Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The EE branch was overall good compared with other branches as most of the faculty members were qualified. Practical learning was mainly through the m/c labs, power system lab, BEEE lab, & many others which were divided in a proportionate manner weekly in the routine. Yes, the research work was done by the Ph.D. & M.tech students. We were also encouraged for developing innovative models. Elective subjects were available such as- NCES, HVDC transmission, Electrical m/c design, Extra high voltage Engg, Computer graphics, & many others.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, our 8th sem was fully training only but the college left it to the students to choose the company. We were not offered any stipend. The experience was overall good.

Placement Experience

1.5

Not at all good. Only a minor % (about 6-7 out of total strength of 60+13(through lateral entry for diploma holders)) of my branch students got placed throughout my whole deg session. Not many major companies visited but small local companies & from Delhi visited the campus such as LEAD telecom, Ripetech, GENPACT, others. Major company- INFOSYS, TCS. Also, many students got of my & other branches were placed in Off-campus plcements. The average package offered was in the range 2.4-3 lakh p.a.

College Events

4

ISTE's tech fest is organized every year in our college. Various events such as PPt presentation, Debate, Quiz, junkyard, G.D, & many other events were part of this tech fest. Also, ISTE organizes national level technical fests such as TECHNO-opus. JASHN was organized as part of the annual cultural fest. Conduct of these fests was smooth owing to various committees whose member were students headed by various teachers. The fests were really big & a footfall of about 2500 (approx) was observed. The organization of the fests was up to the mark. The college authorities contributed a major portion in college-level fest while on the depth level, the contribution was sought from the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a semi-govt college, I thought the fees would be on the lower side, but it was on the higher side. Sem wise details of fees- 1st sem-Rs 54,645 2nd sem-Rs 46,600 3rd sem- Rs 48,100 4th sem- Rs 47,875 5th sem- Rs 48,200 6th sem- Rs 47,150 7th sem- Rs 48,200 8th sem- Rs 41,600 (Rs 5000-hostel fee not charged because, in 8th sem, EE branch students were in training) The above fees that I paid for the session 2011-15, so present fee structure may vary.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, the college provided scholarship but only to students from backward class, SC, ST category from Punjab state only. No scholarship was awarded to students from outside Punjab. No, I didn't avail any. The college did not help in getting the loan.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Yes, I was residing in the hostel. There were two types of hostel-1.each room with 3 to 4 students capacity(Satluj & Ganga Bhawan)-for 1st & 2nd yr students 2. Each room with 2 students capacity ( Bhawan)- for 3rd & 4th yr students. Means all the 4 yrs we had to live in Shared rooms. Yes, there were PGs but they were fully functional in the later part of my course. The hostel fee was Rs5000 per sem (included in above sem wise fee structure). The quality of food was average. Mess bill was displayed monthly on the notice board of hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

Punjab limited interaction was there during our time. Later, the college did provide the platform for the student-alumni intern. No such contribution was made by any alumni.

Faculty

4

In my branch, most of the teachers during my course specific yrs i.e., from 2nd yr onwards were highly qualified barring a few who were junior teachers but still teaching during 2nd yr & onwards. Most of the teachers were interactive barring a few who only came for completion of course. Overall the standard of teaching was the level above average.

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
