Review for QUADRA INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDA

Majority of subjects are really helpful with their clinical applications in either diagnosing or treating the patients but some other subjects like Sanskrit grammar, padartha vigyan and others are just irrelevant and pose no significant use, the exams get difficult with each passing years as you have to study around 5 subjects per year and each subject has 2 papers and you have to pass in both of them.

The allopathic internship is pretty good, you can choose from various govt hospitals, CHCs or PHCs to join for your 6 month internship and learn several skills based on the place you've chosen like hospitals offers the most possibilities like emergency/trauma department duties, medicine/ gynae/pedia /ortho/surgery /ENT dept OPDs which is a rotatory internship so you'll spend time in every department based on your duty chart. The students from private colleges get no stipend but the students from govt college get around 18000 per month which is credited to your account.

I was part of the 2017–2022 batch at Quadra Institute of Ayurveda, Roorkee, which comes under Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Dehradun. My overall experience at the college was quite good, especially in terms of building a strong foundation in Ayurveda. What I appreciated most was that the college doesn’t limit you to just Ayurvedic knowledge—it also includes basic training in modern medicine, which is really important in today’s healthcare landscape. The total course fee when I joined was ?2,50,000, though I’ve heard it has now increased to around ?3,25,000. The course includes a 1-year mandatory internship, divided into two parts: 6 months at the college and 6 months at a hospital, CHC, or PHC near your hometown. The external internship especially focuses on practical exposure to modern medicine—clinical rounds, patient handling, and understanding diagnostic procedures—which really helps bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary healthcare systems. While there’s still scope for improvement in infrastructure and research, the faculty is approachable, and the college gives you enough space to grow—if you’re willing to put in the effort. All in all, a decent place for someone genuinely interested in both Ayurveda and integrated medicine.

The library is fully equipped with any course related book you need including both ayurvedic and allopathic books. In terms of extra-curricular activities there are none, sports festivals are held once in 3 or 4 years other than that there is nothing, some intra college slogan or poster competition are there for you to participate though.

The admission criteria is completely based on your marks obtained in NEET UG entrance examination and is merit based, back in my time it was based on UAPMT and was merit based too, you can choose from around 7 to 8 Colleges in Uttarakhand which provides BAMS in which around 3 colleges are government and others are private. During the time of internship the students from government college gets a stipend of around 18000 but the others studying in private colleges get nothing so choose wisely.

The faculty is pretty good and will teach you about both BAMS and MBBS correlatively but some teachers are from south and there is a language barrier which hinders with their teaching skills although studying experience is quite nice. The ayurvedic subjects might be a problem for some students as you have to read and learn shlokas in sanskrit as mentioned in our vedas. In exams you have to write those shlokas to get passing scores which can be an issue for some students and you have to write modern aspect too as in allopathic medicine so a lot of students fail to pass the exams, sometimes majority, the Uttarakhand ayurved university which handles the exams is pretty bad, sometimes the results get delayed by a year.

There is no gym in campus or anywhere near the college itself, cafeteria offers average meals, the hostel only allows outings on weekends or Sundays for 2 to 3 hours other than that you have to take permission from the concerned authorities, not much hangout places near college but you can go to dehradun which is around 80kms from the college to spend your weekend.
