Course Curriculum Overview

4

First of all, it is a core branch as we don't have ece in our institution. Core branch offers you choices while appearing for placement drives. Also the avg package of my branch is around 23 lpa which is also very influential. The course has several aspects from which one can relate to real world. The labs and practical all are very interesting. The method of teaching also differs from what we had studied to get here. Not much improvement needed. The course is little bit difficult as it includes both the electronic and electrical Part. Here we are also taught the communication and power electronics parts that makes this course bulkier than other. Overall it's a good experience. As I have mentioned earlier, they propose 3-4 subjective pen paper examination in a single semester of 4 months, so the frequency of examination is managed accordingly. The difficultly level again varies from proff to proff. Overall it's is not as easy as school's exams but also not tough as jee advanced:)

Internships Opportunities

3

Students can opt for research internships under proffs of same college or different college based on their choices or they can sit for internships drives. Iit ropar offers two internships opportunity to their students. One being the general credited internship that is done after 6th semester. Other being optional internship that is done after 4th semester. Companies offers many roles, most common being research one, with avg stipend of around 1 lakh for 2 or 3 moths based on their requirements. Students can opt for project interns as well for optional one; i.e.; after 4th semester. They can take a project under any proff and work under them for like 2 months and get valuable experience. It can be mentioned in the resume which helps in the placement drives.

Placement Experience

4

Campus placement starts from 7th sem onwards. Students can appear for placement drives in the 7th semester. I don't have much idea of companies visiting. Some companies like Google, DeShawn, Jp Morgan, Nvidia, etc though visit for placements. Average package is around 16lpa with the highest being 65lpa this year until now. Around 80-90% of students appearing for placement drives got selected this year. No plans for now. Just getting a job is on the top of priority list. :)

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition fee is almost the same for all iits. They don't vary as such. For iit ropar, it is 100000 for one semester. As for hike in tuition fees, it didn't happened since I have joined. So I don't think there is regular hike in fees. Apart from tuition fees, there is hostel establishment fees and Mess charges. There is also one security deposit that is taken during admission. Including all these fees, the total goes upto 1.3 lakhs per semester. These includes the compulsory fees. Scholarships are given on the basis of academic performance or the financial status or on the basis of category and all. There are many private scholarships also that are provided. One individual can get only one scholarship though. Financial aids are also provided for lower income students. I have not taken any job roles or responsibilities. They don't provide stipend for responsibilities or any other employments. There are several opportunities though for interested students in this field.

Campus Life

3.5

We conduct 4 fests 1. Cultural Fest - ZEITGEIST (oct-nov) 2. Technical Fest - ADVITIYA (jan-feb) 3. Sports Fest - AAROHAN (march) 4. Gaming Fest - REVANCHE (jan) Apart from these, several activities keeps on going during the academic year. For books and journal, one can directly go to central library and avail the benefits or one can login into library iit ropar online and have virtual study. It is very much accessible and have good range of books and journals. We have been provided projectors and both white and green boards. Cameras, good lighting and comfortable chairs for sitting and writing during classes. Apart from annual fests, general competition(GC) is also organized b/w different year students, like inter year thing. They also have 4 vertices: Cultural, technical, sports and gaming. Other than this, several other competitions and events have been organized by different societies and clubs here at iit ropar. Totally depends on the students

Hostel Facilities

4.5

I have opted for a hostel so I have been given a double occupancy room with a bed, a table and chair, an Almirah, a fan, and two tubelights. The room is quite spacious and ventilated. Mess is just like an avg mess nothing more nothing less. Food quality is quite good though. The mess menu keeps on changing every month after taking subtle responses from students. Registration for hostels is done during academic registrations. It is quite affordable as hostel charges are only 3000 a month. I don't have much idea about PG or renting room around our campus. Rupnagar city I'd around 6km from our campus. One can a renting room or a PG there at a reasonable rate.

Admission

I have qualified jee advanced and opted for btech in Electrical Engineering at iit ropar, one of the prestigious Engineering institutions of India. For getting into iits, one have to get a rank under 20k in jee advanced at least. For my branch, least requirement in 15k using reservations and for non reservations, it is upto 6k. After completing the counseling session, if you get your seat in any institute, then you will get all the required form and Information via mail in 3-4 working days. Institutions will itself provide you a date and valuable insights which would help you getting hassle free admissions. I have Obtained AIR 10k and my category rank was 2209. I got admissions in my college by my category rank. As I have mentioned above, you can get electrical only upto AIR 7k. The frequency of exams depends upon on the course instructors, the proffs and tha academic section. In general, they propose 2 quizzes, one midsem and one endsem in single sem of 4 months.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
