few months. Tech fests are organized by the Departments every few days and lots of Hackathons are available for participation as well. The library usually has all the course books, but only as Reference copies. The copies that can be issued are few. But teachers help us find free PDF versions of the books and also share class PPTs. There is an entire sports and extracurricular complex on campus. Squash, Table Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football Skateboarding, Skating, etc. are common among students. We also have IEEE on our campus and there are sports, literature, dance, music, and other clubs, run by the students and DSW (Department of Students' Welfare).

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel room is pretty basic. It is a 4 seater room with separate single beds, chairs and wardrobes, and 2 shared tables. Most hostels have common washrooms on each floor, but a few have private washrooms attached to the room. The hostel has 7 floors and there is no lift yet, but work to install it is ongoing. There are maids on each floor who clean the room and washrooms daily. All CU hostels' food is made together in a kitchen near the boy's hostel, so the taste is always the same. Meals are clean and healthy, and not too oily. It is better than most other hostels' food. Don't pay attention to the rumors of rats in the food, that was from another college in Chandigarh itself but not CU. Hostel registration is done via the University Login website once admission is confirmed. The annual hostel fee is 1,00,000 and needs to be paid at once, at the beginning of the session.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
