[Source: QS, US News; peer tuition figures market-median estimates and to be verified on each university’s official cost page]
Indiana University Bloomington wins on two axes for Indian students: the low Bloomington cost of living, and the concentration of top-3 world subject ranks at Kelley for Business Administration and Finance. Applicants prioritising pure engineering or CS depth should still shortlist Purdue and Wisconsin alongside.
Indiana University Bloomington is the right pick for an Indian student targeting a top-30 US business school brand or a STEM-designated Luddy master’s without paying coastal-city tuition and rent. Two-year investment near ₹90 lakh against a Kelley MBA median base of ₹123.3 lakh puts the ROI on the healthier side of most US public research peers, and the STEM OPT extension supports a three-year US work runway after graduation.
It is a weaker fit for applicants who need a top-100 QS World brand for family or employer signalling in India, or who want a large metro campus with a bigger Indian graduate cohort. Purdue West Lafayette is a realistic named alternative for STEM-heavy shortlists at a similar public-university price point.

- Academics is great
- It's a great option if you're planning to do a PhD in computing or informatics or human-computer interaction.
- If you want a college life, full of exciting events and parties, this is a great school.
Dislikes
- It doesn't have a wide range of courses since we have limited number of departments in the school of computing.
- In terms of getting a job, it depends on your prep, how you network, and you should have a better profile before coming to this university or any other university in the US for that matter.
Campus Life
-
Campus life is amazing. We have lots of events every week, every single day, even. There are hundreds of clubs that could include:
- dancing
- extracurricular activities
- sports
- arts
- music
- hiking
- all sorts of things
- These are all student clubs run by student bodies. There are also research clubs like:
- Quantum Physics Club
- physics club
- chemistry club
- mathematics club
- There can also be a movie club or an anime club.
Fees
- The best way is to go to the official university website and search for the relevant department and check the tuition cost there, because the tuition varies on a yearly basis.

- I love the infra, campus, faculty and how everyone supports you along your journey.
- I just love the college, its like a second home to me.
Campus Life
- A vast number of clubs are in IU, and events are held every semester, almost every day; there are multiple events. You are free to even start your own club and communities. A variety of sports facilities for different sport types were provided for every student, and there was also one credit course you could take to like learn a sport as well and get your stress off from actual studies.
- Herman B Wells Library, one of the biggest libraries in IU, was my go-to place during midterms or exams. Not just that library, there were a couple more libraries too in each building.

- They are awesome with so many fun events & activities round the year. There are almost 12-20 campuses & the entire town is our campus, to be honest! There are faculties of all the domains. Homecoming, basketball matches & Thanksgiving are highlights. There is a pre-exam relaxing week as well, which has numerous fun activities. IUB fair has its own beauty!

- By pursuing an undergraduate program in Finance from the Kelley School of Business, I intend to gain a deeper understanding in the fields of corporate finance, financial reporting, and cost management. This would enable me to build ‘great ships’ and keep them from ‘sinking’. Furthermore, the ‘Security Trading and Market Making’ elective excites me since I have a keen interest in the stock market. I eagerly follow my country’s National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange and I also invest in index funds. A business and finance degree with Kelley School of Business will inculcate in me the skills and knowledge required to monitor financial markets and the performance of individual securities/ commodities. In addition, The IUSG first year internship program will give me the opportunity to utilize and develop my leadership skills, thereby making me ‘future ready’!
- I like the fact that IU hosts events on a daily basis that an are free to attend and make the student feel light after a heavy week of studying. Carnivals, balance week( an all day event that goes on for weeks to manage students mental health during finals week) and many more extracurricular activities in sports really help the student to cool off. Moreover, the place became home to me in a period of only 9 months.

- One thing I did not like about my university is the food! Being an international student I found the food average and had problems with the quality of food in my freshman year. After talking to a few locals as well, I understood that they too had such problems even though they were locally situated.
Overview
My college experience this year was really one to remember. Apart from the success academically I feel I enjoyed the process of having fun and making most of opportunities presented to me. I thoroughly enjoyed making new friends who were local citizens of Bloomington. Interacting with them on a daily basis showed me how different cultures operate and how diverse IU really is.
Campus Life
IU has a whole lot of extracurricular activities like intramural sports and carnivals. Moreover, the recreational sports centre offers various sports where you can go with your friends, rent out equipment and play for as long as you want. Lastly, the Herman B Wells Library is one of the best study spots on campus. It has rooms one can book for free to study with friends, a Starbucks as well as an eatery.
Overview
The program ranking is pretty good, not a very expensive state, beautiful campus The overall experience has been pretty good. The programs are well ranked and the faculty is impressive. The infrastructure is really good and you will find lots of opportunities. The job search is basically in your own hands(true for all US universities), but you will find a lot of advisory for it. The campus is in top 10 beautiful campuses of USA.
Campus Life
Amazing! A lot of events keep happening every day. There's something for everyone. The sports facilities are top notch and the campus has very scenic and green spots to chill because it is a huge campus.

- It had the #7 best business school in the US and along with that I received a very good scholarship. Another reason was that I was close to my local guardian who lives 4 hours away.
- Indiana University has a very well spread out and great campus, with new and modern infrastructure. I also like the fact that even though it is huge, it is very well connected through public transportation. Another thing that I love about this college is their team of faculty and advisors. They are very well equipped to help you out in every way possible.
Dislikes
- There are very few things that I dislike about this university, but the biggest one is the availability of affordable food on campus without buying a meal plan. In my first year I did not realise this problem as I had a meal plan and I could get food very easily from the dinning halls, but after moving off campus the food has become very expensive to purchase out of pocket. So I believe that they could improve on this a little bit.
Overview
My overall experience at Indiana University has been very enlightening. I have learned a lot not just about my subject but also about myself and life in general. My biggest challenge after coming here was to settle and fit in to the culture and as time went by it was to stay here and make a mark for myself. I have been able to form a lot of meaningful friendships and connections with people from all walks of life. I would definitely recommend people to come and study abroad if they have the resources to as it can really shape you into a well rounded individual.
Campus Life
The campus life is well balanced and there are lot of places to get involved in. There are multiple events and extracurricular activities taking place on campus all year round. We have a club involvement fair in the beginning of each semester for students to explore them and join them if they are interested. Wifi is free on campus and is available in all the buildings at all times. There is a huge sports facility with almost 50 different sports and a gym area. There are 3 main libraries on campus with a wide variety of subjects and books available.

- I chose this university because it’s school of business was highly ranked (Kelley School of Business is top 8 business schools in the US). I also loved the campus because it’s very beautiful and felt like home. I chose to major in Finance because I’m mathematically inclined and like working with numbers.
Overview
I love it at Indiana University. The campus is so pretty and it is so easy to go on long walks through campus and feel an amazing energy all around you. It’s also easy to find somewhere to sit and do work or relax or hang out with friends. Everyone here has a lot of school spirit and there’s an amazing sense of community at such a big school. I met some of my lifelong friends here and got some amazing opportunities through extracurricular involvements and networking. I’ve grown a lot professionally and personally and I owe that to this school.
Campus Life
There are lots of opportunities to get involved on campus in a large variety of clubs. Clubs range from not competitive at all to very selective , it depends on your interest but there’s a lot of opportunities regardless. There’s three main sports facilities and a large focus on athletics, so students have a chance to play many different sports. There’s also a lot of research facilities and two main libraries for students to study at and get academically involved.
Overview
I chose this university for its business school. Its business school - Kelley School of Business is ranked among the top 10 business schools in the USA. Additionally, this university was relatively easier to get in without sacrificing a good education program.
Fees
The fee is around $50,000 per year.
Overview
I chose to this university because it has great faculty working in the area of my interest (Functional Analysis and Operator Theory). At IIT Delhi, we follow books written by authors that have worked/studied at Indiana University. In fact, my current supervisor (Prof. Hari Bercovici) at IU was my top choice because I was inspired by a book written by him. His research credentials are amazing and that’s what matters the most in PhD. The university’s math department ranks 34 and it’s situated in Bloomington which is a very pleasant place to live. I also had offers from - University of Oregon, University of California (Davis) and NYU(unfunded).
Overview
The Kelley School of Business is a well-ranked business school in the US which is why I chose Indiana University and after speaking to current students and their positive reviews, I chose IU.
