ACET 2027 is conducted by the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) and is the entry point for a career in actuarial science. Before you fill the form, you must meet the eligibility conditions set by IAI. This page covers every requirement: the age limit, educational qualification, subject and marks conditions, and what applies if you are still in Class 12. Read each section carefully before you apply.

Age Limit

You must be at least 18 years old on the date you register for ACET 2027. IAI does not set an upper age limit, so you can apply at any age as long as you meet the educational requirements.

  • Minimum age: 18 years at the time of registration
  • Maximum age: None
  • Age is calculated as on the registration date, not the exam date

Educational Qualification Required

If You Have Passed Class 12

You are eligible to apply if you have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognised board. Mathematics must be one of your subjects. You also need to meet the minimum marks conditions described in the section below. There is no restriction on which board you studied under — CBSE, ICSE, state boards and equivalent examinations are all accepted.

If You Are Appearing in Class 12

IAI allows provisional registration if you are currently in Class 12 and your board exam results are not yet out. You can register for ACET before your results are declared. However, your admission to the IAI student membership is confirmed only after you submit your marksheet and meet all eligibility conditions. If you do not meet the marks requirement after results, your registration is cancelled.

If You Are a Graduate

You can apply with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or any other field with a strong quantitative component. Your degree must be from a recognised university. You need a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in your graduation. If your degree is not directly in Mathematics or Statistics, IAI may assess the quantitative content of your programme.

Subject Requirements

LevelRequired SubjectPreferred Subjects
Class 12 (10+2)Mathematics (mandatory)Statistics, Physics, Economics
GraduationMathematics or Statistics (preferred)Economics, Computer Science, Engineering

At the 10+2 level, Mathematics is not just preferred — it is a hard requirement. You cannot apply without it. At the graduate level, a degree in a quantitative field gives you a strong foundation, but IAI does not restrict to Mathematics graduates alone.

Minimum Marks Required

For Class 12 applicants

Subject / ComponentMinimum Marks
Mathematics85%
Overall aggregate (all subjects)60%

For graduate applicants

ComponentMinimum Marks
Overall aggregate in graduation55%

Both conditions must be met for 10+2 applicants — 85% in Mathematics and 60% overall. Meeting only one does not make you eligible. For graduates, IAI requires a 55% aggregate; individual subject marks are not separately specified.

Category-wise Relaxation

IAI is a private professional body. It does not follow the government reservation policy. There is no relaxation in the minimum age, marks or qualification for SC, ST, OBC or EWS categories. Every applicant is assessed on the same standard.

If you have a disability, IAI may offer accommodations during the exam — for example, extra time or a scribe. These are practical adjustments for the test itself and do not change the eligibility conditions. Contact IAI directly to check what support is available and how to request it at the time of registration.

Important Points to Know

  • ACET is held twice a year, typically in January and June or July. You can appear in any session you choose.
  • There is no limit on the number of times you can attempt ACET. You can keep trying until you pass.
  • Both Indian and foreign nationals can apply. Foreign nationals must meet the same eligibility conditions.
  • If you are applying through the 10+2 route, you must score at least 85% in Mathematics — this is a strict cut-off, not a guideline.
  • Provisional registration for Class 12 students does not guarantee membership. Final confirmation depends on your actual marksheet.
  • There is no age relaxation, marks relaxation or category-based exemption of any kind.
  • After you pass ACET, you become a student member of IAI and can begin the actuarial science examination series.
  • Always check the official IAI notification for ACET 2027, as eligibility conditions can be updated before each session.

FAQs on ACET 2027 Eligibility

Can I apply for ACET 2027 if I scored less than 85% in Mathematics in Class 12?

No, you cannot. A minimum of 85% in Mathematics at the 10+2 level is a hard requirement. If your Mathematics score is below 85%, you do not meet the eligibility condition through this route. You may consider completing a graduation degree in a quantitative subject and applying through the graduate route, where the condition is a 55% aggregate.

Can a Class 12 student appearing in the board exam apply for ACET 2027?

Yes. IAI allows provisional registration for students who are yet to receive their Class 12 results. You can register and appear in ACET before your results are out. Your student membership is confirmed only after you submit your marksheet and meet the marks conditions. If your results do not meet the requirement, your registration is cancelled.

Is there an upper age limit for ACET 2027?

No. IAI does not set any upper age limit for ACET. You can apply at any age as long as you are at least 18 years old at the time of registration and meet the educational requirements. Working professionals who want to shift to actuarial science can also apply.

I am an arts or commerce graduate without Mathematics. Am I eligible for ACET 2027?

Eligibility depends on the quantitative content of your degree. IAI requires a strong mathematical background. A pure arts graduate without any quantitative subjects may not qualify. However, a commerce graduate with Statistics, Mathematics or Economics as core subjects may be considered. Check the official IAI notification or contact IAI directly to confirm your specific case.

How many times can I attempt ACET?

There is no limit on the number of attempts. ACET is held twice a year. You can appear in as many sessions as you need until you pass. Each attempt requires a fresh registration and fee payment as per IAI’s schedule.

Do foreign nationals need to meet different eligibility conditions for ACET 2027?

No. Foreign nationals are eligible to apply for ACET and must meet the same eligibility conditions as Indian applicants — minimum age of 18, the required educational qualification, and the minimum marks. There is no separate or relaxed standard for foreign applicants. Check IAI’s official website for any additional documentation that may be required from foreign nationals during registration.
