WORK STUDY OPTIONS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

Educational experience at University British Columbia is much more than just obtaining a UBC undergraduate or graduate program degree. It is also about gaining developing employable skills, building a network, and gaining professional experience. All this can be done with UBC work study programs, available for both domestic and international students.

University of British Columbia’s work study program offers five components to aid a student’s personal growth:

    • Personal and professional development
    • Learning workplace skills and etiquette
    • Exploring potential career options
    • Experimental academic learning
    • Ongoing mentorship

As you must be aware international students, on Canadian student visa, are required to adhere to certain regulations while opting to work part-time (or work study) during their studies, not just at UBC but any Canadian university. Students may even require a work permit.

Like in any other university, international students at UBC can choose to work on-campus or off-campus.

On-Campus Work Study Options at UBC

UBC on-campus work study opportunities include university-related work such as working at facilities like clinics, research institutes, teaching, etc.

Apart from this, students may choose to work with:

    • UBC student organization
    • Private contractor operating within UBC campus boundaries.

For these on-campus employment options, international students do not require any work permit. However, if their on-campus work is an internship or co-op program, then they may need the Canadian work permit.

Off-Campus Work Study Options at UBC

Off-campus work options include volunteering and internship opportunities. UBC students enrolled in any program, do not require a work permit for off-campus work as well, as long as you maintain your full-time student status.

While it is your choice to go for on-campus or off-campus work options, international students are highly recommended to seek on-campus employment. This is because UBC on-campus jobs do not have any restrictions in terms of the number of working hours. However, students working off-campus can only work for 20 hours per week. Therefore, decide your UBC working while studying options wisely.

The Sauder School of Business is ranked as one of top business schools in Canada. The campus is beautiful and very inclusive. It is very easy to find your space and voice on campus. The campus has everything on it and you do not need to commute far away for anything. Lots of work opportunities.

    Course Curriculum :

Industry exposure is the key to teaching at UBC Sauder. 1st and 2nd year focus on gaining skills in all areas of business (HR, accounting, finance, operations, marketing, btm). In third year you choose a specialization and apply skills learned previously to real business case studies. In fourth year, you apply those skills and work with real companies on client consulting projects.

I searched on their online website portal as advised by my grandparents who have been settled in Canada over the past 3 years and have taught their children in this same university. I reviewed their online website and learnt about the amazing infrastructure and integrative course in nursing taught by some of the renowned professors. Hence I applied on their online portal and paid an application fees of $120.

    Course Curriculum :

I found the course curriculum very practice based which enabled me to undergo learning experiences taking place in the classroom, community, laboratory, and in clinical settings promoting incorporation and demonstration of theoretical knowledge into practice.
