LU B.Sc FAQs
Ques. How does B.Sc Computer Science at LU differ from B.Sc Mathematics in curriculum and career outcomes?
Ans. B.Sc Computer Science at LU runs coding labs, database management, data structures, and applied computing practicals through all three years. B.Sc Mathematics covers calculus, linear algebra, analysis, and statistics with a strong theoretical focus. The CS programme costs INR 65,462 for the full course versus INR 24,662 for Mathematics. CS graduates typically enter IT roles or pursue MCA, while Mathematics graduates go into M.Sc, B.Ed, or competitive exam preparation.
Ques. What is UGET and how is it different from CUET UG for LU B.Sc admissions?
Ans. UGET is LU’s own written entrance test conducted each July specifically for undergraduate admissions at this university. CUET UG is the NTA-conducted national exam accepted by hundreds of institutions, but LU does not use CUET UG for B.Sc admissions. Students must register through the LU portal and appear for UGET separately. The UGET score determines counselling eligibility and choice of stream, making it the sole gateway for B.Sc admission at LU.
Ques. Can LU B.Sc graduates apply for M.Sc at LU without appearing in CUET PG?
Ans. No. M.Sc admission at LU is through CUET PG, the national-level postgraduate entrance exam by NTA. All candidates including LU B.Sc graduates must clear CUET PG and meet LU’s programme cutoff. Studying on the main campus does help, since familiarity with departments, faculty, and labs gives LU undergraduates a practical edge during counselling. Many students begin CUET PG preparation from the second year of B.Sc.
Ques. Are there dedicated lab facilities for B.Sc Biotechnology and Microbiology at LU’s main campus?
Ans. Yes. The Faculty of Science operates dedicated labs for Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Zoology with cell culture, microscopy, and chromatography equipment supporting undergraduate practicals. Applied science students complete their lab work on the main campus. The university’s central instrumentation centre also offers access to advanced analytical instruments for final-year project work, which is a notable advantage for students in these streams over those studying in affiliated colleges.
Ques. Can students from outside Uttar Pradesh apply for B.Sc at University of Lucknow?
Ans. Yes, students from any state can apply through UGET. As a state university, LU applies a domicile-based reservation under which a share of seats is set aside for candidates with a UP domicile certificate. Applicants from outside UP compete for the general open quota. The exact domicile seat allocation varies by programme and is published in the admission brochure each year, so non-UP candidates should check the official portal before applying.
