Roger Williams University International Student Admissions

The admission process for international students is similar to that of domestic applicants. However, there may be some additional requirements for non-native English speakers and documentation for the visa.

Admission Requirements for International Students

  • RWU supplement
  • Completion of Required Essay
  • Letter of Recommendation.
    • Teacher’s and Counselor’s recommendation letters.
  • Official High School transcripts.
    • Translations of transcripts, if required
  • SAT/ACT scores are required only for candidates applying to the department of education.
  • Portfolio. Special portfolio requirements exist for the following majors: Architecture, Creative Writing, and Visual Arts. Portfolios may be submitted through.
  • IELTS and TOEFL scores are not required.

Visa Process for International Students

In order to obtain an education in the United States, candidates are required to obtain an F1 visa, which can only be filed after the university issues a 1-20 form.

Prerequisites for Form I-20 :

  • Complete the I-20 Request Form
  • Send a clear color scan/PDF of the identity page of your passport
  • Complete the International Student Financial Statement
  • Send a color scan/PDF of a recent bank statement in English to show proof of funding that covers one full year of all tuition, fees, and living expenses.

After completing I-20

  • Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee
  • Apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa.
  • Submit the form and pay the application fee.
  • Schedule visa interview

Major Specific Requirements

  • Candidates applying to programs in the department of education are required to submit ACT and Sat scores.
  • Architecture applicants must have completed a minimum of one year of geometry and two years of algebra in high school, in addition to that all applicants are required to submit a portfolio, along with the application.
  • Audition is compulsory for admission in Performing Arts Programme.
  • Portfolio is required for candidacy in the visual arts program.

Applicants can complete their application without completing the document requirements as the application is not needed to be sent in a single complete package. Admission decisions are released by mid-Dec for Early Decision. For the regular decision and spring semester, the admission decision is made on a rolling basis. Applicants applying for early and regular decision need to enroll by May 1. Applicants applying for spring semester need to confirm their admissions within 14 days of acceptance.
