Course Curriculum

- The course structure was perfectly aligned with the practical part of my study. We learned skills required for research purposes, had lab-based practicals, and learned statistics as well. We had hands-on experience at the university as well as visited zoological parks & National sanctuaries.
- We had classes 4 days a week, 3 hours per lecture, and had 1 to 3 lectures a day. My course was a rare one; it was specially created as a way to study both human and animal psychology, so our class strength was only 9 students.
Admission Experience
- I was attracted towards the course modules, especially the semester research projects opportunities at Paignton zoo, Lundy Island in the Bristol Channel. And the Friday research class, where we had presentations & chat sessions with the world’s best scientists and researchers.
- A particular strength of my programme was access to the university's extensive animal behaviour research network, including the Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour (CRAB), one of the largest groups of animal behaviour researchers worldwide.
- I got a waiver for English as I had 90% & above in 12th
Faculty

- The faculty and staff at the University of Exeter were highly supportive, knowledgeable, and approachable. My MSc Animal Behaviour cohort was very small, with only 9 students, which allowed for a low student-to-faculty ratio and highly personalized academic support. The lecturers and research staff were experts in their fields and always available to provide guidance.
- A faculty member who had a particularly significant impact on me was Ms. Safi Darden, who served as my Personal Tutor, Professor-in-Charge, and Research Apprenticeship Supervisor. Her mentorship, academic support, and encouragement greatly contributed to my learning experience and personal development throughout the programme.
Campus Life

- The university has three campuses—Streatham and St Luke's in Exeter, and Penryn in Cornwall. It offers over 300 student clubs and societies covering sports, culture, volunteering, academic interests, music, and entrepreneurship, along with numerous events, workshops, and extracurricular activities throughout the year. Students also have access to outstanding sports facilities, fitness centres, sports clubs, and recreational activities, creating a well-rounded and supportive learning environment.
Part Time Jobs
- Students can find part-time work both on campus and off campus, including roles in student services, libraries, cafes, retail stores, hospitality, and administrative support. Students typically earn around £11–£15 per hour, depending on the role and employer. International students are generally allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during vacations, subject to visa conditions.
- Part-time jobs are usually secured through the university's careers portal, campus recruitment, networking, and online job websites. On-campus positions are competitive but accessible to proactive students who apply early. A smaller number of postgraduate students also obtain Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) roles based on academic performance, departmental needs, and available funding.

- After completing my MSc in Animal Behaviour at Exeter, I can work in animal behaviour research, wildlife conservation, animal welfare, ecology, environmental consultancy, and related fields. Many students also pursue PhD programmes or research careers. Most graduates secure employment or further study opportunities within 6–15 months of graduation.
- The typical starting salary ranges from approximately £24,000 to £35,000 per year, depending on the role and sector. Students usually find jobs through university career services, internships, research projects, networking, career fairs, and online job portals such as LinkedIn and Indeed. The University of Exeter also provides careers support, employer networking events, and recruitment workshops to enhance employability.
Accommodation
Off Campus

- I chose to stay in university-managed accommodation, as it is convenient and well-suited for international students. I lived in an en-suite room at Lafrowda (Block S) on Streatham Campus, which was within walking distance of the Forum and my classes. I secured the accommodation through the University of Exeter's accommodation portal.
- The rent was approximately £183 per week (around £790–£800 per month). The accommodation included a private bedroom and bathroom, shared kitchen facilities, Wi-Fi, utility bills, laundry facilities, and 24-hour support/security, providing a comfortable and safe living environment.
Exams
- There was no exam required for the admissions. The documents required for the admission process include SOP, LOR, CV, 10th & 12th grade mark sheets, all degree certificates & transcripts. Passport & Visa, offer letter, CAS. All the documents that were used during your Visa process. The university does not ask for all of them, but it’s better to carry them in case we need it incase of any emergency or requirement from the university.
