Which M.E branch should you pick at MAHE?

Branch
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (Cloud Computing) (Cloud)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates, and to others after a test.
Pick it if:
You want DevOps or cloud architect jobs: the course names DevOps engineer, site reliability engineer and cloud architect as its job roles, and gives you AWS Academy access.
You hold a mechanical, civil or other B.E: this is one of the four branches that take other engineering streams after a programming test, if seats are left.
You want AWS work on your CV: the course is an AWS Verified Program, so its labs follow the AWS cloud skills framework.
Skip it if:
You want two full years of classes: year 2 here is a 10 to 12 month internship in a company, not coursework on campus.
You hold a GATE score but will skip MET: MSIS admits only on a MET rank, and a valid GATE score just adds 10% to your MET marks.
M.E in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design) (VLSI)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates only.
Pick it if:
You want chip design or verification jobs: Cadence, Infineon and Intel back the course, and verification engineer and analog design engineer are its named job roles.
You want the tools chip firms use: the labs use the Cadence research bundle and Intel FPGA boards through both semesters on campus.
You hold an ECE or EEE degree: this branch takes computer or electronics graduates only, so your stream fits without a test.
Skip it if:
You hold a mechanical, civil or chemical B.E: this branch does not take other engineering streams, even after the programming test.
You want only software jobs: most lab time here goes to circuit design tools, not to app or web code.
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (Big Data Analytics) (Big Data)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates, and to others after a test.
Pick it if:
You want data engineer or data scientist jobs: the course names data engineer, data scientist and business analyst as its main job roles.
You like statistics as much as code: applied statistics, machine learning and data visualisation are core courses in year 1.
You hold a B.E in a non-computer branch: this branch takes other streams after a programming test, with an optional bridge course.
Skip it if:
You want work on chips or boards: this course has no chip or board labs and is built on Hadoop, Spark and databases.
You want deep learning at the centre: deep learning and model deployment sit in the AI and ML branch, while this one stays on data pipelines.
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (Embedded Systems) (Embedded)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates only.
Pick it if:
You want device firmware or automotive jobs: embedded systems engineer, device driver developer and field application engineer are the job roles the course names.
You want an internship fixed when you join: Infineon offers a guaranteed internship to selected students of this branch and the two electronics branches.
You want a degree from France as well: a 1+1 track with ESIGELEC, France leads to their M.Sc. in Automotive Embedded Systems.
Skip it if:
You hold a mechanical or civil degree: this branch takes computer or electronics graduates only.
You want a pure software role: RTOS, device drivers and microcontroller labs take most of the lab hours here.
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security) (Cyber Security)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates, and to others after a test.
Pick it if:
You want a network security or security analyst job: the course is built with EC-Council, and network security engineer and cybersecurity analyst are its named job roles.
You want hacking labs, not only theory: ethical hacking, digital forensics and web application security each come with their own lab.
You hold a B.E in another stream: this branch takes other streams after a programming test, if seats are left.
Skip it if:
You dislike writing scripts: scripting for security work and secure coding are core parts of the course.
You want chip or circuit work: the course has no chip design lab; chip design sits in the VLSI branch.
M.E in Electronics Engineering (Microelectronics and VLSI Technology) (Microelectronics)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates only.
Pick it if:
You want to work in chip making, not only chip design: the course follows the India Semiconductor Mission and trains you in fabrication, IC packaging and testing.
You want chip firms behind your labs: Cadence, Infineon, Intel and KarMic support the course tools and labs.
You hold an electrical or electronics degree: this branch takes computer or electronics graduates only, so your stream fits.
Skip it if:
You want app or web development jobs: device physics and fabrication take most of the course time here.
You want the design side of chips: chip design and verification sit in the VLSI branch, while this one leans toward fabrication and packaging.
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates only.
Pick it if:
You are not sure which computer area you want: the course takes subjects from cloud, big data, AI, embedded and cyber security, so you choose a path later.
You want a wide set of job roles: software developer, cloud architect, data analyst, QA engineer and device driver developer are the roles it names.
You hold a computer or electronics degree: this branch takes those two streams only.
Skip it if:
You want one area in depth from day one: each of the five computer specialisations here goes deeper in its own area than this broad course.
You come from mechanical, civil or another stream: this branch does not take other streams, even after the programming test.
M.E in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) (AI and ML)
INR 4.92 Lakhs for 2 years, the same as every branch. Open to computer or electronics graduates, and to others after a test.
Pick it if:
You want AI engineer or data scientist jobs: alumni of this course work at Databricks, Intel, Bosch and Dell, and help update the syllabus.
You want to build models on real devices: the course is part of the Edge Impulse University Program, with Arduino boards for edge machine learning projects.
You hold a B.E in another stream: this branch takes other streams after a programming test and an optional bridge course.
Skip it if:
You find maths hard: applied linear algebra and probability and statistics are core courses from semester 1.
You want a hardware-heavy course: most lab time goes to models and data, and boards are used only for edge projects.
Counsellor's advice
If you hold a computer or electronics degree, list your branches in the order of the job you want, since the fee is the same. If you hold another degree, list only AI and ML, Big Data, Cloud and Cyber Security, and prepare for the programming test.
M.E Eligibility▾
Degree marks: 60% in all in your B.E or B.Tech, from a recognised university.
Computer or electronics stream: Your degree fits every M.E branch at MSIS.
Other engineering streams: Four computer-side branches take you after a programming test at MSIS, and only if seats are left.
Exam needed: A MET rank. A valid GATE score adds 10% to your MET marks.
Same rule, every branch: The 60% marks rule and the MET rank apply to all eight branches.
M.E Admission Process▾
Apply and book MET: Apply on the MAHE site and book a test slot. You can pick two PG courses at most.
Write MET: 60 questions, 50 on your subject and 10 on engineering maths. You get two attempts, in April and May.
Fill your branch order: MAHE holds one online counselling for M.Tech and M.E. List the branches in the order you want them; your MET rank decides the seat.
Pay the year 1 fee: Pay the full year 1 fee with the refundable deposit by the deadline, or the seat goes.
Report on campus: Come for orientation in late July. Year 2 is an internship in a company, found from semester 2.

In short
BITS Pilani pays more, places more and ranks far higher, but its M.E costs well over twice as much. If you clear its entrance and can pay, take it; if cost matters, MAHE gives you a paid second year.
In short
Thapar costs a little less and places a bigger share of its two-year PG batch, at a lower median pay. If you want a core branch, look at Thapar; for chip design or cloud work, the MAHE industry year is the draw.
In short
PSG Tech costs far less, but its median pay and share placed are both lower. If the fee is your first worry, list PSG Tech first; if you want a paid year in industry, pick MAHE.
In short
VIT Vellore charges less and offers twice as many branches, but a smaller share of its two-year PG batch was placed. If you want a wide choice, look at VIT; for a year in a company, MAHE leads.

Is the fee the same for every M.E branch?▾
Yes. The full 2-year fee is INR 4.92 Lakhs without hostel in all 8 branches, plus a INR 10,000 refundable deposit. With hostel and mess it comes to INR 7.38 Lakhs.
Can I join M.E with a mechanical or civil B.E?▾
Yes, but only four branches take you: AI and ML, Big Data, Cloud and Cyber Security. You need 60%% marks, a pass in a programming test at MSIS and a seat left over. An optional bridge course helps you catch up.
Does a GATE score help?▾
Yes. A valid GATE score adds 10% to your MET marks before the merit list is made. You still have to write MET; GATE alone does not get you a seat.
What happens in year 2 of M.E?▾
Year 2 is a 10 to 12 month project as a paid intern in a company. The internship hunt starts in semester 2. MSIS says 90% of its interns get a job at the same firm.
How much scholarship can I get?▾
Every M.E student on a General seat gets a waiver by MET rank: 40% for the top quarter of the branch, 20% for the next half and 10% for the rest. You keep it only with a CGPA of 8, and you get one scholarship at a time.
Is a hostel room sure for M.E students?▾
No. PG rooms are few and go first come, first served. Email the chief warden in the first week of July. If no room is left, you rent a flat on your own.
Do I get my fee back if I leave?▾
If you withdraw online by 31 July of your admission year, no program fee is cut under the AICTE rules. After that the AICTE refund rules decide the cut, and INR 20,000 comes off any hostel fee paid.

To get lateral admission to the B.Tech course you must have a diploma degree in Engineering or a B.Sc degree with at least 45% marks in aggregate from a recognized institute. Along with that you must have taken Mathematics in Class XII. Since you have a B.Com degree, you are not eligible for admission.
