University of Denver admissions run on a quarter calendar, with Fall as the primary intake for most Indian applicants and a graduate floor of a Bachelor’s degree at a 2.5 GPA equivalent (roughly 55 percent), while first-year applicants need a strong Class XII score in an academic stream.
- Fall Quarter 2027 is the primary intake, and the first-year Regular Decision deadline for Indian applicants closes 15 January 2027; Josef Korbel priority applications close the same day.
- Undergraduate base tuition is USD 63,720 per year (around INR 60.86 Lakhs) and the application fee is USD 65 (around INR 6,209) for most programs, with Daniels business programs charging USD 100 (around INR 9,552).
- UG entry needs Class XII in an academic stream plus IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80, or Duolingo 115; PG entry needs a Bachelor’s with a 2.5 GPA (roughly 55 percent) plus the same English floor.
- Institutional acceptance rate is 71 percent, one of the more accessible R1 doctoral universities on the US private circuit.
Popular programs for Indian students include MS Applied Quantitative Finance at the Daniels College of Business, MS Data Science and AI at the Ritchie School, and MA International Studies at the Josef Korbel School. Peer reviews of the University of Denver cite small class sizes and a 10:1 student-faculty ratio as recurring reasons applicants pick DU over larger public universities.

University of Denver Eligibility for Indian Students
DU applies one institutional floor across schools and layers program-specific prerequisites on top. The academic minimum is the same whether an applicant is Indian or domestic, and the English proficiency band is the recognised published one for graduate and undergraduate entry.
- UG general entry: Class XII from a recognised board in an academic stream, typically 75 percent and above for a competitive profile; DU accepts a strong SAT EBRW score in place of the English test.
- PG general entry: Three or four-year Bachelor’s from a regionally accredited institution with a US-equivalent 2.5 GPA (roughly 55 percent) for bachelor’s coursework or 3.0 GPA for prior graduate coursework.
- English proficiency floor: IELTS 6.5 (no band below 5.5 for UG), TOEFL iBT 80, Duolingo 115, or Cambridge C1 Advanced C or higher.
- Score validity: Two years from the test date, and DU does not super-score any single test.
University of Denver IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants can skip the IELTS or TOEFL if they meet any one of DU’s published exemptions. This waiver applies to both undergraduate and graduate applications and is confirmed on the international admissions pages.
- Completed the final three years of secondary school in English and graduated from that school, common at Indian IB, Cambridge, and CBSE English-medium schools.
- SAT EBRW score of 600 or higher, or ACT English score of 25 or higher, satisfies UG entry without a language test.
- Bachelor’s degree from an institution where the sole language of instruction is English, or last 30 US semester credits completed with a 3.0 GPA at an English-medium institution.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Denver page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Denver UG Programs and Class XII Requirements
Undergraduate degrees run on a quarter system across four years, and the Common Application is the single route for first-year Indian applicants. DU does not require a specific stream from Class XII, though prerequisite subjects apply for engineering, natural sciences, and business analytics.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science | 4 years (12 quarters) | Class XII with Mathematics, strong grades in an academic stream | IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 |

University of Denver MBA Admissions for Indian Applicants
The Daniels College of Business runs four MBA variants for Indian applicants: the full-time Denver MBA, the part-time Professional MBA, an online MBA, and an Executive MBA for senior professionals. All variants use the same DU graduate application and the same Daniels rolling review calendar, but work-experience floors differ.
Daniels MBA Variants and Work Experience
- Denver MBA (full-time): Fall start only, minimum 2 years of full-time professional experience, 3 years preferred.
- Professional MBA (part-time): Fall and Spring starts, minimum 2 years of experience.
- Online MBA: Fall and Spring starts, minimum 2 years of experience.
- Executive MBA: Fall and Spring starts, minimum 10 years of experience with at least 8 in progressively responsible management roles.
Daniels MBA GMAT Policy for Indian Students
Daniels is GMAT and GRE optional for every MBA variant. The GRE reporting code is 4842 and the GMAT code for the Denver and Professional MBA is MZR-GT-43. An Indian applicant with a quantitative undergrad and strong work experience can apply test-optional and still be competitive.
Insider note: The full-time Denver MBA opens only in Fall, so an Indian applicant targeting a 2027 start needs to be ready by the 1 February 2027 priority deadline. Missing this window pushes the intake by a full year, unlike the Professional and Online tracks which run twice a year.
University of Denver PhD Admissions and Funding
DU is an R1 doctoral university with more than 100 graduate programs across its schools. PhD admission is a program-led process: each department sets its own deadline, funding commitment, and interview stage, usually anchored to a Fall Quarter start.
DU PhD Application Timeline
- Most Ritchie School PhD programs use a December to January priority window for the following Fall intake.
- Korbel and Daniels PhDs follow the same 15 January priority pattern used by their master’s programs.
- Faculty fit is confirmed after the application is submitted, and shortlisted applicants receive interview invitations by video call in February and March.
DU PhD Funding for International Students
PhD funding at DU typically comes as a package of tuition remission plus a graduate teaching or research assistantship stipend. Stipend figures vary by school and are set per academic year. Indian applicants should confirm the offer letter’s assistantship terms and read DU’s funding for Indian students at the graduate financial aid page before accepting.
University of Denver Application Process and Portal
The application flow depends on level. Undergraduate first-year applicants use the Common Application, and graduate applicants use the DU-hosted graduate portal. Both are online end to end, and no paper filing is required for Indian applicants.
- Start an account on the Common App for the Fall 2027 cycle (opened 1 August 2026) for undergraduate applications, or on the DU graduate application portal for master’s and PhD applications.
- Select the University of Denver and your chosen program, then complete the profile, academic history, and essay sections.
- Upload unofficial transcripts, a resume, personal statement or essays, and two to three letters of recommendation via the portal.
- Report English test scores from IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or Cambridge, or apply the waiver route if you qualify.
- Pay the application fee of USD 65 (around INR 6,209) on the DU graduate application portal, or USD 100 (around INR 9,552) for a Daniels program; undergraduate applicants pay the same USD 65 fee through Common App.
- Submit the SEVIS supplement form and financial verification form for I-20 processing after admission.
Admission decisions are released on a rolling basis after the priority deadline for graduate programs, while undergraduate decisions follow a fixed calendar: mid-December for ED I and EA applicants, and end of March for ED II and Regular Decision. Accepted applicants confirm by the deposit deadline, typically 1 May for Fall intake.
University of Denver Documents Required for Indian Students
DU’s international office reviews a defined document set for every applicant. Indian applicants should collect the paperwork below before opening the portal so the file can be submitted in one sitting.
- Valid passport bio page, with expiry at least six months past the intended arrival date.
- Certified transcripts and mark sheets for Class X, Class XII, and every year of Bachelor’s or Master’s coursework.
- Degree certificate or provisional certificate for completed degrees, or a bona fide letter from the current institution.
- Personal statement or Statement of Purpose tailored to the chosen program at DU.
- Two to three letters of recommendation, ideally from professors for recent graduates or from managers for working professionals.
- Updated resume or CV with education, work experience, projects, and publications.
- English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo, or Cambridge), unless applying under a waiver.
- Financial verification form with a bank statement or sponsor letter showing funds for one year of tuition plus living costs.
- SEVIS supplement form and a copy of the sponsor’s ID for I-20 issuance after admission.
- USD 50 credential evaluation fee, paid inside the graduate application, for graduate applicants.
University of Denver Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
DU publishes an institutional acceptance rate of 71 percent, which places it in the more accessible half of US private R1 doctoral universities. The figure reflects overall first-year admits and gives Indian applicants a useful baseline before layering program-specific selectivity.
How DU Compares to Peer US Private Universities
A 71 percent admit rate is materially higher than most East Coast privates and comparable to other private universities in the Mountain West. DU sits in the QS 1001-1200 global ranking band and the THE 501-600 band for 2026, which puts it in the ranking band peer applicants weigh alongside acceptance rate.
Program-Level Selectivity at DU
The 71 percent figure is not uniform across programs. Daniels business master’s degrees, Ritchie MS Data Science and AI, and MSW at the Graduate School of Social Work draw larger Indian applicant pools and are practically more selective than the institutional average would suggest. Applicants should treat the number as a floor, not a guarantee.
Insider note: A 71 percent admit rate favours Indian applicants with a clean Bachelor’s transcript at 60 percent and above; the file is rarely rejected on academic grounds alone. Weak SOPs, unclear program fit, and missing English scores are the most common reasons files fall out at Daniels and Ritchie.
See the DU ranking band for how this admit rate maps to US News and QS positions Indian applicants tend to compare against.
USA Student Visa Process for University of Denver
Indian students accepted to the University of Denver apply for the F-1 student visa, which is the standard US non-immigrant visa for academic degree study. The process starts after DU issues the I-20 form, which arrives once the enrolment deposit, SEVIS supplement, and financial verification are on file.
The steps are pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (around INR 33,432), complete the DS-160 online application, pay the visa application fee of USD 185 (around INR 17,671), book a biometrics slot at a US embassy or consulate in India, and attend the F-1 visa interview with the I-20, admission letter, financial proof, and academic documents. Post-arrival, students complete a mandatory ISSS check-in at DU before the first day of classes.
2026 update: The US State Department is running a heavier F-1 documentation review for the Fall 2027 cycle, so Indian applicants should book visa interviews at least six weeks before the DU orientation date and carry hardcopies of every academic and financial document.
Tips and Application Checklist for University of Denver
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at DU, and are ordered to fit a Fall 2027 primary intake target.
- Start six months out: Open the Common App or DU grad portal by August of the previous year, before the priority deadline pressure builds.
- Request transcripts 8 weeks before the deadline: Indian universities take longer than expected to issue attested transcripts and provisional degree certificates.
- Book IELTS or TOEFL early: Aim for a score in hand by October, so retakes are possible before the January priority deadlines.
- Match the SOP to a Daniels or Ritchie faculty focus: DU reviewers weigh program fit heavily, and generic career essays underperform on the Data Science, Cybersecurity, and MBA tracks.
- Line up recommenders by September: Two academic references for freshers and one academic plus one manager reference for working applicants.
- Confirm the English waiver in writing: Email intladm@du.edu or gradinfo@du.edu with your school certificate before skipping the IELTS.
- File the FAFSA and DU merit forms early: Merit aid decisions are tied to submission dates, so a January-filed application is favoured over a March-filed one.
- Book the F-1 visa slot within a week of I-20 receipt: Mumbai and New Delhi slots fill fastest in April and May.
Peer student reviews flag the DU international office as responsive to Indian applicants, so email queries typically get a same-week reply.
The University of Denver admissions cycle for Fall 2027 favours Indian applicants who file by the priority date, secure the English waiver early, and match their SOP to a specific school and faculty focus. Deadlines, tuition, and English floors above are set from DU’s own admissions pages, and the Common App and DU grad portal are the two required application routes.

Overview
I chose to go to the DU because of the amazing and financially supportive study abroad program. I also came for the warmth and the sunshine. I loved the campus when I visited and met with some students who talked about how fantastic DU was and how rarely they felt homesick.
Scholarship
I have had to apply through private scholarship or loans. For financial aid through the university, I just had to do a FAFSA and CSS and provide copies of mine and my parent's tax returns/w-2s.
Overview
Financial aid was better compared to other schools I applied to. The location was also great. They also seemed to have a great English program. I also knew people from high school that was attending.
