Indira Gandhi National Tribal University was established in the year 2007 under the Parliament Act, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act 2007 by Govt. of India. University is established with an objective of new avenues of good quality higher education and various research facilities for students from tribal community of India.

National Cadet Corps: This unit was started in university since July 2013. It is started to establish character, discipline, comradeship, outlook, spirit of adventure, secular and ideals of self service amongst youth of nation
National Service Scheme: The objective of this unit is to enable students to work in community. This program is to teach social welfare in the students.
Innovation Club: It is joint venture of university and local communities developed in order to explore innovative ideas, technologies and methodologies in local groups and tribal communities.
Central Library: IGNTU library is focal point of information for the students community. The regular development of library ensures good access to knowledge. Currently library has 24898 books in its collection and has 2300 approx. users. Library is fully automated with use of Libsys7 software.
