Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is very well curated. Nirma University follows the same trimester as that of IIM, A. There are three terms per year with 3 quizzes, 2 assignments, 1 Mid-term exam and 1 end-term exam for every subject. One term is for 3 months and the whole year is for 10 months. This study pattern influenced my decision to be admitted into the college. This pattern helps to learn multi-tasking and time management which is very much required for the real corporate world. All the subjects have relevance for management aspects of a business which could be helpful in further academic pursuits. One area that could be improved is that there could be more practical assignments in which we get one-on-one experience working with corporate professionals to understand the practical application of theoretical knowledge. The frequency of exams is mid-term exam in 1.5 months of term and then again after 1.5 months end-term exam in a term. The difficulty level of the exam is fairly moderate.

Internships Opportunities

3

TATA AIG - Finance and Marketing intern 10,000 per month. JP Morgan Chase and Co. - Finance ingern 50,000 per month. ICICI Bank Finance intern 40,000 per month. Various business development, sales, marketing, financial analysis, trend analysis project are assigned in order to produce business development outcome for the company are provided to the college students.

Placement Experience

3

The college follows trimester pattern so from Fifth semester or 5th term student becomes eligible for placements. Various companies like TATA AIG, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Morgan Stanley, Wipro, Deloitte, Arscesium, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Adani Wilmar comes to campus for placements. Each company makes different number of offers based on their requirement, usually the average offer is made to 6 students. Highest package is offered to a Morgan Stanley Finance profile student for 30LPA and average is 12LPA for finance profile student. Till now college has 100% placement record. My plans after getting a degree is to explore the corporate world and learn more and more knowledge in the field of finance.

Fees and Financial Aid

The program of Nirma University requires a financial commitment. Factoring in tuition fees (?5,40,000 annually) which is paid in instalments, hostel (?96,000/year) for girls hostel, laundry and mess fees (?55,000/year), and a one-time college deposit for college activated (?1,00,000), the yearly cost comes to ?7,91,000. While there's no on-campus employment with a stipend to offset there are 27 clubs and committes which students can join to enhance their personal development. On a brighter note, there is a scholarship of ?10,000 up for grabs for the top 30 students in the first term.

Campus Life

4.5

Institute of Management has a library has a huge range of books, magazines, journals, research papers, novels etc which can be accessed through both online and offline channels, and the classrooms are comfy with smart projectors and huge blackboards. There are tons of clubs for every interest, from debaters to dancers, and the annual cultural PR 10 festival. The 27 clubs and committees organize various extra-curricular and sports activities and events throughout the year which helps to cope with hectic schedules. All these student-run clubs and activities help in relaxing after a tiring day and also being a part of the clubs helps a student to learn time management, communication and team management skills which have a huge impact on an MBA student's life.

Hostel Facilities

5

I stay in girls hostel where i have got a triple sharing A/C room. The room is fully worth price. To register yourself for hostel accomodation, the procedure was included in admission process because the MBA program at Nirma university is complusoraliy residential for all the students. The room is worth the price. Each roomate gets a separate bed, study desk, pin board, two-door cupboard and a side table near bed. There is balcony and attached washroom facility in the room which makes it more comfortable to stay in. The meal at mess is decent. The menu is shared for the whole week in advance via mail and the taste is good, especially breakfast. In total the hostel room and meal both are completely affordable and provide best value for money.

Admission

To enter into Nirma University's Institute of Management MBA(Full-time) programme, one has to first take the CAT exam, the cutoff for the year I took admission was 80 %tile. I cleared the cutoff by a good margin, hence I applied for the university through its website. After some time I got an email regarding the I had been shortlisted for PI and TDP (Theme Development Presentation) through online mode. The date, time and link for the interview were mentioned in the mail. On the day of the interview, two professors were there, they first gave me a topic for TDP and 1 minute to think about it. TDP is like an extempore, you spoke on the topic given for 1.5 minutes. After that, they started with PI which included basic current affairs and general knowledge questions. The interview was for 15 minutes. After some of the interviews I, got an email that I had been selected. The aspect of admission that could be changed is that TDP could be changed to GD which would enhance the communication.

Interview Experience

5

There was no GD or written test for the admission process however there was TDP which means Theme Development Process which is like an extempore. A topic is given by the interview panel with 1 minute to think about it and then 90 seconds to speak about it. After this PI begins. For both processes reading various articles, daily news and videos on current affairs helped me with the process. The criteria for shortlisting were 10th, 12th marks and CAT percentile for the TDP/PI process and final admission to the course was based on all the marks along with TDP/PI process.

Placements are very nice, placements are provided once the student completes the final master year I.e. 5th year. After that, the student becomes eligible for placement. Many companies like Tata, Data consulting, reliance, etc. Have visited and got the best of their employees at this place. Most of the time 100% placement is offered.

Remarks:

Information asymmetry can be easily observed between PGDM (DS) and BE students. Many times, important information is asymmetrically distributed in BE and DS students. Many of us were called again and again to join Development Studies track. It also happened that after joining DS course, many students opted to take up BE again. If you are inclined towards social work, join DS, otherwise don’t, you will suffer.
