HITS Chennai admission is through HITSEEE for engineering and through HITSCAT for several non-engineering courses. The 2026 engineering application requires 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. BBA and BCA generally require 50% in Class 12, while postgraduate applicants need a suitable bachelor's degree. Architecture also requires an accepted aptitude-test score.
The university's admission pages currently give the 2026 requirements. A complete 2027 admission calendar has not been announced on these pages. The details below cover the Chennai campus, with online admission explained separately. The new intake's application form will confirm any changes to marks, subjects and selection.
HITS Chennai Admission Process
Students apply through the HITS admission portal for their chosen school and course. Engineering, law, health sciences and postgraduate courses have separate application options. The university checks academic qualifications and uses the entrance examination, counselling or interview required for that course.
HITSCAT assesses applicants for several non-engineering schools. Its questions cover English and General Knowledge, followed by questions from the chosen subject area. The examination uses multiple-choice questions. This means a student applying for a science course may have a different subject section from an applicant to a management or arts course.
| Course group | Main admission requirements |
|---|---|
| BTech | Required Class 12 science marks, HITSEEE and counselling |
| BArch | Required Class 12 subjects and marks, with NATA or JEE Main Paper 2 |
| BDes | Class 12 qualification and the engineering, architecture and design application process |
| BBA, BCA and selected arts and science courses | Qualifying marks and the applicable HITSCAT process |
| Integrated law and health sciences | Course-specific school subjects, marks and the relevant school application |
| Postgraduate courses | Relevant graduation qualification and the required selection assessment |
An entrance rank is considered along with eligibility and available seats. Applicants must also complete the counselling or interview stage shown in their application account. An offer is confirmed only after the university's document and payment requirements are met.
HITS Chennai BTech Admission
HITS offers four-year engineering degrees in areas such as Computer Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Biotechnology. Computing options include Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The university also offers specialised courses with industry collaborations.
Class 12 Subjects and Marks
The 2026 HITSEEE application requires an average of 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Biotechnology accepts Mathematics or Biology with Physics and Chemistry. The calculation uses the required subject group, rather than the overall percentage across every Class 12 subject.
Cambridge applicants must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at A Level and English at AS Level. The form also states that a student completing Class 12 through NIOS must have completed Class 10 through regular schooling, or vice versa.
The general university eligibility page contains some older 50% engineering entries. Applicants should use the intake-specific conditions in the application they submit; a lower mark shown for another course or earlier admission does not establish eligibility for the 2027 intake.
BTech Lateral Entry
Eligible diploma and BSc holders can apply for admission to the second year. A diploma applicant needs at least 50% in an appropriate engineering or technology branch from the recognised board or an accepted equivalent qualification.
A BSc applicant needs 50% in a recognised three-year science degree. Mathematics must have been studied in Class 12 or as a core or ancillary subject in the BSc. The earlier qualification and its subjects therefore matter alongside the percentage. The university's lateral-entry eligibility conditions give the accepted qualification pattern.
HITS Architecture and Design Admission
BArch is a five-year course. The 2026 application requires Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 50% aggregate. Applicants must also have a valid NATA score or JEE Main Paper 2 score and satisfy the applicable Council of Architecture conditions.
BDes is a four-year course. The same application gives a minimum Class 12 aggregate of 60% and accepts Science, Commerce, Arts or another recognised stream. Design choices include Communication Design, Fashion and Apparel Design, and Gaming Design. The stream flexibility for BDes does not change the compulsory science subjects required for architecture.
BBA, BCA, Arts and Science Admission
The general campus eligibility requirement for BBA, BCA, BCom and several BA courses is 50% in Class 12 or an equivalent examination. HITS offers BCA options in Database Systems, Multimedia and Animation, and Cyber Security. Management options include general BBA and specialised courses such as Banking and Fintech, Digital Marketing and Logistics.
For science courses, the required subjects can be more specific. BSc Computer Science, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics require Mathematics in Class 12. A student with the required overall marks but without Mathematics should not assume that the BCA rule also applies to these BSc courses.
| Campus course group | Academic requirement |
|---|---|
| BBA, BCA and BCom | Class 12 or equivalent with 50%, subject to the course conditions |
| BA English, Economics, Political Science and Psychology | Class 12 or equivalent with 50% |
| BSc Computer Science, Data Science and AI and Data Analytics | Class 12 with 50% and Mathematics |
| Integrated MBA | Class 12 or equivalent with 50% in any stream |
The School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences FAQ confirms that applicants who studied in a regional language at school may apply. Teaching at HITS is in English. Its application process begins with online registration and email confirmation, after which the student completes the course application.
Honours and Minor Study
The school's FAQ describes honours and minor options for students who maintain the required academic record after admission. For honours, it specifies a CGPA of 8.0 or above in every semester through Semester IV, without a history of arrears. Additional courses and fees apply. These options depend on performance during the degree and should not be treated as a separate guaranteed award at entry.
HITS Law Admission
The 2026 School of Law application requires 50% in Class 12 for BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons). Both accept applicants from any stream. The three-year LLB is for graduates and the current school application specifies 60% aggregate in the bachelor's degree. LLM requires 50% in an accepted law degree.
The school also offers courses in forensic and crime-related subjects. BSc Forensic Science requires Class 12 Science. Digital Forensics and Cyber Security accepts Science, or another stream with Computer Science. Criminology and Police Administration accepts Class 12 from any stream.
HITSCAT and counselling form part of the school's 2026 admission process. The general eligibility page gives a lower LLB mark than the school application, so applicants must obtain confirmation of the intake rule if relying on that older entry. The 2027 school form will establish the applicable requirement.
Health Sciences and Nursing Admission
Health-science courses have different subject combinations. The HITS health-sciences application gives a 50% minimum in Class 12 or equivalent for the relevant courses. Pharmacy requires Physics and Chemistry, with an accepted Mathematics or Biology-related subject. Optometry requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.
For BPT, the university's 2026–27 application specifies Physics, Chemistry and Biology and asks candidates to have appeared in NEET-UG. Applicants should retain the score record for document checking. This is the condition stated in the HITS application for that intake.
BSc Nursing requires 50% in the specified science subjects and a pass in English. Students must be medically fit and at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year. Both male and female students may apply. These nursing conditions are separate from the age rule used for appearing in HITSCAT.
HITS MBA and Other Postgraduate Admission
MBA requirements depend on the specialisation. Business Analytics accepts a recognised bachelor's degree with 50% aggregate. Aviation Management and Media and Entertainment also specify 50% in graduation. Some specialised management courses identify particular eligible degrees, so the student's previous subject should match the chosen course's conditions.
The university's postgraduate admission policy includes entrance assessment, group discussion and personal interview. The 2026 PG calendar placed the group discussion and interview after applications closed, followed by the selected-student list. The university has not confirmed the corresponding 2027 dates on that page.
MTech, MCA and Planning
The PG application page gives a 50% minimum in a relevant bachelor's degree for MTech. Engineering specialisations include Aeronautical Engineering, Defence Technology, Robotics and Mechatronics, Computer Science and Civil Engineering. Eligibility for one specialisation does not automatically cover every branch.
For MCA, the PG form specifies 50% in BCA, BSc Computer Science or an equivalent relevant qualification. The general eligibility page also describes other degrees with Mathematics and bridge-course conditions. Applicants from a non-computing degree should have that qualification accepted by the university before completing admission.
| Postgraduate course | Requirement in the current PG application |
|---|---|
| MTech | Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent with 50% |
| MArch | BArch with 50% |
| MPlan | 50% in Planning, Architecture or Civil Engineering; specified master's degrees are also accepted |
| MCom, including Fintech | BCom with 50% |
| MSc | BSc or an equivalent relevant degree with 50% |
| Master of Sports Management | Graduation in any stream with 50% |

Documents and Joining Requirements
Applicants should have their school marksheets and identity details available when completing the form. Graduates need degree results, while lateral-entry applicants need the relevant diploma or BSc records. Architecture applicants must provide the accepted aptitude-test score. The course application and offer letter specify the final document list.
The 2026–27 university handbook requires new students to attend orientation. It also describes a minimum two-week bridge-course programme for first-year students. These joining activities prepare students for the academic session and take place in addition to admission selection.
HITS Online Admission
Hindustan's Centre for Open and Digital Education accepts applications separately through its online-learning portal. Online BBA accepts a Class 12 qualification from any stream. Online MBA requires 50% in a recognised bachelor's degree, with 45% for the reserved category. MBA lasts two years, while the registration remains valid for four academic years.
Online applicants complete registration, email verification, the application and statement of purpose, and the application-fee payment. The university then checks eligibility. The online course and fee conditions should be used for that mode; campus hostel and counselling arrangements do not form part of the online application.
Course payments, hostel charges and scholarship conditions are explained in the HITS Chennai fees guide.
