SAT and ACT are test-optional across every RIT undergraduate track and Indian applicants can apply without either. Portfolios are required only for Art, Design, and Film/Animation tracks. The cooperative-education model is embedded from the second year onward across engineering and computing programmes, letting Indian students bank paid US work experience before graduation.
Rochester Institute of Technology MBA Admissions
Rochester Institute of Technology’s Saunders College of Business runs an AACSB-accredited MBA in three formats: the full-time 1-Year MBA for career switchers, the +1 MBA for RIT bachelor’s graduates, and the part-time Executive MBA for working professionals. The full-time MBA is the natural fit for Indian applicants applying from abroad.
Saunders MBA Eligibility and Test Policy
Applicants need a Bachelor’s from a recognised university with a GPA around 3.0 (around 75 percent in Indian terms). Work experience is not required for the 1-Year MBA and many students enter directly from undergraduate. The Executive MBA requires current professional experience. GMAT or GRE is required for Indian applicants and other holders of international degrees, and is waived only for graduates of regionally-accredited US institutions.
Saunders MBA Rounds and Interview
The programme runs rolling review with a Fall priority date around 1 August 2027. Earlier submissions carry stronger merit-scholarship consideration. Interviews are not a fixed stage but the admissions committee may invite Indian candidates for a short video conversation before an offer is issued. English minimums for the MBA are IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL 88, per RIT’s business page.
Planning note: Indian MBA applicants aiming at Fall 2027 should sit the GMAT or GRE by February 2027 and file by 15 May 2027 to keep the visa window comfortable.
Rochester Institute of Technology PhD Admissions and Funding
Rochester Institute of Technology awards 13 doctoral degrees, and Computing and Information Sciences is the flagship track for Indian applicants. Admitted PhD students typically receive full tuition remission plus a graduate assistantship, structured as either a research assistantship with a stipend or a teaching assistantship with a salary, drawn from the 2026-27 funding pool.
RIT PhD Eligibility
Applicants need a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a related field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, at least one full year of programming coursework, and a strong quantitative background in discrete mathematics and probability. GRE is required for the Computing and Information Sciences PhD. English minimums are IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL 88.
RIT PhD Deadlines and Funding Path
The Fall 2027 priority deadline is 31 December 2026, with rolling review afterwards. Applicants attach a research statement and align it with the profile of two or three named faculty. Additional external fellowship options for Indian students, including the Inlaks Shivdasani route, sit alongside the RIT assistantship, and the full funding for Indian students lives on the Scholarships page.
Rochester Institute of Technology Application Process for Indian Students
Rochester Institute of Technology runs level-specific application routes, and Indian applicants use the same platform as any other international candidate. Following the sequence below keeps the application, English test, and visa windows aligned for a Fall 2027 start.
- Choose the platform. Undergraduate applicants file on the Common Application (which opened 1 August 2026 for the 2026-27 cycle) or on RIT’s own portal. Graduate and PhD applicants file on join.rit.edu.
- Register early and reserve slots. Book IELTS or TOEFL at least six weeks before the deadline. Request WES or ECE evaluation only if a specific programme asks for it.
- Complete the profile. Enter academic history, standardised test results (SAT and ACT optional for UG, GRE optional for most graduate tracks), and Indian board or degree details.
- Upload documents. Class XII marksheets, Bachelor’s transcripts, resume, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
- Pay the application fee of USD 65 (around ₹6,229) on the RIT application portal using an international credit card. RIT does not automatically waive the fee for Indian applicants.
- Submit and track. Log in to the applicant status page. RIT flags missing items within two to three business days.
RIT Admission Decisions and Next Steps
Undergraduate decisions land in mid-December, mid-January, late January, and mid-March by plan. Graduate decisions arrive four to eight weeks after a completed file. Admitted Indian applicants receive an offer letter that lists the enrolment deposit and a conditional I-20 issued once financial documents are verified.
Rochester Institute of Technology Documents Required
Rochester Institute of Technology asks Indian applicants to upload every academic and identity document as a scanned PDF inside the application portal. Certified originals are needed only after admission, when the I-20 is being processed.
- Passport: Bio page scan valid at least six months past intended entry.
- Class X and XII marksheets: Board-issued, in English or officially translated.
- Bachelor’s transcripts: Semester-wise mark sheets and the provisional or final degree certificate.
- Statement of Purpose: One to two pages, keyed to the specific programme.
- Letters of Recommendation: One for UG, two for most PG programmes, three for PhD.
- Resume or CV: Full academic, project, and work history.
- English test score report: Sent directly by the testing body to RIT.
- Financial documentation: Bank statement, sponsor affidavit, or scholarship letter covering the first year, submitted for I-20 issue after admission.
- Portfolio: Required only for Art, Design, Photography, and Film/Animation tracks.
Applicants with a three-year Indian Bachelor’s should also attach the WHED entry printout and the NAAC accreditation letter, which RIT reviews under its Indian 3-year degree policy.
Rochester Institute of Technology Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Rochester Institute of Technology does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate on its admissions site. Third-party estimates place the overall acceptance rate at around 67 percent, with international admissions running tighter at roughly 40 percent in the last full reporting cycle. RIT sits in the moderately-selective band, not the ultra-selective band.
What the Rate Means for Indian Applicants
Indian applicants above the published thresholds (Class XII at 65 percent or a Bachelor’s at GPA 3.0, plus IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 88) sit comfortably inside the admit zone across most computing and engineering tracks. Applicants with GPAs above 3.5 and demonstrated project work land offers at a materially higher clip.
Programme-Level Selectivity
Selectivity varies materially by programme. MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and the +1 MBA sit at the tighter end because of Indian-applicant volume. MS Cybersecurity, MS Industrial Engineering, and design tracks sit at a wider end. RIT’s ranking band in the QS 951 to 1000 range indicates a technical-first, industry-linked polytechnic rather than a research-only institute.
Insider note: RIT admissions officers weight the fit essay and prior project portfolio heavily for computing and engineering applicants, particularly for Indian candidates transitioning from non-STEM Bachelor’s backgrounds through bridge-course sequences.
United States F-1 Student Visa Process for Rochester Institute of Technology Applicants
Admitted Indian students to Rochester Institute of Technology apply for the F-1 student visa once the I-20 is in hand. Steps run: pay the I-901 SEVIS fee of USD 350 (around ₹33,540); complete Form DS-160 online; book biometrics at the local OFC in Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, or Mumbai; and attend the consular interview at the paired US Embassy or Consulate. Financial documentation must show first-year funds of roughly USD 74,000 (around ₹70.90 Lakhs) covering tuition and living. Slots for Fall intakes get scarce from March onward, so Indian applicants should book the visa slot within two weeks of receiving the I-20.
After arrival, students report to RIT’s International Student Services within 30 days, complete SEVIS check-in, and register for the Student Health Insurance Plan. STEM-designated programmes at RIT (including all engineering MS tracks, MS Computer Science, and MS Data Science) qualify for 36 months of OPT work authorisation post-graduation. For a step-by-step embassy playbook, use the US student visa guide for Indian applicants.
2026 update: Chennai and Hyderabad F-1 slots for the August intake typically open in a rolling weekly release from late February 2027, and applicants should refresh USTravelDocs daily between 09:00 and 11:00 IST for early releases.
Tips and Application Checklist for Rochester Institute of Technology Admissions
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Rochester Institute of Technology across the last three admit cycles.
- Apply early in the rolling window: Submit by mid-December 2026 for Fall 2027 to keep the visa runway wide.
- Request the MOI waiver up front: Attach the English-medium letter with the application, not after review.
- Match SOP to programme, not to RIT broadly: Admissions officers screen for specialisation-level fit inside MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and MS AI.
- Nine to eight weeks before deadline: Book IELTS or TOEFL and request WES evaluation where relevant.
- Six weeks before deadline: Request academic transcripts and Class X marksheet copies from your institution.
- Four weeks before deadline: Line up two or three recommenders and share the SOP draft with them.
- Two weeks before deadline: Complete the application, pay the USD 65 (around ₹6,229) fee, and submit.
- Within 10 days of the offer: Pay the enrolment deposit and share financial documents to trigger the I-20.
- Within 14 days of I-20: Pay the SEVIS fee, complete the DS-160, and book the visa slot.
Rochester Institute of Technology admissions reward early, programme-specific applications across the Fall 2027 cycle. Indian applicants who match the GPA 3.0 or Class XII 65 percent floor and the IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 88 English band clear the institution-wide test and can then compete on fit, projects, and financial readiness for the F-1 visa.

- I love the university’s discipline and well planned education.
Dislikes
- I don’t like about placements, it should’ve provided some good opportunities at least for the foreign students.
Likes
- Strong focus on hands-on, experiential learning through labs, co-ops, and real-world projects.
- Students come from many countries, so it’s very diverse.
- The co-op program here helps students get real job experience.
Dislikes
- Sometimes classes fill up too quickly during registration.
- Tuition and living costs are high.
- The winter weather is very cold and long.
Scholarship
- I got an international fund scholarship, and I don't think there is any eligibility criteria for that. And I got $15000 per year, and my batchmate received $20000 may be that's because her academics are good, I don't know why.
- As I know, everybody receives some amount of scholarship, and for bachelor's students it is an amount, and for master's students it is in %, like 30-50% of their fee. So, it may depend on your previous academics and the exam scores may be.

Likes
- The faculties are friendly and good time management for projects. The faculties understands the course load well.
Dislikes
- The placement team is not good which I don't like in this University.

- The Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) programme at KTH was carried out at a very high quality and well structured. Students had the opportunity to work with faculty and professors on latest research and (the university) had strong connections in the industry. I remember one particular example where we went to the Siemens Energy office two hours away and got a tour of the turbines division as part of our "Thermal Turbomachinery" elective course.
- Due to its strong academic reputation, KTH attracts students not only in Sweden but from all round the world - thereby creating a diverse, multicultural and international environment. The university also presents students opportunities to study abroad through partnerships with other top universities worldwide.
- In terms of student life and support, the university offers very strong services in career counseling, academic advising, mental health resources and language support (via Language cafes). The student union is super active, planning a wide variety of social, professional, and cultural events - and they are very well organised and conducted. Plus, the library on campus has a wide range of books and articles that can be accessed for your assignments, research and even for your own use at some point.
Dislikes
- The housing system can be stressful. KTH Accommodation's rates are exhorbitant compared to the rates offered by SSSB, the general company for student housing in Stockholm. Moreover, finding affordable and conveniently located accommodation can be a real challenge.
- In terms of socialising, there is a quasi inexistant contact with the local Swedish students which is a pity if you want to try and integrate yourself into learning Swedish culture. Plus, the locals are either reserved or already have their own established circles.
- When it comes to the teaching style, I learnt that KTH's education model relies heavily on self-directed learning. I did not have a problem per se - but it can be overwhelming to others. Incoming future students better be prepared for an intense grading system, as courses often require long hours of independent work with few continuous assessments. The exams can also be up to four hours long - so it requires a very high level of concentration to be maintained.
Scholarship
- I did not receive any scholarship during my program there, so I do not know what the award amount was.
- However yes, one of my batchmates did receive the "KTH India Scholarship." The scholarship covered the tuition fee of a two-year Master degree provided the overall grades/results from the first year were up to a certain minimum standard, which also included a monthly living allowance during the first academic year.
- There are four KTH scholarships, three offered by the Swedish Institute and five granted by KTH-associated scholarship organisations - leading to a total of twelve. Hence, twelve students on average would be receiving scholarships each year. I do not know what the typical award amount would be, though.

- Course is very detailed and perfectly made
Dislikes
- Rochester is a little isolated no social life
- All about studying
- Connectivity to other cities is very bad
Scholarship
- Yes, scholarships are available. I received a 40% scholarship on my tuition. Almost everyone in my class received some percentage of scholarship.
- Eligibility of scholarships is based on work experience or undergraduate experience in the same field. Having research papers also helps a lot.
- Other soft skills and club participations etc also helped in getting scholarships.

Overview
The program I selected is extremely rigorous and well-known, which will help me get a quality job upon graduation. My financial aid award was excellent, and the school is generally very good, making it a clear choice. My college is a journey of discovery - learning more about myself, my field, and my future. While there have been some challenges along the way, the college has helped me to grow as a person and I feel equipped with the skills I need to be successful, in my field and life. Everything is available to me at my school - there is no class I cannot take, no research I cannot do, and no activity I cannot participate in. Everything is there for me.
Scholarship
All students receive scholarships. I have received a presidential scholarship, as well as several grants and stipends, bringing my total cost of attendance down to less than half of the original cost. No additional applications are needed for scholarships at the school, with only a few exceptions.
