University of Leicester admissions accept UCAS undergraduate applications for 2027 entry (Class XII pass around 75 to 80 percent for most courses) and rolling postgraduate applications for taught masters (a UK 2:1 honours degree, roughly 60 to 65 percent in an Indian Bachelor’s).

  • Next live deadline: UCAS equal-consideration cutoff for the September 2027 intake is 14 January 2027, 6pm UK time (11:30pm IST); Medicine (A100) has an earlier hard deadline of 15 October 2026.
  • Base tuition and application fees: Overseas base tuition ranges from £20,200 to £30,150 a year (INR 26.10 to 38.95 Lakhs); the UCAS 2027 undergraduate fee is £34.50 (INR 4,457) and the Leicester postgraduate application fee is £50 (INR 6,460).
  • Eligibility floor: UG entry expects Class XII at 75 to 80 percent with subject-specific higher marks, PG entry expects a Bachelor’s at 60 percent or above (UK 2:1); English floor is IELTS 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each band.
  • Acceptance rate: Estimated at 70 to 75 percent, based on published intake competitiveness across taught programs; the university does not publish an official institutional figure.

Popular choices among Indian applicants at the University of Leicester include MSc Advanced Computer Science, MSc Cloud Computing, MSc Management, MSc Space Science and Engineering, and MBBS (highly restricted for international entry). Indian student reviews highlight strong space and computer science research links, industry placement support, and the small-city cost profile compared with London universities.

Admission Status: Closing Soon. UCAS applications for the University of Leicester’s primary September 2027 intake opened on 1 September 2026 through the UCAS 2027 cycle and close at the equal-consideration deadline of 14 January 2027, 6pm UK time. Medicine (course code A100) has an earlier hard cut-off on 15 October 2026. Postgraduate taught applications for the January 2027 and September 2027 intakes remain open on rolling review through the University of Leicester online applicant portal. Application fees: UCAS charges £34.50 (INR 4,457) for the 2027 undergraduate cycle; the Leicester postgraduate fee is £50 (INR 6,460) for international applicants.

University of Leicester Application Deadlines for Indian Students

The University of Leicester’s primary intake for Indian students is September (Autumn) — most Bachelor’s and taught Master’s programs open here. Dates above are drawn from the Leicester UG key dates page and the UCAS 2027 entry event pages.

Eligibility for the University of Leicester for Indian Students

Leicester translates Indian qualifications into UK equivalents at both entry levels. Academic thresholds are read from Class XII marksheets for Bachelor’s applicants and from Bachelor’s transcripts (three-year and four-year degrees are both accepted) for Master’s applicants. The English section applies to every course that is not taught in an English-medium waiver country.

  • UG general entry: Class XII from CBSE, CISCE or a recognised state board at 75 percent overall for most courses.
  • UG competitive courses: Class XII at 80 percent or above overall, with 85 percent in subjects relevant to the degree (for example Mathematics for Computer Science).
  • PG 2:1 equivalence: Bachelor’s at 60 to 65 percent, or a CGPA of 6.0 out of 10 and above (equal to a UK upper second class).
  • PG 2:2 equivalence: Bachelor’s at 55 to 60 percent, accepted for a smaller list of taught Master’s programs.
  • MBBS: International places are extremely limited; Class XII at 85 percent in Chemistry, Biology and one other academic subject, plus UCAT.

Accepted English Tests and Minimum Scores

Leicester lists a common institutional English floor and per-program floors on each course page. The band below is the institution-wide minimum for programs that ask for the standard IELTS 6.5 grade.

Leicester IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

The English requirement is waivable for Indian applicants in three routes: (1) Class XII English at 70 to 80 percent from an English-medium CBSE, CISCE or approved state board (accepted as an IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 equivalent for many courses); (2) an undergraduate degree taught in English from an approved institution — the Leicester India page lists Anna University, Bangalore University, University of Delhi, IITs, IIMs, University of Madras, Mumbai University and Pune University among the qualifying awarding bodies; (3) secondary schooling completed in a country listed by Leicester as English-medium. Waivers are decided by the admissions team on a per-application basis, so upload your Class XII marksheet or Bachelor’s transcript with the initial application.

Insider note: Even where the waiver is accepted at admissions, the UK Home Office may still ask for IELTS UKVI at the visa stage if English proficiency is not evidenced in the CAS. Book an IELTS UKVI slot before your CAS is issued if you are relying on Class XII English alone.

University of Leicester Postgraduate Programs and English Scores

Postgraduate taught Master’s at Leicester runs one-year full-time (12 months, September to September) with two-year "with Industry" pathways in Computer Science and Engineering. Leicester MBA Admissions and GMAT Policy

The Leicester Global MBA is an AMBA-accredited part-time distance-learning MBA lasting 2 to 2.5 years. Indian applicants studying in-country do not need a Student visa for the Global MBA because the course is fully online; applicants who want an on-campus, one-year, full-time management degree at Leicester should read the MSc Management row in the postgraduate table above.

Global MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants

Leicester lists three admission routes for the Global MBA:

  • Standard entry: UK 2:1 Bachelor’s (60% or above in an Indian degree) in any discipline, plus at least three years of work experience.
  • Executive entry with essay and interview: Applicants without the standard degree who have five years or more of managerial or supervisory work may enter by writing a 400-word admissions essay and completing an admissions interview.
  • GMAT alternative: A GMAT score of 550 or above, taken in the last five years, is accepted in place of the admissions essay.

Planning note: The distance-learning format means Indian professionals can continue working in India while enrolled. Fees are billed per module rather than as a single tuition figure — check the module-based price on the Leicester School of Business page before enrolling.

Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and cohort intake dates may differ from the summary above. Always confirm on the official Leicester School of Business page for the Global MBA before applying.

University of Leicester PhD Admissions and Funding

Doctoral study at Leicester runs through the Doctoral College. Applications are rolling and are decided by fit with an academic supervisor and by the availability of a funded studentship. Fully-funded studentships attached to UKRI Doctoral Training Partnerships carry a full stipend of £19,237 a year (INR 24.85 Lakhs) for 3.5 years plus tuition and a research training grant for the 2025-26 academic year; some departmental studentships pay a lower stipend of £13,863 (INR 17.91 Lakhs) with a £750 training grant.

Steps for a PhD Application at Leicester

  • Identify a Leicester academic whose research aligns with your proposal and email a short summary before applying.
  • Draft a 1,500 to 2,000 word research proposal covering the research question, methods and timeline.
  • Submit the online PhD application with two academic references, transcripts and IELTS.
  • Attend a supervisor interview (video call) and receive an offer that may be conditional on funding.

Insider note: The strongest funded routes for Indian applicants at Leicester are the MIDAS AI DTP (data science, physics), Wellcome-Leicester biomedical studentships, and Commonwealth PhD scholarships from the FCDO. Apply to both the university and the studentship route in parallel — the studentship deadlines are earlier than the general Doctoral College review.

Program-specific entry requirements, stipends, and funded studentship calendars may differ from the summary above. Always confirm on the official Leicester funded opportunities page before applying.

University of Leicester Application Process for Indian Students

Undergraduate applications go through the UCAS Hub (the central UK undergraduate application service) and postgraduate applications go through the Leicester online applicant portal. The steps below cover both routes for Indian students applying to the September 2027 intake.

  1. Register on UCAS or the Leicester portal. The UCAS 2027 cycle opened on 1 September 2026 for undergraduate applicants; postgraduate applicants create an account directly on the University of Leicester portal.
  2. Pay the application fee. UCAS charges a single fee of £34.50 (INR 4,457) for the whole 2027 undergraduate cycle regardless of how many of the five choices you use; the Leicester postgraduate application fee is £50 (INR 6,460), collected through the Leicester online applicant portal.
  3. Upload academic transcripts. Class XII marksheet for UG, Bachelor’s marksheet and provisional or final degree certificate for PG.
  4. Submit your personal statement. One statement of up to 4,000 characters through UCAS, or a 500 to 700 word statement of purpose for postgraduate courses.
  5. Add references. UCAS requires one academic reference; PG applications ask for two.
  6. Send English test scores. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE or Duolingo scores from a test taken within the last two years — or claim an Indian-qualification waiver if you meet the Class XII English or awarding-body pathway in Section 2.
  7. Receive and accept the offer. Undergraduate offers are issued via UCAS Hub; postgraduate offers are issued through the applicant portal within four to six weeks of a completed application.
  8. Pay the deposit and request CAS. Overseas offer holders pay a tuition deposit of £3,000 (INR 3.88 Lakhs) to secure their place, after which Leicester issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) needed for the visa.

Before you apply: UCAS lets you list five undergraduate choices for the same £34.50 (INR 4,457) fee, so Indian applicants usually pair Leicester with two or three UK universities at a similar acceptance profile and one aspirational choice.

Leicester Documents Required for Indian Students

Documents are uploaded as scans through UCAS or the Leicester portal; originals are checked at CAS issue. Keep certified English translations ready if any of your marksheets are in a regional language.

  • Passport bio page, valid for the full length of the course.
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate from CBSE, CISCE or a state board.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and provisional or final degree certificate for postgraduate applicants.
  • Statement of purpose (500 to 700 words for PG) or UCAS personal statement (4,000 characters for UG).
  • Two academic references on institutional letterhead for PG; one for UG.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE or Duolingo — dated within two years.
  • CV or resume covering academic and internship history (mandatory for MBA, MSc Management and PhD).
  • Work experience letters on company letterhead for MBA applicants using the executive-entry route.
  • Research proposal for PhD applicants (1,500 to 2,000 words).
  • Two passport-size photographs to the UKVI standard (35 mm x 45 mm, white background).

When Offer Decisions Land

Postgraduate decisions typically arrive within four to six weeks of a complete application. UCAS undergraduate decisions are released rolling through the cycle, with equal-consideration replies by late March 2027 for applications received by 14 January 2027. Conditional offers are common: the most frequent condition for Indian applicants is a final Bachelor’s transcript or a specific IELTS overall score. Leicester allows a deferral of up to one year in most taught programs if you request it in writing before the CAS is issued.

University of Leicester Acceptance Rate for Indian Applicants

The University of Leicester does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Estimates from published intake competitiveness data across taught programs place the overall acceptance rate at 70 to 75 percent, and Leicester is generally described as an access-oriented Russell Group-alternative research university — meaning it admits most applicants who clear its stated Class XII or Bachelor’s thresholds, rather than filtering aggressively on GPA or test score above the minimum.

Where Acceptance Rate Is Lower

MBBS Medicine (A100) is the sharpest exception: international places are capped at a very small share of the cohort and most applicants who clear the UCAT and 85 percent Class XII floor still do not receive an offer. LLB Law and MSc Management with Marketing also draw more applicants than the department admits in a typical cycle and effective admission rates sit closer to 40 to 50 percent within those programs.

How Rankings Frame the Read on Acceptance

Leicester sits in the QS World 314 ranking band for 2027, THE 192 for 2026, and 32nd in the UK on Collegedunia’s Study Abroad Ranking. That places it alongside universities that combine open access at institution level with sharp selectivity in a small number of flagship programs. Indian applicants tend to receive higher offer rates in the Computer Science, Space Science and Business programs than the institutional average, provided the Class XII or Bachelor’s threshold is cleared.

Reality check: A 70 to 75 percent acceptance rate does not translate to a 70 to 75 percent chance for any single applicant. Course-level cut-offs, English scores and personal-statement fit still drive individual outcomes, especially in Medicine, Law and quantitative Business masters.

UK Student Visa Process for Indian Students Studying at Leicester

Indian applicants to any Leicester on-campus course apply for the UK Student Route visa after receiving their unconditional offer and CAS from the university. The visa is filed online through the UK government portal (gov.uk); appointments and biometrics are booked at VFS Global centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Kochi, Jalandhar and Pune. Applications can be submitted up to six months before the course start date. The visa application fee is £558 (INR 72,088) for applications made from India; the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is £776 (INR 1.00 Lakh) per year of the course and is paid at the same online stage. Financial proof must cover the outstanding first-year tuition plus £1,136 per month (INR 1.47 Lakhs) in Leicester living costs for up to nine months (£10,224 or INR 13.21 Lakhs), held in your or your parent’s account for 28 consecutive days.

Along with the online form, you upload the CAS letter, passport bio page, bank statements showing the 28-day funds hold, academic transcripts, IELTS UKVI or equivalent, a TB test certificate from an IOM-approved Indian clinic, and consent letters if the funds are in your parent’s name. Once biometrics are done at VFS, decisions typically arrive in three weeks; premium processing is available. On arrival in Leicester, collect your Biometric Residence Permit within ten days and register with a GP through the university’s induction week.

2026 update: The UK Home Office continues to accept IELTS UKVI, TOEFL iBT (Special Home Edition and centre), PTE Academic UKVI, and Trinity SELT for the Student Route. The IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted by Leicester for admissions but is not accepted by UKVI for the visa itself, so keep a full four-skill IELTS UKVI on file.

University of Leicester Application Tips and Admissions Checklist

The tips and steps below are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Leicester over the last three admission cycles. They cover sequencing and timing rather than repeating the paperwork list from Section 8.

  • Book IELTS 12 to 16 weeks before your UCAS or portal deadline — Leicester accepts scores from up to two years old, so a January or February 2026 test is still valid for September 2027 entry and gives you a retake buffer.
  • Request Class XII and Bachelor’s transcripts 8 weeks in advance — Indian boards and universities can take three to six weeks to issue an attested transcript.
  • Draft the personal statement or SOP against Leicester’s course-page learning outcomes — mirror the technical language used on the specific course page rather than writing generically.
  • Apply to Leicester alongside two similar UK universities using the same UCAS £34.50 (INR 4,457) fee — a five-choice UCAS profile costs nothing extra and diversifies your offer risk.
  • Pay the £3,000 (INR 3.88 Lakhs) deposit within four weeks of the offer — Leicester only issues the CAS after the deposit clears, and CAS turnaround adds another five to seven working days.
  • Book your biometric slot at VFS the same week you receive your CAS — Delhi and Mumbai slots fill three to four weeks out during peak season (May to August).
  • Line up 28-day bank statements before your funds sit — the countdown starts from the closing balance date on your statement, not the day you deposited funds.
  • Register on the Leicester scholarships portal early — the Global Excellence and Vice-Chancellor’s awards close well before the intake and are reviewed on order of complete application.

Indian applicants who confirm their course, English score, and funding well before the UCAS or portal deadline give themselves the smoothest path from offer to CAS to visa; leaving any of these late is what typically pushes applicants from the September 2027 intake into a January 2028 deferral.

University of Leicester Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the minimum Class XII percentage for undergraduate admission at the University of Leicester?

Ans. Most undergraduate programs at Leicester ask for Class XII at 75 to 80 percent from CBSE, CISCE or a state board, with 85 percent in subjects relevant to the course (for example Mathematics for Computer Science). LLB Law and MBBS Medicine expect 85 percent overall.

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for a Master’s at Leicester?

Ans. The institution-wide IELTS floor for taught postgraduate programs is 6.5 overall with 5.5 in each component. LLB Law and Medicine expect IELTS 7.0. TOEFL iBT 88, PTE Academic 65 and Duolingo 115 are also accepted at the same level.

Ques. Does the University of Leicester offer an IELTS waiver for Indian students?

Ans. Yes. Indian applicants with Class XII English at 70 to 80 percent from an English-medium board, or with a Bachelor’s degree from an approved awarding institution (including IITs, IIMs, Anna, Delhi, Bangalore, Madras, Mumbai and Pune Universities), can request an English-language waiver at admissions. The visa office may still ask for IELTS UKVI at the CAS stage.

Ques. What are the University of Leicester application deadlines for the September 2027 intake?

Ans. The UCAS equal-consideration deadline for most undergraduate courses is 14 January 2027 at 6pm UK time; Medicine (A100) closes earlier on 15 October 2026. Postgraduate taught applications through the Leicester portal are on rolling review, with the recommended cut-off of 31 July 2027 for September 2027 entry.

Ques. What is the application fee at the University of Leicester?

Ans. Undergraduate applicants pay a single UCAS application fee of £34.50 (INR 4,457) for the 2027 entry cycle, which covers up to five course choices. International postgraduate applicants pay £50 (INR 6,460) on the Leicester online portal. PhD applications carry no separate application fee.

Ques. How competitive is admission to the University of Leicester for Indian students?

Ans. Leicester is estimated at a 70 to 75 percent institutional acceptance rate, based on competitive-intake program patterns; it does not publish an official figure. Applicants who clear the Class XII 75 to 80 percent or Bachelor’s 60 percent thresholds and meet the IELTS floor generally receive an offer, except in Medicine, Law and quantitative Business masters where course-level acceptance is much lower.

Ques. Does the University of Leicester require GMAT for its MBA?

Ans. GMAT is optional. Applicants to the Leicester Global MBA can enter with a UK 2:1 Bachelor’s plus three years of work, with a 400-word admissions essay and interview if they have five or more years of managerial experience, or with a GMAT score of 550 or above taken in the last five years.

Ques. When does the UCAS 2027 entry cycle open and close for Leicester undergraduates?

Ans. UCAS submissions for 2027 entry opened on 1 September 2026. The equal-consideration deadline for most Leicester UG courses is 14 January 2027 at 6pm UK time, and applications can continue through 30 June 2027 at 6pm UK time (subject to course availability) before entering Clearing.

Ques. What documents do Indian applicants need for a Leicester PG application?

Ans. Applicants need the passport bio page, Class XII marksheet, Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate (or provisional certificate), a 500 to 700 word statement of purpose, two academic references, an English test score, a CV, and — for MBA applicants using the executive route — work experience letters on company letterhead.

Ques. How long does the University of Leicester take to release admission decisions?

Ans. Postgraduate offers usually arrive within four to six weeks of a complete application on the Leicester portal. UCAS undergraduate offers are released rolling through the cycle, with all equal-consideration replies out by late March 2027 for applications received by 14 January 2027.

Ques. What is the tuition deposit for the University of Leicester and when is it paid?

Ans. Overseas offer holders pay a tuition deposit of £3,000 (INR 3.88 Lakhs) to secure their place, typically within four weeks of accepting the offer. The deposit is deducted from the first-year tuition invoice, and Leicester only issues the CAS once the deposit clears.

Ques. Can I defer my Leicester offer by one year?

Ans. Yes. Leicester allows a deferral of up to one year in most taught postgraduate and undergraduate programs, on written request before the CAS is issued. Medicine, Dentistry and some competitive Business masters are handled case by case and may require re-application.

Scholarship

  • I received a scholarship of around 3000 GBP based on my scores from my undergraduate. Almost everyone with more than 70 percent score from undergraduates can avail of this scholarship. My batchmates are offered different scholarships. There are students with Commonwealth scholarships in my class. Roughly about forty to fifty percent of my classmates are offered a scholarship.

Scholarship

  • I had received a scholarship, but is  directly reduced from my college fees ( around 4 lacs), so basically if we have  good scores in schools and college, it would apply directly.

  • Some of my batchmates received it, some didn't, so basically it all depends on our scores in our earlier academics

  • On average atleast 40% students will receive scholarship, as of my knowledge

Scholarship

  • 1. Yes, I've received scholarship for my course. Scholarship was kind of Merit Scholarship as my aggregate for graduation was above 65%, the whole fee was about £21,500 but after it was £16,800.
    2. Award amount was £4700.
3.Yeah most of people have one or other scholarship for sure but 20% people don't know and don't apply so they paid full fee because they missed one small information mostly people came from Punjab consultancies in Punjab state but from south most of the people utilised it.
    4. 70% receive and typical award amount will be around £4000 to £6000
