Course Curriculum Overview

4

When you carefully look at the curriculum you will find that everything was interconnected all along. The things you learn in earlier semesters always come in handy in the following semesters. It was as if somebody carefully planned it, weaving every piece of literature and scripture they could find. From my side I was very satisfied with the curriculum. There will be times when you will be forced to go against your ideologies to write an answer but from what I have observed, the teachers in this specific course are very accomodating to independent thoughts and opinions. 8/10

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee is very low compared to other institutions around. In each semester the admission fees and the exam registration fee could come up to around a total of 5000 with honours and a little less with non honours. There are also great opportunities for scholarships where even some of my batchmates got back even more than they invested in their studies going up to around more than 1.4 lacs. That was ofcourse a national program but there are also huge dicounts and reliefs for students that come from a poor financial background. Overall studying here is very affordable. With the talented and resourceful faculty, I would say it is worth your money.

Campus Life

3

There were so many things happening on campus all year round. From college weeks to sports meets and other regular interactive programs and competitions, the days spent in college were hella hectic. But it was fun to do group activities with friends and our teachers. The library is very rich with books, journal, magazines, and whatnot. It even has reading cubicles and is fully air conditioned. It was a pleasant experience to study in there in the summer heat. But I just wish they allowed us to use our headphones in the library as some students feel distracted without any sort of stimulating sounds playing in the background. There is also a student union which helps keep the students safe from unfair decisions made by the college authority but I will go out on a tooth and say that in recent times it has become corrupt with power hungry sadists.

Admission

After our form fillups (whoch we have to do online for free) for the course, we had an entrance exam. If I remember correctly I think the cutoff was around 55% or so and each department had their own specific set of rules for admission. In the entrance exam for my course around 70% of the students were rejected and only 21 of them were selected. We were given different sets of question papers where we were tested based on our analytical skills and comprehension.

Faculty

4.5

When it comes to Higher Secondary level classes, there is certainly a huge gap between the student to faculty ratio. When I first started my higher secondary classes there, if I sat on the back side of the class I could not even hear the teacher as they would have to stand across the hall to teach. But now this has been fixed in the big classroom halls with the installation of mics and smart boards so that is a good thing I guess. In terms of mentorship, I always found that our teachers were engaging enough and actually listened to our concerns rather then brush them off. They would carefully listen (in the english dept. At least) and also give us good guidance so that was a pretty solid experience. The teachers and the other faculty were also very approachable and we could easily go to them with our connundrums as they would not shoo us away and actually try to help rather than feign ignorance.

Other Applied Colleges

Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi College - [DHSK] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] (English)

Kind of far from home and I had financial problems to stay at a hostel or pg.

I choose English literature because I want to study literature, wants to study more about people. In our department there are very few students, 60% are girls and 40% are boys. We had four teachers in our department, namely, DR. PUBALI BORA KASHYAP (Qualification: M.A, Ph.D., UGC- NET), PREM PRASAD SHARMA (Qualification: M.A, M.PHIL), Gitima Deka (Qualification: M.A., M.PHIL), Raju Pegu (Qualification: M.A, M.PHIL). The teachers take tests continuously.
