Remarks

I love my college since it's mine but I would have loved to see things get right as there are the best minds of the state in my college and if these minds get the right help from the college then it can become the best medical college of the country.

Entrance Preview

When I joined admission was through WBJEEM but now it's only NEET-UG. I scored around 180 out of 250 and my rank was 153. I got in easily with a General category.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

Course structure is good but teaching is not upto mark. MCK being the best Medical College in the state should have been provided with the best faculties but WBUHS distributes good faculties equally in all the colleges and so very few subjects have faculties who teach well .

Internships Opportunities

Yes internship is provided. Stipend is around ?23000 but experience is horrible as there is a lot of work and the students don't get time to prepare for NEET-PG.

Placement Experience

2.5

No placement opportunity. You can, however, become a house staff in any department depending upon your overall performance in college academics. The question of placement only arises when other companies visit your college but nothing as such happens over here and I am sure this would not be happening in any other Medical College as well. There are however around 84 housestaffship seats in college so only the best 84 out of 250 get a chance to do it and the rest either are qualified for post graduation or do housestaffship elsewhere.

College Events

3.5

There are activities throughout the year in the college. Starting from cultural fests to academic fests to sports events, everything is celebrated in the college by the Medical College Students Union. The name of the cultural fest is Rhapsody and it is the largest Medical College fest of Eastern India. Celebrities like Kk, Kanika Kapoor, Aditya Narayan and Papon have performed in the fest. Around more than 60 events are part of Rhapsody making the college a dynamic arena for continuous 5 days. Sports fest is known as Arthlagia and other events like Writing Competition, photography exhibition, saraswati puja are other events celebrated in college.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship is offered by the college. But some students get schlorship from West Bengal Government because of their class 12 performance.

Campus Life

2.5

Campus life is okay. There is a General Common Room, Union Room, Ladies Common Room, Cybermen and a Library for the students to use but unfortunately, there is no playground in the college. In the current first year, there are 95 girls out of 250 students. Student diversity is present as 15% of students are from All India quota. Many students from the village and hilly area are also there but the majority of the students are from the Urban metropolitan area. The MCSU is the student's body which manages major of the student activities. Last year elections were not held and before that, the student's body was under the MCTMCP.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facilities are poor. For boys there are 4 hostels, Main boys hostel being the biggest of them. Facilities in the main boy's hostel, BC Roy hostel, and Norman Bethune hostel are still bearable but Giri Babu hostel is in the dilapidated condition. Generally, boys who want a hostel get it. But for girls, there is only one hostel named the Swarnamoyee girls hostel in which not all girls get accommodation. So some girls have to take PG's near the college which take around ?7000-?10000 per month. Just like other colleges Mess food is not good.

Alumni/Alumna

There exists a MCESA( Medical College ex students association) which is well connected with the students and helps the students in various activities.

Exam Structure

Exam structure is as such. There will be a total of 9 semesters in your 4.5 years of college and 4 Prof. Exams. Semesters are internal examinations and so rarely do students study hard for them. But prof. Exams are external and one has to take the examination at a different center other than your college.

Admission

Once you get the Rank Card via the official website on which your rank appears they provide the link through which you can find the WBUHS page. The entire procedure now takes place on WBUHS website. You need to provide your Rank Card, Class 12 marksheet, Migration certificate, some proformas need to be filled up which will be provided by the page itself. After filling all these they will call you in any Medical College for verification of documents. Once the verification is complete, you will be notified about the college in which you are supposed to visit for the admission. In MCK, you have to visit the student section which helps you complete all the formalities. Many senior students also help you to get the entire process done quickly.

Faculty

2.5

Faculties are really qualified but only 25% of the faculties are interested in teaching as they are already burdened with the enormous patient number. Most of the faculties use Bengali and English mixed as a means of communication and so the students who are from different states find it difficult to comprehend which is reflected in their results. For some faculties extra effort has to be taken by the class representatives as they won't come in class to take the lecture unless he has been invited by the CRs. In some departments like Biochemistry, Microbiology and Community Medicine the faculties are so bored that they find it amusing to annoy students especially during Viva.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
