IIMK PGPM FAQs
Ques. What distinguishes PGPM, PGPM Finance, and PGPM Liberal Studies at IIM Kozhikode?
Ans. PGPM gives the broadest elective basket across consulting, operations, and strategy. PGPM Finance concentrates on BFSI roles and delivers a higher average placement salary. PGPM Liberal Studies integrates humanities and social sciences into management and suits non-commerce or policy-oriented students. All three streams share the same fees, first-year core curriculum, and admission process.
Ques. How does the IIMK Aggregate Index Score help non-engineers and women applicants?
Ans. The AIS weighs CAT at 50%, Class XII at 20%, Class X at 15%, diversity at 10% combined, and work experience at 5%. Female candidates and non-engineers gain a measurable shortlisting advantage even when competing against engineers with the same CAT score. The final merit list then shifts to CAT 35%, PI 35%, WAT 20%, and Resume 10%, so interview performance and documented leadership also carry weight.
Ques. Are student exchange programmes available under the IIMK PGPM?
Ans. Yes. IIM Kozhikode has bilateral exchange agreements with partner B-schools globally. PGPM students across all three streams can spend one term abroad in Year 2, with credits transferring back without affecting the degree. Applications are processed internally after completing the required credit load in Year 1. Specific partner universities and timelines are communicated after joining.
Ques. How do placement outcomes compare across the three PGPM streams?
Ans. Based on 2025 final placement data, PGPM Finance averaged INR 29.50 LPA, above the combined batch average of INR 28.18 LPA. PGPM Liberal Studies students achieved a median of INR 27.80 LPA, comparable to the flagship stream. All three streams achieved 100% placement. Consulting was the top sector at 32% of offers, followed by Finance at 19.2%.
Ques. What education loan options are available for IIMK PGPM students?
Ans. Nationalised banks offer education loans under the IBA Model Education Loan scheme covering tuition and living costs up to the full programme value. IIMK’s conditional offer letter is accepted for loan sanction without collateral up to INR 7.5 lakhs. Amounts above that require collateral. NBFA and the Mirae Asset Foundation Scholarship can reduce the net loan burden for eligible students.
Ques. What should candidates expect at the WAT and PI stage?
Ans. WAT and PI are conducted as a half-day session at one of six cities. The WAT runs 20 to 25 minutes with the essay topic revealed at the venue. The PI follows for 15 to 25 minutes with a faculty panel covering academic background, work experience, career goals, and business awareness. Clear structured thinking and directness matter more than predetermined answers.
