Dawson College Application Deadlines

Dawson runs three teaching terms but only two accept fresh international applicants: Fall (September) and Winter (January). Summer is reserved for continuing Dawson students. Dawson’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September), when most Pre-University and Career programs open.

Late applications for Winter 2027 may be considered if seats remain in a program, but competitive streams like Nursing, Diagnostic Imaging, and Computer Science Technology usually fill before the November 1 deadline. Winter admits fewer programs than Fall, so the Fall March 1 window is where Indian applicants have the widest program choice.

Dawson College Eligibility for Indian Students

Indian applicants qualify for Dawson if their Class XII completion maps to Quebec’s Secondary V level. Dawson evaluates each foreign transcript against the Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES) framework, which is the local equivalent of finishing Grade 11 in most of Canada, not Class XII in the Indian sense. 

Academic entry floor for Indian applicants

• Class XII in any recognised Indian board at roughly 60 percent overall, with the four Quebec prerequisite subjects covered: language of instruction, a second language, Secondary IV Mathematics, and Secondary IV Physical Science.
• Program-specific prerequisites for Career/Technical streams: Nursing and Diagnostic Imaging want higher marks in Chemistry and Biology, Computer Science Technology wants Mathematics through Class XII, and Engineering Technology streams want Physics and Mathematics.
• Missing subjects can be cleared through Dawson’s remedial coursework if space allows, but this delays your first full semester.

English language requirements for Dawson

Indian applicants whose full Class XI and XII schooling was delivered in English medium may request a Medium of Instruction (MOI) waiver. Dawson also waives the English test if you completed a Canadian or American high school in English. If neither applies, you sit an IELTS or TOEFL test. Quebec applicants take a local placement test instead, which is not open to Indian applicants.

French is not required for admission to English-language programs, but you will study one French course as part of Dawson’s general education stream. Placement is done on arrival, so absolute beginners are accommodated.

Dawson Pre-University Programs Guide

Pre-University DEC is a 2-year Diploma of Collegial Studies that is Quebec’s bridge between school and university. It is the standard route into McGill, Concordia, Universite de Montreal, and other Quebec universities. Indian applicants use it either as a pathway to a Quebec bachelor’s or as a strong secondary foundation before applying to another Canadian province. Base tuition sits at CAD 7,575 per semester (INR 5.25 Lakhs) for Pre-University programs. 

Insider note: Enriched Health and Life Sciences and Enriched Pure and Applied Science are the most selective Pre-University streams, typically expecting Class XII near 80 percent in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Mathematics.

Dawson College Career and Technical Programs

Career/Technical DEC is a 3-year vocational diploma that lets graduates enter the Canadian workforce directly. These programs also qualify for a 3-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) subject to current IRCC rules for public DLIs. Tuition is higher than Pre-University: CAD 9,805 per semester (INR 6.79 Lakhs) for Engineering and Artistic streams, and CAD 11,740 per semester (INR 8.13 Lakhs) for Medical programs like Nursing and Diagnostic Imaging.

Planning note: Nursing and Diagnostic Imaging require Quebec clinical placement clearances that take extra weeks. Start immunisation records and criminal background checks the day you receive your offer, not later.

Dawson College Application Process

Dawson uses its own online application centre, not the SRAM consortium that handles most other Quebec CEGEPs. Applications are entered, documents uploaded, and status tracked in one place. The five-step sequence below reflects the current cycle.

1. Create your account on the Dawson Application Centre and select up to two programs in priority order.
2. Pay the application fee of CAD 80 (INR 5,543) combining the CAD 30 base fee (INR 2,079) and the CAD 50 credential evaluation fee (INR 3,465) that applies to all foreign transcripts.
3. Upload documents including Class X and XII transcripts, passport bio page, English test score, and portfolio or letter of intent where the program requires it.
4. Sit any aptitude test where the program mandates it. Portfolio-based streams like Studio Arts and Interior Design use uploaded portfolios instead of an in-person test.
5. Monitor status in the Application Centre. Dawson does not mail letters, so all decisions arrive through the portal.

Do not send documents by email. Anything sent outside the portal is not attached to your file.

Dawson Admission Decisions Timeline

Dawson processes applications in rolling batches after the deadline, so most Fall decisions land between mid-April and mid-May 2027 for the March 1, 2027 deadline. Winter decisions arrive from mid-November through December.

• Offer letter: issued through the Application Centre only, never mailed.
• Acceptance confirmation: usually within 3 to 4 weeks of the offer, with a program-specific confirmation deposit tied to the payment schedule.
• Conditional offers: common if you are still completing Class XII, with final marksheets required before registration.
• Deferrals: Dawson does not offer automatic deferrals. If you cannot join, you reapply for the next intake.

Note: Rejected applicants for competitive Career programs like Nursing are often shortlisted for Pre-University Health and Life Sciences instead, since Dawson processes both program preferences in one review round.

Dawson College Documents Required

Dawson accepts uploaded scans of official documents. Certified translations are needed for anything not in English or French. The list below covers standard Indian applicant paperwork.

• Passport bio page (colour scan, at least 6 months valid).
• Class X and Class XII marksheets plus passing certificates, official school-attested copies.
• English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo), or MOI letter if you qualify for the waiver.
• Letter of intent for programs that ask for one, typically 300 to 500 words on why you chose the program.
• Portfolio for Studio Arts, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and 3D Animation.
• Digital passport-style photograph in the format Dawson specifies during upload.
• Bank statement or financial declaration showing tuition plus living cost capacity, for CAQ and study permit stages later.
• Immunisation records for Nursing, Diagnostic Imaging, Physiotherapy Technology, and Medical Ultrasound Technology.

SOP, LORs, and CV are not part of the Dawson application at CEGEP level. Save those for your subsequent university transfer application after DEC completion.

Dawson College Acceptance Rate for Indians

Dawson’s acceptance rate is estimated at 92 percent, based on competitive-intake patterns across public Quebec CEGEPs. Dawson does not publish an official institutional acceptance figure. In practical terms, this means qualified Indian applicants with the correct prerequisite subjects and IELTS 6.0 clear the door in most programs.

Why Dawson admits so many applicants

CEGEPs in Quebec are funded to serve local students, so out-of-Quebec seats are limited, but the actual selection bar is lower than a Canadian bachelor’s programme. Dawson mainly filters on prerequisite subject completion rather than on aggregate cutoffs, so a Class XII candidate with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry has a wide program menu open.

Canada Study Permit and Quebec CAQ for Dawson

Studying at Dawson needs two government approvals, not one. Quebec issues its own provincial acceptance called the CAQ (Certificat d’acceptation du Quebec), and Canada issues the federal Study Permit. CAQ comes first, always. Dawson is a Designated Learning Institution, so both agencies recognise the college for study permit purposes.

Apply for the CAQ through the Arrima Portal once you have your Dawson letter of acceptance. Processing runs about 20 to 30 business days, with a CAD 128 (INR 8,869) fee. After the CAQ arrives, file the study permit with IRCC. Financial proof must cover one year’s tuition plus updated cost-of-living requirements per the IRCC gazetted threshold. Biometrics are done at your local VFS Global centre in India within 30 days of the application. Full medical insurance is mandatory, and Dawson enrols international students in the college health plan on arrival.

2026 update: Quebec now caps international student intake province-wide, so CAQ processing has tightened. Apply within one week of receiving your Dawson offer to leave enough buffer for the study permit stage.

Dawson’s Fall 2027 window is the widest choice year of the two intakes, so Indian applicants who complete Class XII in March or April 2026 should start assembling documents by September 2026 and submit by January 2027 to avoid last-week portal congestion. Winter 2027 is a viable backup with a November 1, 2026 deadline, but fewer Career programs open in Winter than Fall.
