How CBSE Marks Convert to ATAR

UNSW converts your CBSE, ISC or State Board Class 12 aggregate into an international ATAR on the 0 to 99.95 scale. The conversion is done internally by UNSW admissions using best-four subjects, with English included.

Where UNSW ATAR Bonus Does Not Apply

The UNSW 5-point ATAR bonus does not cover Medicine, UNSW College Foundation, or any postgraduate degree. Only Sydney-based undergraduate courses are inside the IADP.

Here is the full exclusion list you should know before you plan your application:

• Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine offers. This is UNSW’s flagship Medicine pathway.
• UNSW College Foundation Studies, Diploma or English programmes.
• All postgraduate courses. Master’s and PhD candidates use different rules.
• Applicants who enter through the UNSW College pathway instead of direct entry.

Key Insight: Medicine at UNSW uses UCAT scores, an interview and a separate cutoff. The 5-point ATAR boost cannot short-circuit this Medicine pathway.

The postgraduate exclusion is a common misread. Some Indian applicants think the IADP works for Master of Commerce or Master of Engineering Science. It does not.

Foundation and UNSW College students still have a route to UNSW Sydney. They just move through UNSW College first, then articulate into a degree without the ATAR bonus. This means the base academic profile you enter with must be strong on its own.
