BIT Mesra: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 41 Reviews

Admission to Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in 2014 was based on JEE Main ranks, with candidates registering on the CSAB counselling portal for college and branch allocation. The faculty is well-qualified, many with backgrounds from IIT and IISC Bangalore, and some with international PhDs. Faculty-to-student ratios vary. The semester examination comprises quizzes, mid-semester, end-semester exams, and assignments, totaling 100 marks. While faculty are supportive and strict about attendance, there are mixed reviews on teaching methods, and reports of partiality.

The course structure aligns with NEP guidelines, combining theory and lab work suitable for current job markets. Fees are high compared to other government colleges, at approximately 1.5 lakh INR per semester including mess charges. Placement is a strong aspect, with a high rate over 80%, particularly for branches like Computer Science, ECE, and IT. Annually, over 300 companies, including Microsoft and Amazon, recruit from the campus. Circuital branches see average packages of 16 to 22 LPA, with maximums hitting 98 LPA, while non-circuital ones get 8-10 LPA on average.

Students can participate in placements from their 7th semester, with internships starting in the 6th semester, offering stipends from 20k to 125k per month. Scholarships, like the GP Birla Scholarship, offer tuition waivers from 25% to 100% based on GPA, and financial aid is accessible through SBI campus loans. The overall B.Tech cost is about 20 lakhs, with tuition fees rising annually by 10%. Scholarships and financial aid are available mostly based on merit and need, but may be less accessible for students without reservations or with family incomes above 8 LPA.

BIT Mesra: 1 Answered Question

What would be a better option between BIT Mesra BTech IT branch and IIITM Gwalior 5 year IPG IT course considering the fact that I have no problem with 4 years or 5 years?

Ritwick GhoseIIITM Gwalior

The best choice will be to pursue a five-year IPG from IIITM Gwalior. The reasons are below.

  • There are two programs in IPG. One is IMT (IPG M. Tech) with 119 intake seats, and another is IMG (IPG MBA) with 69 intake seats. Since 2017, the institute has had a strict batch for IT+MBA, unlike before. In the past, students who failed to get a decent CGPA had no option except to take MBA after the third year and they were not allowed to take M.Tech. This is the reason, the placement statistics for the program may look average. However, the situation has changed.
  • IIITM Gwalior has an excellent alumni base. Even some of the recruiters coming for campus placement have a history with the college.
  • Some students even have cracked Google Summer of Code (GSOC), and most get an internship in their first year.

The placement details of the 2019-20 session for both institutes are below.

Criteria IIITM Gwalior BIT Mesra
Average Package INR 14.58 LPA INR 11.76 LPA
Highest Package INR 42 LPA INR 49.76 LPA
Tuition Fee INR 6.7 Lakhs INR 12.32 Lakhs
  • The batch has people with diverse backgrounds and interests, making a mix of cultures.

Overall, the return on investment (ROI) from IPG IIITM is excellent, and the course saves the traditional way of bachelor and master degree time.
