The Highlights of Government College for Women , Thiruvananthapuram

I was always been interested in business and finance and that made me choose the course Mcom Finance which covered all the aspects in economy, business and finance. The case studies, the calculations, critical thinking questions, everything prepares us for the real world scenario. The exams were scheduled early and noticed and all the important portions are being taught and revised along with internal exams to check our knowledge about the subject. One of the improvement I would like to add is to make field visits available to all the courses to get more knowledge about the outside world.

Government College for Women , Thiruvananthapuram is an excellent college regarding its environment and facilities. As it is a government college the yearly fees are reasonable and lower compared to the autonomous and private colleges. The year wise tuition fees I paid for three years was ?2530 rupees per month. The caution deposit was ?600 and that was refunded. The PTA fund was ?4000 , college development committe fund was ?500 . There are many scholarships available such as single girl child scholarship of UGC of ?36000 per year for PG . The merit award for research students ?8000 will be given as two installments of ?4000. Other scholarships for SC/ST students are also available . They also have fee concession even if they pay the whole amount will be refunded.

Many fests and celebrations are conducted in our college. For every special days there is a celebration with all sorts of dances , songs , competitions , etc. Onam , Christmas , College day all are celebrated and every one of the students participate. Youth festivals are icing in the cake . Atleast one of the prizes will be from our college. The library to be precise is very vast , we have both department and a common library . The books and journals are vast and informative. The classrooms contain projectors and other facilities associated with it for seminar and class presentations. The sports team contains rugby , shortball , cricket , football ,basketball , volleyball , and the main highlight is that it's all women's team. There are a lot of clubs like NCC , NSS and other small clubs and there are a lot of programmes conducted by the clubs such as cleaning , campaigns etc But the clubs are not often seen evidently.

The eligibility for the course was Bcom with 55%marks . The application form , fees and dates all were available and applied for via the Kerala University website. After that there are reservation for SC/ST , OBC non creamy layer , EWS etc and also the merit list. There is no entrance exam for pg as it is chosen by the marks scored in Bcom. Improvement in areas like the spot allotment process should be made easier rather than complex

Teh faculties were so intelligent and with great knowledge about their particular subjects and others too. They are always available in time of doubts and clearance session. They are ready to explain us individually too. Most of the faculties are PhD holders and are extremely sincere in their work. The discussions and seminars involve us to develop ourselves and inspire us to take a path forward. The seminars and presentations make us to mould into teachers.
