Financial Aid offered by University of Victoria

UVic offers provides a number of sources to fund its students’ education. The same are as follows:

  • Scholarships: UVic provides two types of scholarships: Entrance and In-course. Each year $3.5 million are awarded in these scholarships.
  • Bursaries: A bursary is a non-repayable monetary award based on financial need and academic performances of students applying for these bursaries. The University of Victoria awards over 4 million dollars in the entrance, transfer, and in-course bursaries every year. Types of Bursaries:

    • Departmental Bursaries
    • Emergency Bursaries
    • General Bursaries
    • International Bursaries
  • Work-study program: It is funded by Student Awards and Financial Aid (SAFA) to help students financially by providing part-time employment on and off campus
  • Loans and Grants: UVic helps its students get full and partial loans sanctioned to fund their studies at the university. Students can apply for such loans on the official website.

Work Study Program at University of Victoria

University of Victoria has Work Study Program through which students in need of financial aid can get jobs in and around campus.

Students are paid $13.50 per hour plus 4% vacation pay during their employment.

Students must have a 4.5 unit each term in UG and 3 units each term to be eligible to apply for this program. Students are required to meet other requirements as defined by the authorities.

Students can apply for available jobs through the official website. They are required to have a SIN to apply for the same.

Getting a SIN

Having a SIN is mandatory for working and tax purposes. A SIN is valid for 5 years and can be renewed after the term expires. You can obtain a SIN by visiting Service Canada office with the following documents

  1. Your valid Passport
  2. Your study permits
  3. Your work permit from the employer

Student Accommodation at University of Victoria

The University of Victoria provides on-campus residency to its students. UVic has also partnered with Places4Students.com to help its students find off-campus housing easily.

On-campus housing

  • There are 21 dormitory buildings with single and double occupancy rooms. These rooms include a mandatory meal plan
  • It has 121 apartment and townhouse units, called cluster units. Each such cluster unit has four bedrooms.
  • Throughout the dormitory building, 46 bachelor and one-bedroom apartments are offered. These are usually given to graduate students.
