Amherst College has been quite selective, as its acceptance rate is as low as 13% for 2018 admissions. The college offers only undergraduate courses like Economics, Mathematics, Arts, etc. The college can enroll nearly 1,850 students. Applications from individuals who already have a bachelor’s degree are not accepted at Amherst College. To get admission, international students are required to meet additional requirements.

Amherst College Admission Deadlines

Amherst College has two options for applicants; apply under either Early Decision (ED) or Regular Decision.

  • As an Early Decision applicant, the applicant must agree to not apply at any other college for ED admissions.
  • The applicant must withdraw their application from other colleges and enroll at Amherst if they’re admitted.
  • If applying under the regular decision, applicants are not required to fulfill any of the above conditions.
  • 90% of the applicants choose to apply for Regular Decision.

Amherst College International Admissions

Each year, around the number of 9000 apply to Amherst College, out of which nearly 13% are accepted. 7% of those who are admitted, are international students. A couple of documents are required to be submitted before an application is evaluated.

Application Review and Evaluation:

Each applicant’s application is read by two admission deans before it is sent to the Admission Committee for discussion. The closest attention is given to:

  • Secondary school transcripts
  • Standardized test results
  • Co-curricular involvements, talents
  • Letter of recommendations
  • Quality of writing as demonstrated in your essays, writing supplements

At Amherst, your academic transcript is of a lot of value. The quality of your grades, the courses you have taken and the skills you have learned over the last four years prove to be the deciding factors for your admission to this college. English Proficiency Requirements:

This is the only additional requirement that international students must meet for securing admissions at Amherst. Official score reports of either TOEFL or IELTS are required as a proof of English proficiency from those applicants whose native language is not English. Amherst College Undergraduate Admissions

Only undergraduate degrees are offered at Amherst College. The prospective students have around 40 majors to choose from.

Admission forms usually come out in November (for Early Decision) every year, and accepted students have to submit their response form maximum by the first week of May. With a very low acceptance rate, the international applicants are recommended to apply as early as possible to secure a seat in a program of their choice.
