Remarks

The college management is basically one arrogant brahmin family most of them who haven't left their haughty ways. So it's hard to discuss things over with them especially if you want to quit in which case you have to pay the remainder of the college fees. In fact there are two research buildings, the bulk of the instruments for research in biotech, Physics and chemistry. Apart from that the rest of the departments are average except for the computer science department which is well below the required standard.

Entrance Preview

JEE is required but not mandatory if you have good board marks. The University allows admission under two different streams. One is the jee+board where 60 percentage of board and 40 percentage of JEE are considered other only with board marks.

Internships Opportunities

The college does provide internships but it is hugely the work of the student to figure things out and approach the University. Also the internships provided are very less. Not a lot of people get it.

Placement Experience

1

Now Sastra is tied up with Tata consultancy services in some way. Due to this reason, TCS bulk places every one. This year 730 people got placed into TCS. Now the problem with this of course is that the salary range is very low and narrow. Other companies take about 2-5 students each.

College Events

1.5

We have three major events. Kuruksastra the cultural events. Colosseum the sports event and Daksh the technical event. These are national level events. Apart from these each department hosts events for the University students which can be both academic or fun based.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The most valuable point of the college is the fee structure which is very reasonable. The tuition fee is around 55k to 58k depending on which year you are as the fee increases at around 5% every year. Apart from that, fees like sports fee, exam fees around a thousand each are levied once a year.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarships for all meritorious students. Apart from that, the hostel residents can avail the refund of the mess fee with an attendance above 90% and sgp of 8

Campus Life

1

The gender ratio is abysmal with boys far more overweighing the girls. We have a lot of different cultural society catering to the needs of different lingual groups. Apart from that, there is no coding clubs. There is a dance team though. Singing and instruments are restricted to south classical only. Sastra is a college with its own merits and demerits. The merits include good scholarships for the meritorious students and reasonable fee structure. But the best of the college is in its biotech department which is one of the best in the country.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel and related services are very good. However there is a lot of short power outages throughout the day. The mess food is very bad. The rice is boiler made. So it is very rough. Another good thing is that free high speed internet is provided using WiFi for hostel students

Alumni/Alumna

Now as first years we are encouraged not to socialize with the seniors so that causes of ragging are avoided. So it grows like that and now there is a huge disconnect between students of different years.

Exam Structure

There are three CIAs. So we have one every month making it very hectic and difficult to study. The staff barely finishes the syllabus when after two days we have our exam. This is very exasperating. Semester examination and semester lab practical exams have adequate leave in between.

Admission

First we have to apply online when the portal opens. Then fill in the details and pay the fee. Then you have to print it out. Then you have to wait until the board marks and the jee marks come out. Then print them out and enclose them and the application in an envelope and send the package to Thanjavur. After that you have to keep visiting the site for updates on the release of the merit list. Based on the merit list, you will be called for counselling.

Faculty

2

The staff of the biotechnology department are very qualified, and interactive. My friend has had a very good experience with the teachers. The staff of electrical engineering department on the other hand are qualified but very rigid. Getting marks from them is very hard. Nevertheless if the student is willing to work with such strict persona, he will get a lot of knowledge from them. The staff of mechanical engineering department and civil engineering department are very relaxing and average. They are good as people. But the worst department is the cs department where the staff is heavily outdated. They are not willing to change and update with the times

The curriculum is relevant and provides a good balance of theoretical knowledge and practical learning. It prepares students for real-world applications, but more industry projects, practical sessions, and updated teaching methods would help. Exams are generally well-spaced and moderately difficult.

Placements are generally decent, with students becoming eligible from the final year. Several companies visit for recruitment, offering roles in technical and non-technical fields. Packages vary by company, and placement opportunities depend on skills and performance. Many students secure jobs, while others pursue higher studies or competitive exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because it covers important subjects related to computer science, programming, databases, networking, and emerging technologies. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical subjects influenced my decision to choose this course. The curriculum provides a good foundation in technical concepts and programming. However, more practical projects, industry-based training, internships, and real-world applications would help students become better prepared for careers and further studies.
