The University of Kent, established in 1965 and headquartered in Canterbury, is a public research university ranked #415 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and the 39th UK institution on the same list. It hosts more than 17,000 students from over 150 nationalities across its Canterbury, Medway and Tunbridge Wells campuses.
Kent offers over 300 postgraduate and 500 undergraduate programmes, all taught in English, with the strongest Indian demand sitting in MSc Business Analytics, MBA, MSc Psychology and BSc Accounting and Finance. Two main intakes serve Indian applicants each year: September (the primary cycle) and January (a smaller round available for selected taught masters). Kent Business School is triple-accredited by AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB, a credential fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide hold, and its MBA universities in UK peer set includes Cardiff, Reading and Aston.

University of Kent Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Kent’s admission thresholds for Indian applicants translate the UK 2:2 standard to a bachelor’s mark of 55% or a CGPA of 5.5 on 10, with subject-specific uplifts for finance and computing.
Postgraduate Taught Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended, UK 2:2 equivalent); Kent Business School raises this to 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 for MBA and finance streams
- English proficiency IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each band, TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1-6 scale) or 87 (0-120 legacy scale), PTE 67 or Duolingo 120
- Two academic references and a 500 word statement of purpose
- MBA requires 3 years post-qualification work experience; senior managers with 10+ years may be assessed without an honours degree
Undergraduate Requirements
- Class 12 with 75% to 85% in CBSE or ISC (recommended); state boards typically need 80% plus
- IELTS 6.0 with 5.5 in each band for most bachelor’s, rising to IELTS 6.5 for law and computing
- Personal statement submitted through UCAS with predicted grades
Accepted English tests also include the Kaplan KTE (459 to 494) and Oxford ELLT Digital (7 overall), and Kent runs pre-sessional English routes both in-person and online for applicants below the entry band. Kent does not currently list a blanket English test waiver for Indian applicants graduating from English-medium bachelor’s programmes; case-by-case waivers are considered on production of a formal medium-of-instruction letter.
Key insight: The TOEFL iBT score reporting scale changed on 21 January 2026, and Kent publishes both scales through 2028. Send the score in whichever format your official score report carries; the admissions team maps between them without a re-test.
University of Kent Acceptance Rate 2027
The University of Kent does not publish a single institutional offer rate. Third-party admissions data converge on an estimate of 80% to 85% (estimated) across all applicants, placing Kent among the more accessible mid-ranked UK universities for Indian applicants. Competitive selection sits inside individual programmes rather than at institutional level.
Kent Business School’s MBA, MSc Finance and MSc Business Analytics receive the heaviest Indian demand and consequently trend below the institutional band. MSc Psychology and law programmes cap intake based on lab and moot-court capacity, so early submission carries more weight in these routes than sheer academic strength.
Reality check: An 80% band does not translate to guaranteed entry. Indian applicants below Kent’s 55% bachelor’s threshold or the equivalent 75% Class 12 band should assume rejection regardless of the headline rate, since Kent uses academic minima as a hard filter before subjective review.

| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |

University of Kent Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Kent’s careers outcomes track the UK mid-tier median, with the Graduate Outcomes Survey placing Kent’s graduate employment rate at the sector average and starting salaries clustered in the GBP 27,000 to 32,000 band.
- Median graduate starting salary (UK-wide market median): GBP 27,000 to 32,000 (INR 35.3 to 41.8 lakh)
- Median MBA salary post-graduation (market median): GBP 45,000 to 55,000 (INR 58.8 to 71.9 lakh)
- Top recruiter sectors: Financial services, consulting, technology, public sector and law (specific recruiter list not officially disclosed)
- Careers support: Kent’s Careers and Employability Service runs employer fairs each semester and secures placement year positions for Business Analytics and Computing sandwich students
- Post-study work: Two-year Graduate Route visa available on completion, extended to three years for PhD graduates
Insider note: Indian graduates from Kent Business School most frequently place with UK financial services, Big Four consulting arms and Indian conglomerates hiring back into London offices; the placement year variant of MSc Business Analytics materially improves recruiter conversion versus the 12-month straight track.
University of Kent vs Peer Universities
The peer set below compares Kent with UK mid-tier universities of similar QS band and Indian PGT demand, plus one European reference point for cost benchmarking.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg PG Fee (GBP) | Avg PG Fee (INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Kent | #415 | #340 | 22,000 | 28.8 lakh | Triple-accredited Kent Business School with GBP 5,000 India scholarship |
| University of Reading | #166 | Not ranked | 27,500 | 36.0 lakh | Henley Business School with stronger MBA rank |
| University of Sussex | #232 | Not ranked | 25,500 | 33.3 lakh | Higher QS rank in exchange for higher fees and Brighton COL |
| Cardiff University | #186 | Not ranked | 26,000 | 34.0 lakh | Russell Group membership and stronger research intensity |
| Aston University | #495 | Not ranked | 21,500 | 28.1 lakh | Comparable fee band with Birmingham job market access |
Kent stands out on cost per QS band, delivering top-100 THE subject scores in Law and Psychology at a fee point 15% to 25% below Russell Group peers. The bundled Kent International Scholarship of GBP 5,000 for every Indian offer holder narrows the total cost gap further and is the single largest scholarship uplift among the peer set at PGT level.
The University of Kent is a strong fit for Indian applicants seeking a triple-accredited business masters or top-100 THE Law or Psychology programme at a total investment of INR 39 to 57 lakh, with an entry threshold of 55% bachelor’s and IELTS 6.5, and a return anchor of the UK Graduate Route two-year study in UK post-study work visa.
Kent is not the right pick for applicants targeting Russell Group brand recognition for banking, consulting or civil service back in India, where Cardiff or Warwick would carry more weight; nor for candidates whose bachelor’s marks sit below 55%, who would find Aston or Coventry more accessible on academic thresholds.
University of Kent FAQs
Ques. Does University of Kent accept 15-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for masters entry?
Ans. Yes, Kent accepts three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for direct entry into most taught masters programmes, provided the degree is from a UGC recognised university with 55% or CGPA 5.5 out of 10. Kent Business School applies the same rule for the MBA and MSc Finance, with the additional three-year work experience filter for MBA. No pre-masters bridge is required for standard three-year Indian bachelor’s holders.
Ques. Can Indian students work part time while studying at Kent?
Ans. Yes, Indian students on a Student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during university vacations. The Kent Union JobShop lists on-campus roles paying the UK real living wage of GBP 12.60 per hour, and Canterbury’s retail and hospitality sector hires actively from the student pool. Placement year and pre-sessional students carry their own visa work rules that must be verified before signing a contract.
Ques. Is a GMAT or GRE required for Kent Business School masters or MBA?
Ans. No, Kent Business School does not require GMAT or GRE for its taught masters or MBA at the standard entry threshold. A strong quantitative background from the bachelor’s degree is expected for MSc Finance and MSc Business Analytics. Candidates below the 55% academic threshold may voluntarily submit a GMAT of 600 or higher to strengthen the application, but Kent will not solicit the test as part of the standard offer.
Ques. What is the application fee for University of Kent postgraduate courses?
Ans. Kent charges no application fee for undergraduate applications routed through UCAS or for the majority of postgraduate taught programmes applied to directly through the Kent online portal. A GBP 50 deposit is requested on offer acceptance for PGT and is credited against first-term tuition. MBA applicants pay a GBP 3,000 acceptance deposit that is fully credited to tuition once enrolment is confirmed.
Ques. Which Indian banks approve education loans for University of Kent?
Ans. All major Indian public sector banks recognise the University of Kent as an approved overseas institution for education loans, including SBI Global Ed-Vantage, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank, along with private lenders HDFC Credila, Avanse and Auxilo. Unsecured loans up to INR 50 lakh are typical for Kent’s QS band, with secured loans up to INR 1.5 crore against collateral for the full course cost including living expenses.
Ques. Can Indian applicants get an English test waiver at Kent University?
Ans. Kent does not offer a blanket English test waiver for Indian applicants and typically requires an IELTS 6.5 or equivalent score. Case-by-case waivers are considered on production of a formal medium-of-instruction letter from the awarding Indian university confirming full English-medium delivery of the bachelor’s degree. Kent Business School and Law School rarely grant this exemption and expect a valid test regardless of the applicant’s academic background.
Ques. Are dependents allowed on the Kent University Student visa for Indian students?
Ans. Under the UK Home Office rules effective January 2024, dependents on the Student visa route are permitted only for PhD applicants and government-sponsored masters longer than nine months. Standard taught masters applicants at Kent, including MBA and MSc programmes of one year duration, cannot bring dependents on the Student visa. Spouses and children may apply separately once the primary applicant transitions to the Graduate Route or a Skilled Worker visa.
Ques. How long does the UK Graduate Route visa last after Kent University?
Ans. The Graduate Route visa gives Kent’s masters graduates two years of unrestricted post-study work in the UK, extending to three years for PhD completers. The visa carries no employer sponsorship requirement and allows applicants to work at any skill level or switch jobs freely. Applications must be filed inside the UK before the Student visa expires and cost GBP 822 plus the immigration health surcharge at the standard student rate.

- The university is big and faculties are welcoming.
- Professors were polite and helpful. I remember few of my friends told me that they were facing cold gestures from their professors.
- My classes never got disturbed or suspended due to strike which was good thing.
Dislikes
- It is far from city centre. You will have to take a bus or walk 40 minutes for cheap grocery shopping.
- Canterbury is very isolated place. You will only find old people there.
- University is huge but most of the time its empy. You will feel depressed because of not so many students there.
Campus Life
- During my time, there were 2 campuses: Canterbury and Medway.
- On my campus, facilities were available, on my campus such as the library, sports, medical services, a modern gym, a dance studio, and cozy cafes.
- I loved varsity matches, glamorous Kent dance ball, and sports events.
- There were a lot of sports events, networking events by big companies, and food events from a lot of new snack companies.
Fees
- Well, I paid £21200 for my entire course. There were no other charges as I was living in private accommodation, which cost me £375months and I used to spend nearly £200 on food.
- In two installments. You can pay 1st half once you land in uk after registration in the college. 2nd in December.
- Well, I have already explained about rent and food. Add another £100 for transportation.

Likes
- Great diversity in modules and the option to choose 2 optional modules from the list.
- Triple-accredited Business School.
- In the second semester, PWC and JP Morgan visited the campus for an event where students could connect directly with their team.
Dislikes
- There should be more companies or Banks that visit the campus.
- I feel these should be a 50:50 assessment for the modules based on assignments and written exams, as compared to what, at the moment, was 20:80.
- The library should have more updated and relevant books for our course modules.
Campus Life
- Because master's courses are just 1-year courses, they end very soon. We don't have much time for sports or any other activities, so I was not able to play any sports, but I was the course representative and joined a few societies where we used to get together and celebrate indian festivals.
- Few societies are paid, and few are free to join. We can join any of them according to our interests.
Fees
- For me, it was just tuition fees because I was living off campus. We can pay in two instalments, but before the start of the second semester, full fees should be paid. You can ask the university for further extension in special cases for fee payment.
- Monthly expenses
- Rent: 450-550
- Bills - 50-70
- Grocery 120-150
- Travelling - 50
- Misc. - 50
- Total - 700-800
- But it all depends on how frequently you eat out, how expensive your rent is and how much you spend on shopping.
