Decent faculty and top tier placements, just follow the rules

The curriculum is now updated since it became a University, so its more relevant to industry now but still we have to do extra courses for coding. Exams happen every few months—2 internals and one end-sem. They are not very easy, you actually need to study to pass without backlogs

Silicon is actually very serious about internships. We have this thing called "Practice School" (PS) in the final semester where almost everyone gets a chance to work in the industry. In the last batch, around 260+ students got paid internships. The stipends vary a lot—some small startups give around ?8,000 to ?10,000, but if you're lucky and get into big companies, it can go upto ?1 Lakh per month.

The yearly fees is around 1.5 to 1.7 Lakhs per year for B.Tech. For the whole 4 year course, it goes upto 7-8 Lakhs if you include hostel and everything. I paid around 1.6L in my first year and it has been slightly increasing every year by a few thousands. Tuition fees is the main part but there is also development fees and lab fees which they take every sem. Caution money is 5000 approx and its refundable. For scholarships, if you have good rank in OJEE or JEE Main, you can get Medhabruti or some state govt scholarships. Silicon also gives some waiver for toppers but you have to be in top 1% or something.

The campus is not very big but it is well maintained. The library is great, you can find almost all books there and it's a quiet place to study during exams. We have annual fests like Zygon which is the best time of the year, usually happens in Feb or March. There are many clubs like the Creative Club, Music club and some technical ones too. The labs have decent wifi and the systems are updated. Sports is okay, we have a basketball court and a small field but its not huge.

I chose Silicon because it’s known for its discipline and placement record in Bhubaneswar. I applied to KIIT and SOA too but Silicon felt more value for money. The admission is mainly through JEE Main or OJEE counseling. .

The faculty here are actually quite good compared to other private colleges in Odisha. Most of them have PhDs and they know their stuff, especially in the CSE and ECE departments. The teaching is a bit traditional though, like they focus alot on notes and attendance. Marking scheme is okay, but you have to study hard for the internals because they are strict with marks. The boy to girl ratio is maybe 3:1 or 4:1, mostly boys in every branch except maybe CS. Placements are the best part of Silicon, many companies like TCS, Infosys, and Mindtree come every year.

Nightlife inside the campus is mostly about hanging out in the cafeteria or near the hostels. The hostel timings are a bit strict for girls, usually 7 or 8 PM, but for boys it's a bit more relaxed inside the gates. Outside the college, there are many food stalls and cafes in the Patia area which is very close. Its quite safe to roam around even at 9-10 PM because there are many students living nearby. Most students unwind by just sitting near the "Skylab" area or going for a walk after dinner.
