California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Bachelor of Science Computer Science is a four-year, full-time, on-campus degree in Northridge, California for Spring 2027 applicants. International first-time applicants need a minimum 3.0 on 4.0, approximately 65% to 70% or 6.5 to 7.0 on 10 for Indian applicants. The published 2026-27 inputs produce a calculated four-year academic total of US$ 89,832 (INR 85.81 Lakhs) before living costs.

The programme combines programming, computer architecture, data structures, operating systems, networking, software engineering, theory and a two-part senior design project. The degree has ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accreditation. That accreditation reflects an externally reviewed computing curriculum, while 15 senior elective units permit choices in artificial intelligence, embedded applications, networking, gaming, graphics, software engineering and security. It suits an Indian Class 12 applicant who enjoys mathematics and programming and wants a broad base for software work or graduate study.

  • The department requires continuous access to a laptop meeting its specifications from the first term.
  • The 2025-Present road map places the senior design sequence in the fourth year.
  • Upper-division electives can be aligned with security, software engineering, artificial intelligence or graphics interests.

Current Admission Status

Applications for the Spring 2027 intake are Open. International student deadline: 31 October 2026.

Indian applicants must submit the application and supporting documents in separate stages, including official records, translations, financial affidavit, bank statement and passport. The page gives dates without a clock time, so the portal’s displayed cutoff controls.

CSUN Computer Science Fees and Living Costs 2027

For Spring 2027, CSUN charges international undergraduates the published 2026-27 tuition and other fees plus a nonresident supplement per unit. The supplement is US$ 471 (INR 44,993) per unit, while annual tuition and other fees are US$ 8,328 (INR 7.96 Lakhs).

Target-cycle fee basis: The table uses the current 2026-27 rate and a calculated 30-unit academic year from the 120-unit, four-year road map. The four-year figure is a planning calculation because future rates can change.

Fee ComponentAmount (USD)Amount (INR)
Tuition and other fees, seven or more units per semesterUS$ 8,328INR 7.96 Lakhs
Nonresident supplement, calculated at 30 unitsUS$ 14,130INR 13.50 Lakhs
Calculated annual academic tuition and other feesUS$ 22,458INR 21.45 Lakhs
International freshman application fee, one timeUS$ 70INR 6,687
Calculated four-year academic total on the 120-unit road mapUS$ 89,832INR 85.81 Lakhs

All INR conversions in the article use a conversion rate of USD 1 = INR 95.5258 as of 15 August 2026. Rates fluctuate daily, verify before applying.

Source: CSUN 2026-2027 Fall and Spring Cost of Attendance and 2025-Present Computer Science road map.

  • The nonresident supplement is unit based, so a 123-unit completion plan would add a calculated US$ 1,413 (INR 1.35 Lakhs) over the 120-unit estimate.
  • The US$ 70 (INR 6,687) application fee is due by credit or debit card at submission, so keep it outside the tuition instalment plan.
  • The four-year academic total assumes the 2026-27 annual rate repeats, so recheck the fee schedule before each later academic year.

Cost of Living in Northridge for Computer Science Students

CSUN’s official on-campus undergraduate estimate separates housing, food, transportation, personal costs and study materials. It is a university Cost of Attendance estimate, not a promise of an individual student’s rent or a substitute for the separate visa funding calculation.

ExpenseMonthly (USD)Monthly (INR)
HousingUS$ 763INR 72,854
FoodUS$ 514INR 49,100
TransportationUS$ 122INR 11,670
Personal and miscellaneousUS$ 238INR 22,735
Books, course materials, supplies and equipmentUS$ 120INR 11,447
Monthly living and study subtotalUS$ 1,757INR 1.68 Lakhs
Annual living and study estimateUS$ 21,080INR 20.14 Lakhs

Source: CSUN 2026-2027 Fall and Spring Cost of Attendance, undergraduate living on campus estimate.

Adding the academic total and living and study estimate to the official annual loan-fee line gives a calculated budget. The on-campus international budget is US$ 43,614 (INR 41.66 Lakhs) for one year.

Repeating that budget for four years gives US$ 264,288 (INR 2.52 Crore) as a calculated planning total. This illustration assumes the 120-unit road map and unchanged 2026-27 rates, so it should not be treated as a fixed university bill.

Check Out: USA Cost of Living for International Students

Key insight: The academic estimate is manageable only when the family funds both unit-based tuition and Northridge living costs. Build a four-year plan from the current annual inputs, then stress-test it for future fee changes.

CSUN Computer Science Admission 2027

CSUN admits international first-time freshmen to its bachelor’s degrees through the central Cal State Apply system. The Computer Science programme is an on-campus undergraduate route, and applicants should prepare for a mathematics-heavy first two years.

The published academic minimum is a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale, while CSUN separately requires English language evidence unless its waiver conditions apply. The programme catalogue also requires calculus, discrete structures, linear algebra, science laboratory work and programming foundations.

Intakes and Deadlines for International Freshmen

CSUN currently lists Spring 2027 and Fall 2027 admission for international freshmen. Spring 2027 is the target intake because its application window is open on the research date, while Fall 2027 is the next listed window.

IntakeInternational Application DeadlineOfficial Document Deadline
Spring 2027, Open1 July to 31 October 202615 November 2026
Fall 2027, Announced1 August 2026 to 15 May 202715 June 2027

CSUN does not publish a fixed decision date on the international freshman page. After submission, applicants should monitor the CSUN Portal because the university says admission updates become available there in the weeks after application.

Academic Eligibility for Indian Applicants

Indian applicants need a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, which is approximately 65% to 70% or 6.5 to 7.0 on 10 for planning. CSUN makes the official international-grade conversion during application review, so the Indian range is only an approximate guide.

The Computer Science curriculum makes mathematics preparation more important than the minimum GPA alone. Students encounter Calculus I and II, linear algebra, discrete structures, data structures and science laboratory choices before the senior project sequence.

RequirementCSUN PositionIndian Applicant Meaning
Minimum academic averageGPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scaleApproximately 65% to 70% or 6.5 to 7.0 on 10
Secondary-school completionOfficial secondary-school records and verification of high-school completionSubmit Class 12 certificates, examination grades and official translations
Mathematics and science preparationProgramme requirements include calculus, linear algebra and lower-division science with laboratory workKeep mathematics and science records ready and review the first-year road map
Major grade rules after enrolmentNo CSUN grade lower than C- is accepted for required Computer Science courses where no higher rule is statedPlan for consistent performance because prerequisite chains can delay later courses

The 3.0 threshold establishes eligibility but does not measure readiness for the programme’s mathematics and programming sequence. Review the first-year course order before applying if your Class 12 mathematics preparation is limited.

No current subject-specific Computer Science ranking was verified for this programme, so an overall university ranking should not be treated as a Computer Science result.

English Language Proficiency (ELP) Requirements

English language proficiency (ELP) evidence is required when an applicant does not meet CSUN’s high-school English waiver conditions. CSUN lists the following undergraduate minimums and does not publish separate minimum section scores on the checked page.

Accepted TestMinimum Undergraduate Score
IELTS Academic6.0
TOEFL Internet Based61
TOEFL Paper-based500
PTE Academic, Pearson Test of English50
Duolingo English Test95
TOEFL ITPNot accepted

Score scale note: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) policy currently shows an Internet Based score of 61 and a paper-based score of 500.

The page does not state a 1.0 to 6.0 TOEFL policy, so applicants submitting a new-format result should verify its acceptance with International Admissions before sending scores.

CSUN’s waiver requires three years at a U.S. high school or three years where English is the principal language of instruction, subject to its listed country conditions. Indian applicants should therefore plan for a test unless International Admissions confirms an individual exemption.

  • IELTS Academic 6.0 and PTE Academic 50 provide two clearly listed routes for Indian applicants who prefer established test centres.
  • The current TOEFL Internet Based minimum is 61, but TOEFL ITP is expressly excluded and the page gives no new-format conversion.
  • English-medium schooling in India should not be assumed to satisfy the waiver because CSUN applies both duration and country conditions.

Verify the current intake dates and accepted score formats on the CSUN international freshman admissions page before submitting the application.

Tip for Indian students: Treat the 3.0 GPA as the entry floor, then test your calculus and programming readiness against the first-year road map. A qualifying English score does not reduce the mathematics load.

CSUN Computer Science Application 2027

The application has two connected parts: the Cal State Apply submission and the later CSUN Portal document process. Indian applicants should prepare translated school records, English scores, financial evidence and passport details before paying the application fee.

The target Spring 2027 window remains open through 31 October 2026, while Fall 2027 is the next published window. CSUN does not give a fixed decision date, so the Portal becomes the practical place to track status after submission.

Application Timeline for International Freshmen

The table converts CSUN’s published international deadlines into a document checklist. The university’s page gives dates but no clock time, so submit before the displayed Portal cutoff.

Application StageDeadlineRequired Action
Spring 2027 application31 October 2026Submit Cal State Apply and pay the application fee
Spring 2027 official documents15 November 2026Send school records, translations, financial affidavit, bank statement and passport
Fall 2027 application15 May 2027Submit Cal State Apply within the listed 1 August 2026 to 15 May 2027 window
Fall 2027 official documents15 June 2027Complete the international document file after application submission

Submitting the form before the first deadline does not complete the file by itself. The document deadline is a separate control point, so reserve time for official dispatch and translation review.

Required Documents and Submission Sequence

CSUN asks international first-time freshmen for official secondary-school records, English translations and proof of high-school completion. The university also requires a financial affidavit, bank statement, passport copy and a US$ 70 (INR 6,687) application fee.

  • Collect Class 12 certificates, examination grades, completion proof and official English translations in the original submission format.
  • Arrange an accepted English score and send it through the testing organisation or the account route listed by CSUN.
  • Complete Cal State Apply and pay the US$ 70 (INR 6,687) fee by credit or debit card at submission.
  • Complete the Affidavit of Financial Support and attach a bank statement that supports the planned study period.
  • Upload the passport photo page and any available materials in Cal State Apply, then use the CSUN Portal if later document upload is required.

Course-Specific Preparation Before Submission

The programme’s 120-unit road map starts with programming, calculus and general education before progressing to operating systems, networking and software engineering. Use that sequence to decide whether your Class 12 mathematics preparation needs strengthening before enrolment.

The department also requires continuous laptop access, while senior electives should reflect the student’s intended technical direction. These requirements make a device budget and a preliminary elective plan useful parts of the financial and academic review.

  • Review the first-year calculus and programming sequence against your Class 12 subjects before selecting the major.
  • Price a laptop that meets the department’s minimum specifications before calculating the first-year funding requirement.
  • Map the 15 senior elective units to security, software engineering, graphics or another listed area after reviewing the core.

Application tip: Treat 31 October as the form deadline and 15 November as a separate document deadline for Spring 2027. Start translations and financial evidence before the Cal State Apply submission.

CSUN Computer Science Scholarships 2027

Incoming international freshmen should not budget on a CSUN scholarship for Spring 2027. The most relevant named institutional award is the International Matador Scholarship, but it is for continuing F-1 students after enrolment.

F-1 is the U.S. nonimmigrant student status used for full-time study. CSUN’s checked scholarship page does not publish a target-cycle award specifically for incoming international Computer Science freshmen.

Institutional Scholarships for International Undergraduates

CSUN lists the International Matador Scholarship as a continuing-student award worth US$ 3,000 (INR 2.87 Lakhs) for each selected student. The page also retains the Dianne F. Harrison Award as an older book-voucher reference, so the two rows have different cycle status.

AwardValue (USD)Value (INR)Eligibility and RouteCycle and Deadline
Associated Students International Matador ScholarshipUS$ 3,000 per studentINR 2.87 LakhsContinuing F-1 international students, undergraduate CSUN GPA 3.0 or higher, 12 units, recommendation and no government sponsorshipCurrent published, cycleless; period starts in early November and the closing date varies
Dianne F. Harrison Award, prior-cycle referenceUS$ 500 book voucherINR 47,763Continuing F-1 international students, undergraduate GPA 3.0 or higher, full-time enrolment and recommendation2024-25 prior-cycle reference; 3 June 2024 deadline

Neither award should be subtracted from the Spring 2027 first-year budget because both require continuing CSUN enrolment. The Matador award is also limited to five students and is not renewable, so it is a later funding possibility rather than an admission funding plan.

CSUN says on-campus scholarship applications open in early November through the myMatador system, while the exact closing date varies by award. Keep the 3.0 CSUN GPA and 12-unit full-time load in view after enrolment if you want to pursue the current published award.

  • Carry full first-year tuition and living funds because the main international award is not available to a new entrant at application.
  • Create a myMatador profile in early November after enrolment and check the individual closing date for the award.
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 CSUN GPA and 12 units if you later apply for the International Matador Scholarship.

Verify the current award conditions and opening period on the CSUN international scholarship page before relying on any award.

Scholarship reality: CSUN’s named international award is a post-enrolment opportunity, not an entry discount. Treat the current award as a possible second-stage offset and fund the first year without it.

CSUN Computer Science Salary 2027

CSUN does not publish a course-cohort salary, offer rate or placement rate for this Bachelor of Science in Computer Science on its static career page. Its first destination dashboard is school-level and can filter by graduation semester, college and major, so it is the closest official outcome check but not a course guarantee.

Because the published evidence does not identify a Computer Science cohort salary, a market benchmark must remain separate from graduate outcomes. The distinction matters when an Indian applicant tests whether a calculated U.S. study budget can be supported by future work.

Employment Evidence and Los Angeles Market Context

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports occupation-level wages for the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metropolitan area. BLS is a labour-market benchmark, not a CSUN employment report, and the figures below describe the occupational market rather than this degree’s graduates.

Evidence ScopeMeasureAmount (USD)Amount (INR)
External market benchmarkComputer and mathematical occupations, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, May 2025 mean hourly wageUS$ 62.04 per hourINR 5,926 per hour

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wages in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, May 2025.

The BLS May 2025 wage release gives the benchmark’s geography and occupation scope. It does not show what a CSUN Computer Science graduate will earn or whether an employer will sponsor a graduate.

Take-home pay varies with federal and state tax, benefits and location, so use an official tax calculator when modelling an offer.

Return on Investment for International Students

The course is professionally oriented, but its verified cost-to-career evidence is incomplete because CSUN does not publish a Computer Science salary or offer-rate cohort. Use the following inputs to model risk before committing funds.

  • Budget for the calculated four-year total of US$ 264,288 (INR 2.52 Crore), including academic costs and repeated on-campus estimates, before relying on work income.
  • No course-cohort salary or offer-rate figure is published, so use the BLS benchmark only for market context and not repayment planning.
  • The Los Angeles benchmark is US$ 62.04 (INR 5,926) per hour, so compare role, experience and tax assumptions before treating it as personal pay.
  • A 12-month post-completion work authorisation and possible 24-month Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics extension make early employer preparation financially important.
  • If you plan to return to India, do not apply the Los Angeles wage benchmark to Indian pay, and build a separate India-return budget for your intended role.

The cost case is strongest for applicants who can fund the degree without assuming a specific salary outcome. The programme’s broad core and senior electives support several technical directions, but the missing course-cohort employment data remains a material decision risk.

Check Out: CSUN University Profile

ROI reality: Treat the calculated INR 2.52 Crore four-year budget as the funding decision and the BLS figure as market context only. Apply after you have a full funding plan that does not depend on an unpublished graduate salary.

USA Visa for CSUN B.S. Computer Science Students 2027

Indian students use the F-1 student visa for this full-time degree. F-1 is the U.S. nonimmigrant status for full-time study. The one-time visa application fee is US$ 185 (INR 17,672), and the I-901 SEVIS fee is US$ 350 (INR 33,434). SEVIS is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, and CSUN issues Form I-20 after admission and financial-document review. The U.S. Department of State student visa page controls current visa instructions and should be checked before payment.

  • Post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) can provide up to 12 months of work authorisation at the same education level when USCIS approves the application.
  • A 24-month Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) OPT extension may follow when the degree classification, employer, E-Verify status and other USCIS conditions qualify.
  • The H-1B specialty occupation route has no single course-linked salary threshold, and the employer must meet the higher of the actual or prevailing wage.
  • F-2 status may cover a spouse and unmarried minor children, but an F-2 spouse is not employment-authorised through that dependant status.

The United States does not provide a fixed permanent-residence timeline for this degree. A later employment-based route depends on employer sponsorship, the relevant immigrant category and visa availability, so treat the work window as temporary planning space.

Check Out: USA F-1 Student Visa Guide

Visa reality: The 12-month OPT period and possible 24-month STEM extension depend on separate immigration approvals and qualifying employment. Fund the degree without assuming that the full work window or a later H-1B route will occur.

CSUN Computer Science fits Indian Class 12 applicants who can meet the 3.0 GPA floor, manage calculus and programming, and prefer a broad ABET-accredited curriculum. The senior electives and two-part design sequence support technical exploration, while the 120-unit road map gives the degree a clear four-year structure. The material tradeoff is the calculated INR 2.52 Crore four-year planning budget alongside unpublished course-cohort salary evidence. For Spring 2027, complete the accepted English score, Cal State Apply form and supporting financial documents before the 31 October and 15 November deadlines.

The best thing about this university is the location and the price. Its located in long beach in the beautiful SoCal and very close to Los Angeles. It is amazing. Really nice location, nice people and so much to explore and do. The only down side is that it is pretty expensive but atleast the weather is nice here.
