Remarks

I miss my college days. The New College has helped in shaping me as a better human being. It has provided me with the right atmosphere not only to study but also to develop my talents. The encouragement and support provided by the Students, Staff and management have helped me to become what I am today.

Entrance Preview

I wanted to do graduate in Arabic, which is a foreign language. The New College has courses in Arabic from Undergraduate to PhD. level. The faculty in the Arabic department of this college are highly qualified and experienced. The Arabic department library here has the best collection of books. Besides this, there is an Arabic language lab with facilities that make learning an enjoyable exercise.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum has been updated periodically to make students more employable. Equipping students with Spoken Arabic, Computer skills and translation skills have been the basis for designing this curriculum. Accountancy as an elective paper at the UG level has added more to this list.

Internships Opportunities

No. Our college doesn't provide an internship. However, students in their final year of study are provided opportunities to work on a part-time basis with one of the several organizations that approach the Arabic department for specific tasks.

Placement Experience

3.5

There is a Placement officer who looks into Campus interviews and placement of students. Other than this, the faculty of the department who are approached by organisations that they know personally also provide ample job opportunities to students. If a student is skilled, he is sure to find placement.

College Events

5

The Arabic department conducts a monthly meeting which is called Nadwa. A topic is given and students are encouraged to present their views in Arabic. This is to enhance their Arabic presentation skills. Resource persons are invited to the department for special lectures in Arabic. Annual Seminars and Workshops also develop the Arabic language skills of the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I found the fee structure to be very very reasonable. For students from very poor families, a lot of scholarships were also on offer. Besides this Philanthropists also come to the rescue of students who find paying fees a burden. At short notice even the Faculty chip in money to help the students.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not avail of any loan during the course of my study at The New College. As for Scholarship, the government provides Backward class Scholarship. For meritorious students who get University rank, which I did, The entire fees paid for the course is refunded.

Campus Life

3.5

As the college is in a Central location, the life inside and outside the campus was excellent. It is a boy's college which provided opportunities for gentlemen to develop themselves. A vast ground was a venue for football and Cricket matches. Basketball and Volleyball could also be played in the hostel. The annual day at the college used to be a big draw.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel accommodation is one of the best. Separate cots and beds are provided. Toilets are ample and are always kept clean. There is no shortage of water as well. Drinking water is clean. Food in The New College hostel is tasty and healthy. The menu is one of the best.

Alumni/Alumna

A majority among the faculty in most of the institutions teaching Arabic in the state are from this esteemed institution. Besides this, the alumni of the Arabic department of The New College can be found throughout the world. The Seniors are of much help to the juniors as they guide them in studies and carrier.

Exam Structure

Semester exams at the end of every semester are supplemented by two Centralised tests per semester. The total marks for a Semester examination in a paper are 75 marks. Of the remaining 25 marks, the average marks scored in the centralised tests and marks scored in assignment or Quiz is taken.

Admission

As I had applied for a foreign language program, admission was quite easy as there were few competitors who were shortlisted. There was a written exam followed by an interview before admission. It was a smooth process as the Arabic department staff guide us at every step.

Faculty

4.5

Excellent, friendly and knowledgeable faculty who are student-centric is a boon to the Arabic department of The New College. I have found the faculty to be helpful in every possible way. Besides this, the humility and sincerity of this faculty encourage the students to approach them freely at all times.

Remarks:

The college has good in the language before some few years back. And still now it’s somhow good in relevance in the studies but sometimes much more pressure and extra works that was not much necessary in the departmental curriculum. One bad things is the college didn’t listen to the students voice and opinions and students were considered as money. Much more pressure and once president said is finalised and no options. There is many stories within the students that cannot reveals but most of all they wait for the graduation.
