What is INI CET 2027?

INI CET stands for Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test. AIIMS New Delhi conducts this exam on behalf of all Institutes of National Importance (INIs) in India for admission to postgraduate medical programmes. The exam replaced the earlier separate entrance tests that each INI used to conduct individually.

A single INI CET score is used for centralised counselling across all participating INIs — including multiple AIIMS campuses, JIPMER Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, and SCTIMST Trivandrum. Programmes available include MD, MS, MDS, DM, MCh, and MD (Hospital Administration).

More than 15,000 candidates appear for each INI CET session, competing for around 1,500 PG medical seats. Because the exam gives access to India’s top public-sector medical institutions — particularly AIIMS New Delhi and PGIMER — it is one of the most competitive postgraduate medical entrance exams in the country.

INI CET runs twice a year. The January session exam is held in November and leads to January admission. The July session exam is held in May and leads to July admission. INI CET 2027 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the eligibility conditions set by AIIMS New Delhi before applying for INI CET 2027. The degree and marks requirements are the same for both sessions, but the internship completion deadline is different for each session.

Eligibility for MD / MS / DM (6-year) / MCh (6-year)

• You must hold an MBBS degree from a university recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
• General / OBC-NCL / EWS candidates: You need at least 55% aggregate marks across all professional MBBS examinations combined.
• SC / ST candidates: You need at least 50% aggregate marks in all professional MBBS examinations.
• You must complete 12 months of compulsory rotating internship by the cutoff date for each session.

Eligibility for MDS

• You must hold a BDS degree from a university recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI).
• The minimum marks requirement is the same: 55% for General / OBC-NCL / EWS and 50% for SC / ST.
• 12 months of compulsory rotating internship must be completed by the specified deadline.

Nationality Requirements

• Indian nationals can apply directly.
• Foreign nationals need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, before applying.

1. Step 1 — Register on the portal: Go to aiimsexams.ac.in and click on the active INI CET application link. Create a new account using your valid email ID and mobile number.
2. Step 2 — Fill the application form: Log in and enter your personal details, educational qualifications, internship details, and your programme and session preferences.
3. Step 3 — Upload documents: Upload your recent passport-size photograph, scanned signature, and required documents (MBBS/BDS certificate, internship certificate, category certificate if applicable) in the required format and file size.
4. Step 4 — Pay the application fee: Pay online using net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. Save the payment receipt for your records.

You will not be allowed to enter the exam centre without a printed admit card. Carry a government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving Licence) along with your admit card on exam day.

AIIMS also releases a City Intimation Slip before the admit card. This slip tells you the exam city so you can arrange travel and accommodation in advance. Based on previous cycles, the city slip is usually available around 7 to 10 days before the admit card release date.

Preparation Tips for INI CET 2027

INI CET is demanding in two ways — you need strong knowledge across the entire MBBS curriculum, and you must maintain speed and accuracy under strict section-wise time constraints. Here are preparation strategies specific to this exam’s format and difficulty.

Subject-wise Study Strategy

• Start with high-weightage clinical subjects: General Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology have the highest question count in most sessions. Begin these early and revise them multiple times before the exam.
• Take para-clinical subjects seriously: Pathology and Pharmacology are highly tested in INI CET. AIIMS questions in these subjects are conceptual, not just factual recall — you need to understand mechanisms and drug actions, not just memorise names.
• Practise image-based questions: Radiology, Dermatology, Pathology, and Ophthalmology regularly include clinical images — X-rays, CT scans, skin lesion photographs, and microscopic slides. Include image-based question banks in your daily practice.
• Do not skip pre-clinical subjects: Anatomy (especially embryology and neuroanatomy), Physiology, and Biochemistry carry fewer questions but high-yield concepts appear regularly. A weak pre-clinical performance in one section can cost you points you cannot recover later.

• Each section gives you 45 minutes for 50 questions — roughly 54 seconds per question. You cannot afford to spend more than 1.5 minutes on any single question.
