Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University Firozpur, B.Tech {Hons.}, Mechanical Engineering

Remarks

From my point of view this college is good opportunity for the students. They have good faculty, good labs. Although the hoatel facilty is not so good but they don't charge amount for that. So only for 4000/- you are getting hostel for 6 months.

Entrance Preview

Because this is a government institute established by Punjab government. And it is the premier institute in this region. Since I wanted a government college. And the major government colleges of Punjab are Giani Zail Singh, Bathinda... Beant College of Gurdaspur and the third one is Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Ferozepur. I chose Shaheed Bhagat Singh College because I was selected here for fee waiver scheme.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum they offer is super. They have good laboratories with equipments. Although the engineering physics lab is not so well equipped. But other labs are good. I opted for Mechanical Engineering. So I have the knowledge of Mechanical labs only.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college doesn't provide any kind of internship. If you want to go for internship then you to do it on your own.

Placement Experience

3.5

This college is not so good in placements. There was a time when it was good in placements but not now. Diploma wing of this college has good placement. But engineering wing is not so good. If you are thinking about placement then this is a very bad college.

College Events

4.5

In this college there are different different socities of different branches. Each society has its own Events. For example Mechanical Branch has SFME And its major event is MechVibes. But college has annual cultural fest Jashan which is celebrated once in a year. And ISTE is Technical Fest which celebrated once in a year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Well the tution fee in the colleges remain same as decided by the university. But other charges are not upto mark. I am not satisfied with the fee structure.Because it is government institute. So I think that it should not not charge the 20-25 thousand per semester after having the 30 thousand tution fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. If you are a good student and have percentage more than 70 in every semester only than you can apply for SAF ( Student Aid Fund). You will get amount of 10 thousand for that.

Campus Life

4

Actually this college is good place if you are good at cultural activities and sports. Here you will get a very good opportunity to represent yourself to imbibe your leadership quality. A number of events are organised where you can show your talent.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are not according to expectation. they have made new hostel 'Yamuna Bhawan'. That one is good but the rest hostels are old and are in very disastrous condition. I dont like the food of mess. They don't have good cook. And they charge more money in the name of service charge.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes, the college has a great alumni. All of them are at good position in big companies. On of our alumni is an IAS.

Exam Structure

There are three MST ( Mid Semester Tests) in one semester. Score of best two MSTs are counted and will be added to your academics in the final semester. In each semester you will have three MST. MST plays a major role in increasing your percentage. It has the weitage of 40% and rest 60% is of your semester exam.

Admission

During my time the procedure was like. 1) Appear for the JEE exam 2) Enrol for PTU counselling 3) Pay the online fee 4) Select your preference as Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur in your desired branch. 5) If you are eligible for fee waiver scheme then apply for that 6) On shortlisting go to college with all your documents and pay fees at fee counter.

Faculty

4

No doubt, this college has a very good senior faculty. But only problem is there, during 1st and 2nd year non of the senior faculty will teach you. They have a very good senior staff. But most of the senior faculties are engaged in the other works of college.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
