FAQs
Ques. Can I pursue the Master of Kinesiology without a kinesiology background?
Ans. No; applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, or an allied health discipline (athletic therapy, nursing, physiotherapy). The program assumes foundational knowledge of exercise physiology and biomechanics. If your background is adjacent (biology, sports medicine), contact the Graduate Admissions office for a bridge program option.
Ques. Is the M.Kin a thesis-based or course-based program?
Ans. It is primarily thesis-based; you complete 10-12 coursework units and conduct independent research under faculty supervision, culminating in a thesis defense. Course-based alternatives are available but less common; inquire during application.
Ques. Can I work part-time while studying?
Ans. Yes; international students can work up to 20 hours per week during study terms (minimum 3 hours/week in-class requirement). Research assistantships and teaching assistantships often count toward this limit and provide relevant experience.
Ques. What is the typical timeline from admission to graduation?
Ans. Most students complete the program in 24 months (Fall intake graduating Fall 2 years later). Thesis completion can extend timelines; discuss expected timelines with your prospective supervisor during faculty matching to align expectations.
Ques. Are there opportunities to study abroad or do research exchanges?
Ans. Yes; the university’s International Office supports student exchanges with partner institutions in the USA, UK, and Europe. Faculty in biomechanics and aging research often facilitate co-authored publications with international collaborators, enabling research visits.
