University of Hull offers multiple scholarships and fee waivers for Indian students across UG, PG and PhD study, with the strongest general tuition discounts concentrated at the postgraduate level. Indian UG applicants can receive a £2,000 (₹2.57 Lakhs) annual fee waiver, while eligible PGT students can access discounts of up to £5,000 (₹6.43 Lakhs). Doctoral applicants can also explore fully funded routes through the Aura CDT and Commonwealth PhD Scholarships.

  • UG funding: The International Undergraduate Fee Waiver provides £2,000 (₹2.57 Lakhs) per year, while eligible student athletes can access sports scholarships offering up to 100% tuition support.
  • PG funding: Indian students can access the £2,000 (₹2.57 Lakhs) Asia Studentship, South Asia fee waivers of up to £5,000 (₹6.43 Lakhs), and the £5,000 (₹6.43 Lakhs) September 2026 Master’s Fee Waiver.
  • PhD funding: The Aura CDT offers full tuition plus a UKRI-rate stipend, while Commonwealth PhD Scholarships can cover tuition, living costs and travel for eligible Indian researchers.
  • External funding: Chevening and Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships provide full tuition, living support and travel for successful Indian applicants targeting Hull.
  • Next actionable deadline: Chevening closes 6 October 2026 for September 2027 entry, while most Hull university scholarships are automatic or tied to programme enrolment rather than a separate scholarship deadline.

University of Hull Scholarships for UG Students

For 2026/27, the University of Hull offers three key undergraduate funding routes for international students, including Indian applicants. The general International Undergraduate Fee Waiver provides £2,000 (₹2.57 Lakhs) per year, while sports-focused awards can offer substantially higher tuition support of up to 100% for eligible athletes.

Scholarship / Award Value Eligibility for Indian Students Application Deadline / Cycle
International Undergraduate Fee Waiver £2,000 (INR 2.57 lakh) per year Indian nationals with international fee status studying a full-time undergraduate programme at Hull’s main campus. Not available during Study Abroad or Industry sandwich years. Automatic; no separate application required Applies to eligible 2026/27 entrants; no separate scholarship deadline stated
Rugby League Scholarship 20%–100% tuition fee waiver for 3 years + tailored financial support of £250–£500

University of Hull Scholarships for PG Students

For 2026/27, the University of Hull offers multiple postgraduate funding routes for Indian students, with tuition discounts ranging from £2,000 to £5,000 (₹2.57 to ₹6.43 Lakhs) across eligible programmes. The strongest general routes are the South Asia PGT Fee Waiver and the £5,000 September 2026 Master’s Fee Waiver, while the Asia Studentship provides an additional £2,000 annual discount for eligible Indian PGT students.

Scholarship Amount Eligibility How to Apply
University of Hull Asia Studentship £2,000 tuition discount per year of study
(INR 2.57 Lakhs)
Postgraduate taught students from 17 low or lower-middle income countries, including India Automatic; no separate form required
PGT International Fee Waiver (South Asia) Up to £2,000 – 5,000
(INR 2.57 – 6.43 Lakhs)
Self-funded PGT students from South Asia
(India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan) and Sub-Saharan Africa
Automatic on enrolment against most Master's programmes
Global Masters Fund 2026-27 £1,000 (INR 1.29 Lakhs), 20 awards PGT students from upper-middle or high-income World Bank countries
(India NOT currently classified as eligible; verify country status)
Personal statement of 300 to 400 words after offer acceptance
Automatic Sep 2026 Masters Fee Waiver £5,000
(INR 6.43 Lakhs)
Indian applicants confirmed on eligible full-time PGT programmes starting September 2026 Automatic; applied to first-year invoice

Reddit Insight: Indian students in the r/UKUniversity community note that Hull enforces a strict "one financial award only" rule at PGT level, so the Asia Studentship and Global Masters Fund cannot both be held; combine the Asia Studentship with the separate PGT fee waiver instead, since these operate as parallel discounts, not scholarships.

University of Hull PhD Scholarships

Doctoral funding at Hull comes through two main routes: the Aura Centre for Doctoral Training and the Commonwealth PhD Scholarships. Both are competitive and require project alignment, so Indian applicants should build supervisor contact into their timeline.

Scholarship Amount Eligibility
Aura CDT Doctoral Scholarship Full tuition plus stipend at UKRI rate
(approx. £19,237 / INR 24.75 Lakhs per year, tentative)
UK, EU and limited international candidates; offshore wind and renewable energy research focus
Commonwealth PhD Scholarships
(Hull as host)
Full tuition, monthly stipend up to £1,652 (INR 2.13 Lakhs), airfare, thesis allowance Commonwealth citizens including Indian nationals; research alignment with a Hull supervisor
Self-Funded PhD International Fee Discount Variable; capped at approx. £2,000 (INR 2.57 Lakhs) per year on select doctoral programmes Self-funded international doctoral candidates

Applications for Master’s programmes are best submitted early on the standard Hull admissions timeline to lock the September 2026 window before the waiver expires.

External Government Scholarships for University of Hull Applicants

Indian students can layer a UK government or India government scholarship on top of a Hull automatic waiver, provided the external funder allows it. The three most relevant routes for Hull-bound applicants are below.

Scholarship Funder Award Deadline (2027 entry cycle) Key Criterion
Chevening Scholarship UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Full tuition + monthly living stipend + travel; total value approximately £50,000
(INR 64.00 Lakhs)
6 October 2026, 16:30 IST 2,800 hours of post-graduation work experience and a 2:1 equivalent bachelor’s
Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (UK) Full fees, return airfare, monthly stipend of £1,781 (INR 2.28 Lakhs) in London Tentative mid-October 2026 via SAKSHAT and CSC portals Demonstrated financial need; no prior UK Master’s; return-to-India commitment

Reddit Insight: Chevening applicants targeting Hull often report that the university’s mid-tier position is not a disadvantage in shortlisting; the FCDO panel scores personal statement quality and leadership evidence far higher than the destination university’s global rank, so Hull applicants clear the same interview rate as top UK research applicants when application quality is equal.

For applicants who miss Chevening, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship uses the same nomination portal and shares a similar timeline. Both cover living costs in Kingston upon Hull comfortably, since city rents run 30 to 40% lower than London.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. Do University of Hull scholarships require a separate application, or are they automatic?

Ans. Most India-relevant awards at Hull apply automatically. The Asia Studentship, South Asia UG discount, PGT International Fee Waiver, and September 2026 Masters waiver are all applied at the offer or enrolment stage without any form. The Fairer Future Global Scholarship, Global Masters Fund, and all external government awards (Chevening, Commonwealth) require separate essay-based applications after you hold a Hull offer.

Ques. What academic threshold do Indian students need for University of Hull merit scholarships?

Ans. For merit-based awards like the Fairer Future Global Scholarship, Hull expects an equivalent of a UK 2:1 undergraduate degree, which maps to a 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale for Indian applicants. The George W Gray Chemistry Scholarship requires 112 UCAS equivalent points plus a 60% pass on Hull’s chemistry aptitude test. Automatic waivers do not carry a separate GPA threshold beyond the standard programme entry requirement.

Ques. Does the University of Hull Asia Studentship cover living costs in Kingston upon Hull?

Ans. No, the Asia Studentship is a £2,000 (INR 2.57 Lakhs) tuition fee discount only, applied against your invoice each year of study. It does not include accommodation, food, transport, or personal expenses. Kingston upon Hull is one of the more affordable UK student cities, with rents in shared student housing typically £400 to £550 per month (INR 51,452 to INR 70,747), so the studentship offsets roughly four months of rent when read as an equivalent living-cost credit.

Ques. Can Indian PhD applicants get full funding at University of Hull?

Ans. Yes, through two main routes. The Commonwealth PhD Scholarship covers full tuition, monthly stipend up to £1,652 (INR 2.13 Lakhs), return airfare, and thesis allowance for Indian nationals nominated through the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The Aura CDT covers tuition and a UKRI-rate stipend of approximately £19,237 (INR 24.75 Lakhs) per year for a limited number of international candidates working on offshore wind and renewable energy research.

Scholarship

  • There are different scholarships available for the master's, but I did not get one. I know one of my friends ' friends who got a scholarship of 10000 pounds, but this kind of scholarship was given to a very limited number of students. I think for the master's 5 students who get the scholarship every year, the amount can be different then the above-mentioned one.

  • I used an online platform to find the accommodation. The monthly rent was 350 pounds.
  • STUDENTS might need a guarantor to rent a property.
  • Future students can see the online platform to rent. It will be easy and affordable.
  • The university was only a walkable distance from my accommodation. Hardly 500 meters away.
  • Most of the Indian students live nearby to the campus.

Scholarship

  • No scholarship received from the college as such. Everything was from my personal expenses and it was a great experience looking back and am happy to have made a great decision to join the university.
  • There were no other financial aid services provided to me by the college administration and as such things were quiet smooth and running effectively.

  • There is on campus accommodation at Singh residency in the university itself.
  • It's a building close by with the premises of the university.
  • Rent and everything was preincluded in the tution fees itself so it was really easy and smooth process
  • I would very much recommend this to the new joiners or future students as everything was convenient and they even had a mall and grocery store within the premises.

Scholarship

  • No, there wasn't any scholarship for the program. The program was open to applicants with commonwealth scholarships and stuff like that which home countries' governments pay. for, but I didn't see any of my classmates on scholarship or grants.
  • There is no TA/RA system in Europe and UK for master's hence there isn't a part time earning from university. The department will post voluntary paid work but that is only for specific weeks or days so that can't be relied upon as a regular source of income.

  • I took the on campus accommodation since I didn't trust external websites being in India for the UK. The annual fees for my accommodation was 8500 GBP which was fairly reasonable for the amenities included as wifi, electricity and water bills were all inclusive. Furthermore I got a good blend of people from different courses sharing the same kitchen so had a good chance to network alongside and relax after a days of study.
  • Most Indian students stayed off campus as it was relatively cheaper but then again they missed out on the opportunity to network and build friendships with people from all across the world. There are certain student accommodation letting agents once in town, people directly used them to secure off campus accommodation

  • Yes, again, online platforms are the best way to get good accommodation or word of mouth.
  • I used Unicom accommodations. They are pretty decent and good service. Would recommend them. Challenges is the service they offer after you get the accommodation.
  • Finding one is not that hard; there are multiple agencies that would help you.
