Teesside University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Teesside sets modest academic thresholds for Indian applicants across UG and PG, with English proficiency the single most binding requirement.

Postgraduate applicants:

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5 out of 10 for standard MSc, MA, and MEng routes; MBA prefers 60% plus 2+ years of full-time work experience
  • English (standard PG): IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band; TOEFL iBT 90 (Listening 17, Reading 18, Writing 17, Speaking 20); PTE Academic 59
  • English (Law, Psychology, Education, Criminology): IELTS Academic 6.5 overall; health programmes require IELTS 7.0
  • Additional: No GRE or GMAT required for MSc or MBA entry

Undergraduate applicants:

  • Academic: Class 12 (CBSE, ISC, or state board) with 65% to 75% depending on subject; PCM 70% for engineering, PCB 70% for nursing
  • English (standard UG): IELTS Academic 5.5 overall for art, design, media, engineering, and computing; 6.0 for business, English, law, and psychology
  • Pre-sessional route: Applicants scoring IELTS 4.5 or higher but below the course minimum can join a pre-sessional English programme before the main degree

Note: Teesside accepts Class 12 English marks (70%+) or an MOI letter from an English-medium bachelor’s as an IELTS waiver for many taught masters, which is not universally offered by UK universities in this fee band.

Teesside’s Indian PG acceptance rate is 74.1% (estimated), based on 2025 UCAS non-UK undergraduate applicant data; the university does not publish an official cross-intake acceptance rate for postgraduate admission. This places Teesside among the more accessible UK universities for Indian applicants who meet the academic and English thresholds.

Teesside Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027

Teesside operates a single-site, walkable campus in central Middlesbrough with an added London teaching site for the Global MBA and select computing routes.

  • Location and transport: Single-site town centre campus in Middlesbrough with direct rail to Newcastle (45 minutes), York (60 minutes), and London (2 hours 45 minutes); no daily commute costs, most students walk to lectures
  • Accommodation: University-managed halls priced GBP 130 to 165/week, walking distance from campus, 100% guaranteed for full-time international students who apply by the July deadline
  • Facilities: The BIOS Building houses labs for anatomy, pharmacy, microbiology, and chemistry; purpose-built engineering labs cover aerospace, electrical, and telecommunications; a GBP 270 million campus reinvestment has funded new library, gym, and student wellbeing spaces
  • Indian student community: Roughly 1,500 to 2,000 Indian students, active Indian Society hosting Diwali and Holi events, three Indian grocers within 10 minutes walk, and multiple South Asian restaurants around Linthorpe Road

What Indian students say: Applicants consistently flag Middlesbrough’s low rent and short walk to lectures as the biggest quality-of-life advantages, and warn incoming students to bring warm layers for the North East winter and to open a UK bank account inside the first two weeks.

Planning note: Global Excellence is the easiest win because it needs no separate application; Indian applicants simply hold their offer past 30 April and it applies automatically. The Vice-Chancellor’s award is worth chasing early: only 30 spots and personal statements are read in submission order.

Teesside University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Teesside reports a 96% graduate employment rate within 15 months of graduation, with computing, engineering, and business masters students driving the strongest Indian outcomes through the UK Graduate Route.

  • Graduate employment rate: 96% within 15 months, as per Teesside Degree Outcomes Statement 2025
  • UK Graduate Route: Indian graduates on Student Visa qualify for 2 years post-study work for applications made pre-January 2027, and 18 months for applications made from January 2027 onward
  • Median starting salary: Not officially disclosed at graduate level; market medians for Middlesbrough-based new hires in tech and engineering sit at GBP 26,000 to 32,000/year (INR 33.7 to 41.5 lakh, estimated)
  • Recruiter sectors: Regional and national employers across technology, consulting, engineering, healthcare (NHS), and creative industries; specific recruiter lists not publicly disclosed at course level
  • Career support: Careers and employability team runs CV clinics, mock interviews, LinkedIn workshops, and on-campus recruitment fairs; support extended to alumni for three years post-graduation

Note: Indian PG students report the strongest recruiter traction through the Graduate Route in Newcastle, Leeds, and Manchester tech clusters rather than Middlesbrough itself, because the North East regional job market is narrower.

Teesside University fits Indian applicants who want a UK degree with the lowest total investment in the peer set (INR 38.9 to 41.5 lakh all-in) and a clear ROI path through the UK Graduate Route to Skilled Worker sponsorship, particularly for masters in computer science, cybersecurity, or data science. The single-site walkable campus, three annual intakes, and automatic Global Excellence Scholarship make it especially efficient for first-time UK applicants.

It is not the right pick for Indian applicants seeking a top-100 QS ranking, London city life, or dense on-campus recruitment from FTSE 100 firms; those applicants should shortlist alternatives such as Northumbria University for a similar cost profile with a higher THE ranking.

FAQs

Ques. Does Teesside University waive the IELTS requirement for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, Teesside accepts a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from an English-medium bachelor’s degree or Class 12 English marks of 70% or higher as an IELTS waiver for most taught masters. Health-related courses, Law, and Psychology retain the formal IELTS 6.5 or 7.0 requirement. The waiver decision is at the admissions team’s discretion and confirmed on the offer letter.

Ques. How many hours can Indian students work part-time while studying at Teesside?

Ans. Indian students on a UK Student Visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term at Teesside University and full-time during official vacations. Common part-time roles include on-campus student assistant jobs, retail, hospitality, and warehouse shifts in the Middlesbrough and Stockton area. The National Living Wage from April 2026 is GBP 12.21/hour for workers aged 21+.

Ques. Is a GRE or GMAT score required for Teesside masters or MBA admission?

Ans. No, Teesside University does not require a GRE score for any taught MSc, and GMAT is not required for the Teesside MBA or Global MBA. Admission is based on the bachelor’s degree grade, work experience for MBA applicants, and English proficiency. This makes Teesside a faster and cheaper application route than universities that mandate GRE or GMAT.

Ques. What is the Teesside University application fee for international students?

Ans. Teesside does not charge an application fee for direct international applications made through the university portal. Undergraduate applications routed through UCAS carry the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 to GBP 30 for multiple choices in the 2027 cycle. Postgraduate applications remain fee-free when submitted directly.

Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for Teesside University?

Ans. Teesside University sits within the THE top 1000 band, so most Indian public sector lenders including SBI, Bank of Baroda, and Bank of India offer unsecured education loans up to INR 20 to 40 lakh, and secured loans up to INR 1.5 crore for the full cost. Private lenders such as HDFC Credila, Avanse, and Auxilo also fund Teesside admits with faster turnaround times.

Ques. Can Indian students bring dependents on a Teesside University Student Visa?

Ans. Only Indian students on a UK PhD or research-based masters at Teesside can bring dependents (spouse and children under 18) on a Dependent Visa. Taught masters and undergraduate students cannot bring dependents under the January 2024 UK Home Office rules. Dependents on eligible visas can work full-time in the UK without restriction and access NHS through the Immigration Health Surcharge.

Ques. How long does the Teesside University admission decision take for Indian applicants?

Ans. Teesside typically issues an admission decision within 3 to 5 weeks of a complete application, and the CAS statement follows 2 to 4 weeks after tuition deposit payment and final offer condition clearance. Applying 12 to 14 weeks before the intake pre-CAS deadline gives comfortable buffer for visa interview slots at UK visa centres in Delhi, Mumbai, or Chennai.

Ques. What financial proof do Indian students need for a Teesside Student Visa?

Ans. Indian applicants must show funds covering the first year of tuition (GBP 17,000) minus any deposit paid, plus 9 months of living costs at GBP 1,136/month for outside London (GBP 10,224 for Middlesbrough). Total proof needed is roughly GBP 27,000 (INR 35.0 lakh) held in the applicant’s or a close family member’s account for 28 consecutive days ending within 31 days of the visa application.

  • There are around 10 buildings on campus.
  • The main building is curved. When I was studying, our classes for engineering were in the Stephenson building. It is a multistorey building inculdes coffee dispenser and a vending machine. There is a student union building which has a cafeteria, and the building is for helping students if they are having problems.
  • The university has a digital life building, which is fairly new and has all the advanced tools. It also has a gym.

Fees

  • I was a 2020 student of Master's in Mechanical Engineering. I have done 2 years course, which includes advanced practice. It cost me around 12000 as university fees. The rent here in Middlesbrough is cheap as comapre to other cities. 280-350 is the average rent per person.
  • The transportation facility is really good. There are some options available to pay fees in installments.

  • 1 campus in Middlesbrough city, near Newcastle
  • The college has every possible facility, such as a library, student council building, gym, medical services, bars, parking, cafes, etc.
  • There are all sorts of cultural programs like Holi, and something new is always going on in the student council building, like there is a club called TPAS, for acting, dancing, and performing arts. A whole lot of societies and clubs.
  • Even for sports, almost all sports have a club there, there as squash, wheelchair basketball, wall climbing, volleyball, badminton, and many more sports available

Fees

  • The fees are based on your course. As I was an exchange student, I didn't have any tuition fees for Teesside, but for regular students, the fees were around 15-16k pounds, and it was yearly.
  • I lived in a rented room near the university, it cost 440 pounds monthly, and the food cost around 200 pounds, but it depends on your diet, and I actually travelled a lot and went out to eat a lot, so on a monthly basis it cost me 800-1000 pounds.

  • there one two campus one in Middlesbrough and one in Darlington. The main campus is in Middlesbrough, but the student who had the class in Darlington had to manage the travel by themself, as there was no transportation from the university.
  • I only know that Darlington has the library and lab for the bio students. I don't know any other things for my campus, which is in Middlesbrough; it had everything: a sports building, which included a gym, a football ground, a climbing wall, and a badminton place.
  • There was a swimming pool as well but it was off-campus and a little far from the campus. there is a club as well on my main campus which serves the discounted drinks to uni students who provide the student ID.
  • There was a whole month dedicated to the event before we started the course which is in September intact, which included nightclubs, question games, disco nights and many others.

Fees

  • During my admission, the total course fee was £14,000. I was supposed to pay half upfront (£7,000), but after getting a £1,500 scholarship and an additional £500 discount for paying the rest in full, I paid £5,000 in my first year. Fees could be paid yearly or broken into monthly instalments. I chose private housing with a friend, which was far cheaper than the university accommodation.
  • My monthly expenses were lower due to shared rent, and I managed transport and living costs within a reasonable budget. The total fee during my addition was 14000 pounds; I meant to pay half, which is 7000 but I got a 1500 scholarship and 500 off if I pay the whole remaining amount.
  • So I paid 5000 in the first year. there is an option to break it down to monthly if the student prefers. I took the private renting option to share with my friend, which was way cheaper than the accommodation offered by the university. scholarship eligibility was to have good goodmarks in 10th standard in English, I think. I don't know any other scholarships provided by the university. there is a price hike in courses as well since my admission.

  • 2 campuses. One in Darlington and another one in Middlesbrough
  • There were 24/7 gym facilities, 24/7 library, a cafeteria, seating spaces in the middle of the campus, etc.
  • There is indian society which conducts many programs. Also the freshers' day and end of college day, which are conducted by the university, are marvellous.
  • I didn't see any sports event which took place on the campus. But there are a lot of festival programmes.

Fees

  • £15000 and there was a £2000 scholarship discount and hence the overall fee was £13000 Yearly (You have the option to pay as an instalment)
  • Considering the city is cheap, the estimated monthly expense, including rent, would be £350. It could go up or down based on the rent. If you wish to look for a shared house, the rent is comparatively cheap.

  • The college has recently opened a 3rd campus in London. Library 24/7 is available. Sport and Gym facilities are available, but those are paid facilities. There is a major freshers' week at the University that has different events. There is a breakfast club.
  • The Indian society club is available as well. Various student communities are available as well. There is a student organization at the University

Fees

  • it was 15000 GBP and there was the option of instalments, like an initial 5,000 deposit and then 3,333 + 3,333 + 3,334 every month. The fees were charged annually; however, we were asked to pay it in the span of 4 months only.
  • Monthly expenses included rent bills (100 GBP), groceries (100 GBP) and any other expense of around 100 GBP, making total of 500-600 GBP

  • Campus life is pretty nice, and yes it has wonderful facilities like a library, research centres and advanced labs. Main Campus fests are Halloween, freshers Day and Christmas.
  • Teesside University currently has two campuses, located in Middlesbrough and London.
  • A library, sports club, and facilities including a badminton court, a football ground, a basketball court, and a squash court are present. An excellent rock climbing club is also present.
  • Several clubs are there, which include a book club, music club, sports club, etc. Festivals include Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.
  • 4Among student organizations, we had the student union club, which was very helpful in solving any issues that international students faced. There is also a free mental health counseling service done by university people to help those who are facing nostalgia for their own home country.

Fees

  • The tuition fee was charged yearly.
    £7000 per year (without scholarship)
  • The monthly expenses while I studied were around £800 each month, which includes rent of approximately £330 for a single shared room, £250 for monthly groceries and food, and the remainder for shopping, eating out, and transportation.
  • But it also depends heavily on your spending habits and your own personal finance management.

1. What are the differences between the Master in Bioinformatics and Master in Bioinformatics (with Advanced Practice) programs at Teesside University? 2. How do these programs align with pursuing a PhD after completing my master's degree from Teesside University?

Both programs offer intensive training in managing and analyzing biological data using computational approaches, the advanced practice variant provides additional experiential learning opportunities through practical placements or research projects. This enhances skill development and offers hands-on experience aligned with industry or academic needs, further preparing students for diverse career paths, including pursuing a PhD after completing their master's degree.
