Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships are fully-funded awards available for students commencing graduate research programs at the University of Melbourne. Students must enroll in the masters and doctoral programs at the University of Melbourne.

  • Annually 600 Melbourne Graduate Research scholarships are awarded to incoming students.
  • Living allowances and relocation grants will also be given along with a 100% tuition fee waiver.
  • Applicants have to fulfill the entry requirements of their chosen Melbourne graduate degree program.
  • Eligible candidates will be auto-considered based on admission application, deadline for which is October 31, 2020.
  • Scholarship is renewable and awarded for a maximum duration of  3.5 years.

The selection committee at the University of Melbourne will take into consideration relevant work experience, refereed publications, specialist medical qualification of the candidates while announcing the winners of the scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must meet entry requirements at the University of Melbourne to secure Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships. In addition to that, they must fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

  • Enroll in master's or doctoral research degree at the University of Melbourne.
  • Meet minimum English Language requirements.
    • TOEFL94+ (Writing: 27; Speaking: 18; Reading: 13; Listening: 13)
    • IELTS: 7.0 (Written: 7.0; no band less than 6.0)
    • PTE: 65+ 
  • Fulfill Melbourne graduate research degree program entry requirements
    • 75% marks in the last year of the four-year Bachelor degree
    • Completion of a research project or component at 4th year of the UG or PG degree

Application Process

A student will be considered for the scholarship award at the time of admission at the University of Melbourne. The student will receive a notification after seven days of course application, that a scholarship application has been added to their file.

As a part of student supporting documentation, students are required to submit the following documents:

  • Certification of purchase an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
  • Scores of English proficiency tests like TOEFL,IELTS, etc.
  • Academic transcripts
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Academic and Employer referees

Selection Process

Eligible candidates will be ranked on the basis of their academic achievements in the previously completed degree and their potential for research in their chosen study area.

Other factors are taken into consideration while selecting deserving candidates for the scholarship.

  • Completion of a degree at the same level of research course,
  • Relevant work experience,
  • Refereed publications,
  • Specialist medical qualification.

Grant Details

Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships is an excellent opportunity to study in one of the top universities in Australia, the University of Melbourne without being upset about the finances.

The scholarship provides a full fee offset for up to two years for a research-based master's degree-seeking student and up to four years for a doctoral degree-seeking student.

Other Benefits offered by Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships are listed below:

  • A living allowance of 31,200 AUDis awarded on a pro-rata basis.
  • A relocation grant of 2000 AUD is provided to students who have moved from outside of Australia.
  • Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership is given to International Students who require a visa to study in Australia.

Terms and Conditions of the Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships are:

  1. The scholarship is conditional on maintaining full-time enrolment in the course at the University of Melbourne.
  2. Commence the scholarship in the year for which the scholarship was offered.
  3. The maximum duration of a stipend and fee offset for students undertaking a Master’s degree is 2 years.
  4. The maximum duration of a stipend is 3.5 years full-time equivalent.
  5. The maximum duration of a fee offset is 4 years full-time equivalent for students undertaking a Doctoral degree.
  6. Any false or misleading information provided by students may cease the scholarship amount.
  7. The student is required to repay any scholarship benefits within 14 days of being requested to do so by the University.

Students who are currently enrolled in a graduate course and wish to acquire a scholarship must submit an online application form before October 31,2020.
