The University of London is a federal public research university based in Bloomsbury, central London. Founded in 1836, it groups 17 member institutions under one royal charter. Its flagship member, University College London, ranks #9 in QS World University Rankings 2027.
The central Worldwide body offers over 100 fully online undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, all taught in English. Popular routes for Indian applicants include the Global MBA, MSc Data Science and BSc Data Science and Business Analytics. These awards are academically directed by LSE, Goldsmiths and Royal Holloway respectively, with certificates identical to their on-campus counterparts.

Popular Courses and Fees at University of London 2026
University of London Worldwide fees are module-based, so the total programme cost depends on the modules selected and the pace of study. The figures below use official 2026/27 Band A rates that apply to Indian residents; 18% GST is added by the university at billing.
University of London Postgraduate Fees 2026
Flagship PG programmes are LSE-directed for Data Science and Finance, and directly managed by the University of London for the Global MBA. Total fees below reflect the standard maximum-module route for Band A.
| Programme | Total Fee (GBP) | Total Fee (INR Lakh) | Entry Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global MBA (2 to 5 years) | £13,697 | ₹17.48 Lakh | Bachelor’s plus 3 years managerial experience; age 24+ at registration |
| MSc Data Science (2 to 5 years) | £10,478 | ₹13.37 Lakh | Bachelor’s with 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended); computing or mathematics background |
| MSc Professional Accountancy (LSE-directed) | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Bachelor’s with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); accountancy exemption route available |
| LLM Master of Laws (Distance) | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Confirm on the official fee schedule | LLB or Bachelor’s in Law with 60% (recommended) |
University of London Undergraduate Fees 2026
UG programmes carry per-module fees, and the total range shown reflects standard-pace study to slower-pace study. Direct entry from Class 12 is accepted for applicants aged 17 or over at registration.
| Programme | Total Fee (GBP) | Total Fee (INR Lakh) | Entry Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc Data Science and Business Analytics (LSE-directed) | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Class 12 with 70% (recommended); mathematics required |
| BSc Computer Science (Goldsmiths-directed) | £14,666 to £21,829 | ₹18.72 to 28.86 Lakh | Class 12 with 70% (recommended); mathematics preferred |
| LLB Bachelor of Laws | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Confirm on the official fee schedule | Class 12 with 70% (recommended); no prior law background required |
Insider note: Indian students most often choose the Global MBA and MSc Data Science because the sub-₹18 Lakh total fee is roughly one-fifth of an equivalent on-campus MBA in the UK, and the same certificate is awarded.
University of London Admission 2026
The University of London operates a multi-intake model across October, January, April, May and programme-specific starts, so applications are open somewhere on the calendar for most of the year. The October cycle remains the primary intake for Indian applicants and carries the widest programme choice.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Global MBA (October 2026 intake) | 9 September 2026 | Closing soon; £65 application fee applies |
| BSc DSBA (November 2026 cohort) | 21 September 2026 | LSE-directed; module study begins November 2026 |
| BSc DSBA (February 2027 cohort) | 9 December 2026 | Alternative BSc entry for Indian applicants missing the November window |
| Next Global MBA cycle (July 2027 intake) | Expected November 2026 opening on a rolling basis, no fixed close | Track london.ac.uk/applications for the exact open date |
| Other Worldwide programmes | Rolling; varies by course | Verify at london.ac.uk/applications |
Planning note: Because the university bills modules individually, missing an October window is not the end of the road. Indian applicants can register in April or May and still finish inside the standard 2-year window for most PG programmes.

University of London Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2026
Academic thresholds are set by the directing member institution (LSE, Goldsmiths, Royal Holloway) rather than by a central UoL rule, so Indian applicants should check the per-programme prospectus. The high-level requirements below apply to most Band A applicants from India.
Postgraduate Requirements
- Academic: UK second-class Bachelor’s, equivalent to 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended) in a relevant subject for MSc programmes
- English Test: IELTS 6.5 overall (7.0 for Law and MBA in some cases); TOEFL iBT 87 overall with 21 in Reading/Writing and 19 in Speaking/Listening (0-120 scale, verify current scale at london.ac.uk); PTE Academic 54; Password test 6.0 overall with 5.5 sub-scores
- Global MBA specific: Age 24+, Bachelor’s plus 3 years managerial experience; alternative entry via 5 years managerial experience without a degree
- Credential verification: Uploaded via the london.ac.uk applications portal; no external WES route required
Undergraduate Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 (CBSE, ISC or state board) with 70% or above (recommended); age 17+ by the registration deadline
- English Test: IELTS 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each sub-score, or TOEFL iBT 87 (0-120 scale)
Key insight: The English-language requirement is waived for Indian applicants who completed a prior degree taught in English or hold English-medium work experience at a recognised employer, so most engineering and commerce graduates from India bypass IELTS entirely.
University of London Acceptance Rate 2026
The University of London does not publish a formal institutional acceptance rate, since admissions are managed programme by programme across the federation. Cross-source estimates place the overall Worldwide admit rate at 63% (estimated), meaning roughly two in three eligible applicants receive an offer for a central Worldwide programme.
Selectivity is meaningfully higher on LSE-directed programmes such as MSc Data Science and MSc Finance, and lower on modular certificates. The Global MBA is competitive on managerial-experience quality rather than volume, so admit rates fluctuate by intake.
Reality check: A 63% headline rate does not mean weak selection. LSE-directed programmes still expect a 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 undergraduate profile, and the Global MBA rejects Indian applicants who cannot document 3 years of clear managerial (not just team) experience.

University of London Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2026
Total programme cost for an Indian applicant sits inside a £10,478 to £21,829 (₹13.37 to 28.86 Lakh) range across the flagship Worldwide programmes, before 18% GST. Because delivery is online, there is no UK living-cost component for students who study from India.
University of London Tuition Fees for Indian Students 2026
The table below shows total programme fees at 2026/27 Band A rates. GST at 18% is added by the university at each billing cycle for Indian residents.
| Programme | Total Fee (GBP) | Total Fee (INR Lakh) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global MBA | £13,697 | ₹17.48 Lakh | Band A rate; 18% GST added at billing |
| MSc Data Science | £10,478 | ₹13.37 Lakh | Band A rate; LSE-directed |
| BSc Computer Science | £14,666 to £21,829 | ₹18.72 to 28.86 Lakh | Range reflects standard to slower module pace |
| Application Fee (Global MBA) | £65 | ₹8,300 | One-time; other programmes vary |
[Source: University of London Worldwide fee schedule 2026/27]
Study-From-India Cost Context
Indian students who complete the programme entirely online do not pay UK rent, transport or food costs. The only additional India-side expense is the optional in-person examination fee charged by study-in-UK partner British Council centres, typically £75 to £125 per exam sitting (₹9,500 to 16,000). Registration, module and course fees are the only mandatory outlays beyond exam charges and GST.
Insider note: The 18% GST is charged as a separate line on each invoice, so a £13,697 Global MBA actually costs ₹20.63 Lakh once GST is added. Factor this in before committing.

University of London Campus, Facilities and Student Life
The central Worldwide body operates from Senate House in Bloomsbury, London, but the primary experience for Indian applicants is delivered fully online through a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). There is no residential campus requirement.
- Learning platform: Coursera-hosted VLE with recorded lectures, live tutorials, peer forums and case studies; accessible from India with no VPN
- Digital library: Senate House Library Online with 3 million+ e-resources, plus JSTOR, EBSCO and programme-specific databases
- Exam centres: British Council venues in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and 20+ other Indian cities
- Learner support: Programme tutors, online office hours in India-friendly time slots, plus a dedicated South Asia advising desk
- Indian community: Active WhatsApp and LinkedIn cohorts for Global MBA and MSc Data Science, with local Indian meet-ups in tier-1 cities
What Indian students say: The live LSE tutorial sessions run in the UK evening (India late night), so working professionals record and review them the next morning. The programme is designed to survive missed live sessions, which matters for Indian time-zone applicants.
University of London Scholarships 2026
The University of London Worldwide keeps its own scholarship pool small on purpose, because the standard Band A tuition is already priced below most UK on-campus fees. Indian applicants typically combine one internal partial fee reduction with an external government scholarship, most commonly Chevening.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Course-specific fee waivers (Worldwide) | Partial (internal) | Varies by programme; verify at official page | Confirmed after conditional offer | Rolling |
| Chevening Scholarship (external, UK government) | Full | Full tuition plus stipend; typically £30,000+ (₹38.29 Lakh+) | Indian mid-career professionals; 2 years work experience; leadership potential | November each year |
[Source: University of London Worldwide funding page; UK FCDO Chevening]
Planning note: Chevening awards are tenable at University of London Worldwide programmes but funding is competitive. Apply 11 to 12 months before your intended UoL start, and secure your UoL conditional offer in parallel to strengthen the Chevening file.

University of London Rankings 2027
The University of London is not ranked as a single entity by QS, THE, US News or ARWU, because it is a federation of 17 autonomous member institutions. Rankings apply to each member individually. The three most prominent members carry the following global positions.
| Member Institution | QS World 2027 | THE World 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| University College London (UCL) | #9 | #22 |
| London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) | #50 | #46 |
| King’s College London (KCL) | #40 | #38 |
[Source: QS, THE]
On subject rankings, LSE holds top-10 positions worldwide in Economics, Politics and Social Policy in QS 2027, which is the direct academic direction behind the MSc Data Science and MSc Finance Worldwide programmes.
Key insight: Because the Worldwide certificate names the directing member institution (LSE, UCL, Goldsmiths), Indian employers and Indian PhD admissions committees evaluate the credential against that member’s global rank, not the federation as a whole.

University of London Placements and Career Outcomes 2026
Because Worldwide programmes are distance-first, the University of London does not run centralised on-campus placement drives. Career value comes from the identical-credential status of the degree and from access to member-institution alumni networks.
- Degree recognition: Certificate is identical to the on-campus award from the directing member institution (LSE, UCL, Goldsmiths, Royal Holloway)
- Career service: UoL Global Careers Service offers online CV reviews, mock interviews and virtual employer sessions
- Post-study visa: Distance graduates who study from India do not qualify for the UK Graduate Route; the visa applies only to on-campus study in the UK
- Indian employer recognition: Widely accepted for MBA and Law career progression at Indian corporates, MNCs and Big 4 firms
- Alumni access: Federation-wide alumni network spanning 190+ countries, with active India chapters in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru
Insider note: Indian recruiters consistently value the on-campus name of the directing member institution more than the delivery mode. A Global MBA certificate reading University of London (Worldwide) with LSE academic direction competes fairly with on-campus UK MBAs at Indian hiring reviews.
University of London vs Peer Universities
The University of London Worldwide competes against other distance-first providers, not against traditional on-campus UK universities. The table below groups its closest peers by delivery mode and price point.
| University | QS World Rank 2027 | Avg Total PG Fee (INR) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of London (Worldwide) | Federated; UCL #9, KCL #40, LSE #50 | ₹13.37 to 17.48 Lakh | Federation model with LSE, UCL, Goldsmiths academic direction |
| The Open University (UK) | Not ranked in QS top 500 | ₹15 to 20 Lakh (estimated) | Largest UK distance-only provider; wider modular flexibility |
| University of Edinburgh (Online) | Top 30 globally in QS 2027 | ₹30 Lakh+ (estimated) | Higher-ranked; premium priced online masters |
| Coventry University (Online) | Outside QS top 500 | ₹10 to 15 Lakh (estimated) | Lower price with broad taught-online course range |
The University of London stands out because its Worldwide degree is written and awarded by member institutions ranked inside the QS world top 50. No other distance-first UK provider carries that level of directing-institution rank at a sub-₹18 Lakh total fee.
The federation model also gives Indian students module-level choice from LSE, UCL and Goldsmiths curricula, which is not replicable at any single-brand distance university.
The University of London Worldwide suits Indian working professionals who need a globally recognised MBA or MSc for ₹13 to 18 Lakh total, want to stay in current employment in India, and value LSE-level academic direction over an on-campus experience. The Global MBA return on investment is strong when the total fee sits at roughly one-fifth of an equivalent UK on-campus MBA and the certificate is identical.
It is a poor fit for applicants who specifically need the UK Graduate Route work visa, or who want a residential-campus experience with in-person peer immersion. Those applicants are better served by an on-campus programme at UCL, KCL or the University of Edinburgh, applied for directly.
University of London FAQs
Ques. What English tests does the University of London accept for Indian applicants?
Ans. The University of London accepts IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic and the Password test for Indian applicants. The IELTS minimum is 6.0 overall for undergraduate entry and 6.5 overall for postgraduate entry, with 7.0 for Law and MBA in some cases. TOEFL iBT requires 87 overall with 21 in Reading/Writing and 19 in Speaking/Listening on the 0-120 scale, and PTE Academic requires 54.
Ques. How is 18% GST applied to University of London fees for Indian residents?
Ans. The University of London adds 18% GST as a separate line on every registration, module and course-fee invoice issued to Indian residents. GST is not included in the published Band A tuition. A £13,697 Global MBA therefore reaches roughly ₹20.63 Lakh once GST is added on top of the base ₹17.48 Lakh tuition. The tax is paid in the same billing transaction as the module fee.
Ques. Can Indian students take University of London exams from India?
Ans. Yes. Optional in-person examinations are held at British Council centres across 25+ Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Some Worldwide programmes also offer online-proctored exam alternatives. Indian candidates pay a per-sitting fee of £75 to £125 (₹9,500 to 16,000) directly to the exam centre, which sits on top of the university tuition.
Ques. Which programmes at the University of London offer a January intake?
Ans. The Global MBA, MSc Data Science, MSc Finance and several LLM specialisations accept January starts under the Worldwide model. The BSc Data Science and Business Analytics runs its own November and February cohorts instead. Indian applicants who miss the primary October intake can register in January, April or May and still complete the standard PG programme inside the 2-year minimum window.
Ques. Does the University of London accept Class 12 CBSE with 70% for undergraduate entry?
Ans. Yes. Indian applicants with Class 12 CBSE, ISC or state-board results at 70% or above are treated as meeting the standard UG entry route for most Worldwide bachelors, subject to age 17+ at registration. Mathematics is required for BSc Data Science, BSc Computer Science and BSc Economics. Applicants below 70% may still qualify through the university’s Performance-Based Admission route.
Ques. How does the University of London Global MBA compare to on-campus MBAs in India?
Ans. The Global MBA costs ₹17.48 Lakh in base tuition, comparable to a tier-2 Indian MBA and well below tier-1 IIM PGP fees. It is delivered fully online, so candidates keep their India-based salary during study. The degree is issued by the University of London and recognised by MNCs, Big 4 firms and Indian corporates for lateral moves at manager and senior-manager grades.
Ques. Are education loans from Indian banks available for University of London online programmes?
Ans. Most Indian public-sector banks fund on-campus overseas study first, and online-only programmes sit in a grey zone. SBI, Bank of Baroda and Canara Bank consider University of London Worldwide loans case-by-case, usually as a domestic-style education loan rather than a Scheme for Studies Abroad loan. Private lenders such as HDFC Credila and Avanse fund Worldwide programmes more readily, subject to income and collateral checks.
Ques. What documents does the University of London require for credential verification?
Ans. Indian applicants upload Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, degree transcripts, degree certificate, passport bio-page, English-language proof or waiver evidence and a CV directly through the london.ac.uk applications portal. Global MBA candidates also submit an employer letter confirming 3 years of managerial experience. No external WES or apostille route is required; the university verifies documents in-house.

- Primary reason was London as a location. It also aligned well with my post MBA career goal of working in finance.
- I really like how diverse the school is in terms of race, geography, ethnicity, professional background, personal aspiration. It truly is a global business school, where people from around the world with common goals come together and have a blast!
Dislikes
- Something I dislike about LBS is the cost of attendance. On top of the tuition fee, expect to spend another 50% to cover your living expenses. London is an expensive place. Food, travel, accommodation everything is super expensive and it all adds up!
Overview
Overall, I had a great experience. Wanted to expand my network, get a degree from top business school, and learn broader topic areas from the best faculty in the world. I can confidently say that LBS has exceeded my expectations and beyond.
Campus Life
Plenty of active clubs and activities to participate and engage with whatever your interest area is, there is club for you to get involved and contribute.
Overview
It's simplicity and the environment that supports students friendliness coupled with their track record of academic achievements. My experience at the College is outstanding, great, and one filled with fun.
Campus Life
The WiFi is top notch, libraries are incredibly helpful and the sport, recreational facilities makes everything great.
Overview
I choose my university because it had the perfect blend of theory and practice for the degree that I desired. while researching universities I realized that the University also would give me a large number of opportunities to participate in activities and collaborate on projects with companies that help to broadcast my skills.
Campus Life
As my university is campus-based, all students are able to make the most of campus life. The library is at the center of the campus and is accessible 24/7.
