Manipur University, Manipur was established under the Manipur University Act 8 of 1980.It was converted into a Central University on October 10, 2005. The University has teaching cum affiliating authority over entire Manipur. It presently has 76 affiliated colleges & 1 constituent college under its jurisdiction.

A well equipped Computer Center established in 1985

ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition) center is an extension of Computer Center having 6 PCs, 2 Fujitsu Scanners, 2 HP Laser printers & 1 Server

Center for Manipur Studies for Teaching, Research in History, Culture & Language etc

Center for Myanmar Studies offering 6-month certificate course in Myanmarese language

Center for Gandhian Studies to promote Gandhian Philosophy through lectures etc

Manipur University Museum having a good collection of artifacts for studying various aspects of Archaeology, Paleobotany, Paleogeology etc

The Labs of various departments are equipped with modern research equipment like Electron Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffractometer etc

The campus library was built in 1972. It is housed in a 4 storied building of floor area 3200 sq meters

Reader population of the library includes 2170 PG students, 702 Research Scholars, 191 Teachers & 483 Non – Teaching staff

A repository of more than 1,61,000 books, Subscription of 200 Printer journals

Digital section with 50 internet capable PCs, UPS, OPAC system for accessing the Book bank database

Membership of INFILIBNET & another E-journal consortium with access to 8600 core & peer-reviewed journals & 9 Bibliographic databases from 23 publishers

Hostel

3 Boy’s hostel (Thangjing, Koubru & Langmeiching), Thangjing can accommodate 165 students, Koubru with 55 rooms can accommodate 92 students, Languishing is a three-storied block with accommodation strength of 100 students

2 Girl’s hostel (Urirei, Kombirei) established on July 24, 1982.New block is given to fresher students while Old block is reserved for Research scholars & senior students

Urirei hostel has an accommodation capacity of 68 students, Kombirei hostel contains 50 rooms and can accommodate 45 students

The University Guest House is a 17 room (2 bedded) is present within the campus

Scholarships:

  • Fellowship for Rs 3000/- per month for M Phil and Rs 5000/- per month for Ph.D. is awarded to the deserving students on Merit basis.
  • Four scholarships of Rs 250/- per month under ‘Special Assistance Program’ of Life Sciences Department which includes two students of Manipur University and the rest two from other Universities.
  • Limited number of free studentships is available for needy and deserving students as per the University Rules.
