The fact that Cardiff Uni is one of the premier Universities in the UK and due to the excellent faculty that the Journalism department houses. The city of Cardiff also was an attractive proposition. The fac that universities in the UK predominantly provide a one year Masters education programme.
Course Curriculum
The course was extremely practical and catered to a student that is not completely familiar with the practical work involved in news media. The fact is that a culture of self learning is paired with timely mentoring. This allows the student certain freedom's while also being allowed to maintain a channel for communication with the faculty.
Faculty
We had 3-4 professors catering to 30 odd students. They were all experienced journalists who have kept updated with the media industry. The extremely open and honest nature of these lecturers is an added advantage. Mathew Swaine and Professor Sachi left long standing impressions. While Janet always piqued my curiosity with her conversations.
Accommodation
Well maintained. Comfortable. Expensive though. Private accomodation is preferred by the majority of students. University accomodations are less modern than the private ones.
Exams
There was no interview. The statement of purpose was integral to securing the admission. The ability to display the clarity of your thought process and capabilities is essential. An honest description of your reasons for choosing that particular course and university can only help. A certain sense of determination needs to be conveyed through your statement of purpose.
Events
Excellent Infrastructure. One of the bet library facilities around the UK. Paired with well equipped student halls and sports facilities. Though most of these facilities require substantial amounts of money, the facilities are indeed top-notch. Depending on your proclivities and academic schedules, you may or may not find the time to engage in extra curricular activities.
