Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh is an autonomous university. It was established in the year 1962. It offers various courses under UG, PG and Research level in recognition with INC, MCI and UGC.

Selection to MD, MS and MDS House Job courses will be done on the basis of qualifying entrance test followed by personal counseling conducted by the university itself. The candidates who have done their MD or MS in the relevant field are eligible to apply for DM and M.Ch courses. The selection of applicants for DM and M.Ch will be made on the basis of the qualifying entrance exam and practical exam.

  • MBBS passed candidates are eligible to apply for MHA and MPH courses.
  • Candidates who have cleared B.Sc. in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks are eligible to apply for M.Sc and M.Sc (Nursing).
  • The selection of the candidates for MHA, MPH, M.Sc. will be made on the basis of the entrance test and their respective interview/counseling.
  • The minimum eligibility for Fellowship PGIs is MS or MD degree in the relevant discipline.
  • For PhD course, a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline with 55% marks is important.
  • The selection for Fellowship PGIs will be done on the basis of a theory exam followed by a practical exam.

PGIMER, Chandigarh B. Sc. & B. Ph.T. Admission 2021

The university offers B.Sc. and B.Ph.T courses at UG level. B.Sc. is provided to the candidates under eight specializations for the duration of 3 years, excluding Audiology & Speech Therapy and Nursing which are of 4 years each and Nursing (post basic) which is of 2 years duration.  The duration of Bachelor’s of Physical Therapies (B.Ph.T.) is of 4 ½ years which includes internship also.

The minimum qualification that is required by the university for both the Courses is of the passing of 12th standard in the relevant subject group from a recognized board. The selection of candidates for B.Sc. and B.Ph.T. will be done on the basis of qualifying entrance test conducted by the University itself.

Key Notes:

  • For applying in B.Sc. Nursing, minimum age of the applicant should be 17 years and the maximum age should be 25 years.
  • For applying in B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic), the candidate should have minimum three years of experience in bedside nursing or public health nursing in Central/State Govt. recognized hospital/institute. 
  • Candidates who will apply for B.Sc. Medical Animation and Audio?visual creation will not stand eligible to apply to any other course. 
  • The minimum qualifying marks in the entrance test for admission to any of the above courses is 50th percentile for General/Sponsored/Foreign candidates and for SC/ST/OBC & PWD candidates, it is 45th percentile.

PGIMER, Chandigarh MD, MS and MDS/House Job Admission 2021

PGIMER University, Chandigarh offers MD, MS and MDS to all the eligible candidates at postgraduate level. The duration of MD, MS and MDS is of three years. Admission to MD and MS courses are offered twice in a year, i.e., January and July whereas, the session of MDS starts only once a year i.e. July.

The minimum eligibility for MD and MS is MBBS or an equivalent degree. For applying to MDS/House Job, the candidates must have passed BDS from a recognized University.

The selection of the candidate under all the courses will be merit-based depending upon the marks obtained by the candidate in the Entrance Exam conducted by the University followed by personal counseling.

Key Notes:

  • Candidates who have cleared NEET PG exam will also be considered for selection to MD/MS courses.

  • The selection of the candidates for the post of House Job will be done for a period of six months which can be extended to maximum of one-year on the recommendation of the Head of the department.

  • Those candidates who have already done the House Job in any hospital or institution won’t stand eligible to apply in PGIMER, Chandigarh.
  • Under MDS and House job, the candidates who will obtain top ranks in the merit list will be offered MDS course and the candidates who will obtain lower ranks in the merit list will be considered for House Job. But if the candidate refuses to join the House job course, then he will still be kept in the waiting list of MDS.
  • For MDS/House Job, the candidate has to give a theory exam consisting of 100 questions of one mark each. The duration of the test will be of 90 minutes. There will be no practical/clinical exam in it. For being qualified for taking admission, the candidate must secure at least 50 percentile (general category) in the theory exam.

The University also offers DM in 23 specializations and M.Ch. in six specializations for the duration of three years. The minimum eligibility for DM is MD in the respective discipline and for M.Ch the candidates must have done MS in the relevant field. PGIMER University, Chandigarh MHA, MPH & M.Sc. Admission 2021

The university also offers full-time MHA, MPH and M.Sc courses at PG level for the duration of two years. MBBS degree or an equivalent qualification recognized by MCI with three years of experience is the minimum eligibility criteria for MHA. For MPH, the candidates must have MBBS/BDS/B.V.Sc./BE/MA/M.Sc. degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.

For M.Sc, the candidates should have done B.Sc. in the respective field. For M.Sc (Nursing), the candidate must have B.Sc. Nursing/ B.Sc. Nursing (Post-Basic) with minimum 55% marks in aggregate.

The selection of the candidate for MHA will take place on the marks obtained by the candidate in the Entrance Exam followed by Counseling or Interview conducted by the university whereas, for MPH, the candidate will be given admission on the basis of marks in Theory exam followed by viva voice.

The university offers Fellowship PGIs and Ph.D. at the research level. Ph.D. admissions are offered in two sessions, namely, January and July. The minimum requirement for a candidate to apply in any of the courses offered under Fellowship PGIs and post-doctoral fellowship PGI is MS/MD/M.Ch. degree in the relevant discipline or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).   • For Fellowship PGI, the candidates should have also completed 2 years of Senior Residency.
  • The selection of the candidate under Fellowship PGI and Post-doctoral fellowship PGI is through a two-step process. Initially, there will be a theory exam followed by a practical exam. The theory paper will consist of two parts; General (part-1) and Specialty (part-2) of 30 marks each. The practical examination will be of 40 marks.

Theory Exam: Part 1 will have 30 multiple choice questions from MD/MS/DM/M.Ch. level. Part 2 will have 30 multiple choice questions related to Fellowship PGI & Post-doctoral PGI, and each question will have 4 options with one right answer. Total time available for theory paper will be 60 minutes. 1 mark will be given for each right answer and 0.25 will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Practical exam: For a candidate to qualify the practical examination, minimum of 30 marks in the Theory examination are required. A candidate must obtain at least 50 marks (out of 100) for being eligible to appear for the final interview round before the Selection Committee.

PGIMER University, Chandigarh Application Process 2021

All the applicants who want to apply to any of the courses offered by the university can do so by applying for the course online and paying the fees in the offline mode. Following is the procedure for doing the same:

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Click on the online application form available on the PGI website.
  3. Fill all the details correctly.
  4. Take a print out of the form and make the payment of the fees through challan form (Triplicate) in any branch of SBI by the name “Power Jyoti” PUL current account of PGIMER. The Account Number of it is 32211613319.
  5. The candidates with SBI account can also pay their fees through I-Collect service No. 32222954695.
  6. No other mode of payment like Demand Draft, Banker Cheque, Money Order, Postal Order, etc. will be accepted for making the payment.
  7. The application fees for all the courses under general category is INR 1000 and for SC/ST candidates it is INR 800 (except for MD/M.Ch. which is INR 1000 for all the categories).

Note: Foreign nationals who want to apply for any of the courses offered by the university can do so by filling the application form online and sending it via Ministry of Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. They will be required to take the entrance exam and they will be selected on the basis of the common merit list prepared by the university. There will be no separate merit list prepared for such candidates.

Ques. How can I prepare for PG course admission at PGIMER?

Ans. For cracking the entrance, it is suggested to the aspirants to study for a minimum of 10 hrs daily. In order to complete all subjects thoroughly study and revise all for 7-8 Months. It is also required to practice mock test papers frequently to understand the progress level.

Ques. Is PGIMER recognized by MCI?

Ans. Yes, the institute is recognized by MCI. The degrees are directly awarded to the student by PGIMER, and the central government funds it.

Ques. Is the schedule of Junior residents at Ophthalmology in PGIMER hectic?

Ans. It is less hectic as compared to other departments. On weekdays, residents get free by 4 PM and sometimes midnight. Weekly basis 2 hr emergency shifts are hectic. On Sundays, the duty remains for just 2-3 hrs. Morning lectures by top facilities are scheduled at 7.30 AM.

Ques. Can MD/MS entrance at PGIMER be cracked at first attempt?

Ans. yes, it can be cracked at the first attempt. The aspirants need to prepare for a minimum of 6 months for the sole purpose of the entrance examination.

Unfortunately, the college does not offer Food and Nutrition stream under M.Sc, but there are other specialisations of microbiology, biochemistry, nursing, medical technology among others.To be eligible, one must have passed B.Sc or equivalent degree.

Hi Reshmi, Sorry to inform you that there is no specialisation of respiratory care under M.Sc. However there are other streams including Microbiology, Medical Biotechnology, Pathology among others.
