Ques. I have an option to choose from GMC/GSMC, Mumbai and KGMU lucknow for MBBS. Which college should I opt for?

Ans. I will try to answer this query as per my limited knowledge. As for GMC, its teaching standards have declined. The classes aren’t as rich as in previous times. Even the study culture isn’t as good now. Only the brand name remains. Because of this, GSMC is currently much better ranked than GMC. So if you are from Lucknow, choose KGMU over GMC Mumbai. MBBS is quite stressful, and homely support does a lot for mental health. Both GSMC and KGMU are good medical colleges. Choosing between these is a bit difficult. Research on the condition of PG reservation at Maharashtra colleges, and Provincial Health Services (PHS) rule in UP. This will help you make a better decision.  Both GSMC Mumbai and KGMU are excellent choices.Choose between the two based on various factors that I have listed above. Read more

Ques. Which is better to join for an MBBS, GMC Patiala, GMC Mumbai, Seth GS Medical College, KGMU, or GMCH Chandigarh?

Ans. Based on the opinions within the medical community, I will provide some information on these colleges- GSMC- It is a highly renowned college. High rankers in UG and PG entrance choose it for pursuing their medical studies. Clinical teaching is very good over here.  Grant Medical College Mumbai- It is one of the top 10 medical colleges of India. But its fees have skyrocketed recently. The campus is not in a good shape too. However, this college is one of the only 5 colleges whose degrees are approved in Singapore. So if you plan to pursue your PG abroad, a degree from GMC Mumbai will open the doors of Singapore for you. KGMU- It is one of the best medical colleges in North India, and especially UP. It is well reputed, and the campus is really good. The infrastructure is top notch, better than most government colleges. The teachers are decent, and the students are hardworking. You’ll get a good clinical exposure over here. For an outsider though, adjusting to the UP culture might be a little difficult at first. I don’t know much about GMC Patiala and GMCH Chandigarh, so I won’t comment on these two.  Make sure to choose a college with hardworking students. Good company will motivate you to study harder and excel in your field. Food and language barriers aren’t much of a problem in the long run. Read more

The best way to determine the right college for M.B.B.S. is to analyze the pros and cons of these colleges individually  KGMU Pros   Ikr of the highly ranked medical college ranked 45 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 by NIRF.  It’s located in a more developed and bigger city and has a huge beautiful campus. Offers excellent clinical exposure It has a 50% state PG quota It receives huge funds from the state government. KGMU Cons It’s a State medical college It’s pay scale is quite less in comparison to Central colleges It has less number of pg seats The college has caste-based reservations. Students are required to serve the rural service bond JNMC AMU Pros It’s a central government institute so has better pay grades as compared to state colleges  There is a 50% internal reservation, with no caste boundaries  Internal are also eligible for external seats so if you get a good rank you can easily get a seat in the open category. It has a better UG-PG seat ratio You don’t have to serve any kind of service bond Better academic ambiance and clinical exposure. A completely ragging-free campus JNMC AMU Cons There is no state quota in the PG Does not have a very good reputation so receives less funding.  Aligarh is not a big city as compared to Lucknow. Ans. No, Christians are not the only ones allowed at CMC Vellore for MBBS. This is one of the most common misconceptions about the college. CMC Vellore does have a unique admission system, but it's not exclusively for Christians: Christian sponsored seats: ~53-55% of MBBS seats are reserved for Christian candidates sponsored by registered church bodies/Christian organisations. These candidates need a church sponsorship letter. Open/All India seats: The remaining ~45-47% seats are open to candidates of all religions via NEET merit. These are highly competitive — CMC open category NEET cutoff is typically 650+ marks. so there are TWO different tracks at CMC: Christian track — lower NEET cutoff (since competition is within Christians only), requires church sponsorship Open track — very high NEET cutoff, no religion requirement CMC Vellore is a Christian minority institution (run by the Christian Medical College & Hospital Society) so the Christian seat reservation is legally protected. but they have never been exclusively for Christians. some of India's finest doctors from all backgrounds have graduated from CMC. if you score 650+ NEET, you can apply for the open merit seats regardless of religion.Read more

Here are the advantages of doing an MBBS from CMC Vellore rather than doing it at AIIMS/JIPMER - CMC Vellore receives a  huge patient inflow,  which is around  8000 patients per day.  CMC offers a wide exposure of rare and common diseases to students during their clinical postings. The  faculty is nationally and internationally renowned.  The CMC teachers are devoted towards carrying out new research activities, and they are very supportive as well. But in this case, AIIMS and JIPMER are equally good. CMC follows the  best protocol system  among premier medical institutes in India. It offers the  best patient care and a wide range of learning opportunities.   The  UG hostels at CMC are better than JIPMER and AIIMS . The  senior-junior interaction is really good in CMC hostels. By doing an MBBS at CMC, one gets  electives in foreign universities  and  secondary hospital programs (SHP) across India during clinical years . The  internship period at CMC offers more exposure  as compared to other premier medical colleges in India. CMC has a  student governing body system . Ques. Why must we do a two-year bond service as an all-India open category MBBS candidate in CMC Vellore?

Ans. Though a 2-year bond may seem undesirable for an MBBS student at CMC Vellore, it is quite fair.  AFMC has in place a 7-year bond period . In addition to this, several state medical colleges have a bond period as well. I completed a 2 year bond period after my MBBS from CMC Vellore in 2017. The bond period is a great time for learning. It transformed a fresh MBBS graduate like me into a clinician/surgeon. It is the  perfect time to decide on MD specialization .  During my bond period,  I worked for 2 years in a secondary hospital  where the patient profiles were very diverse. The hospital I worked at receives patients with MIs, DKA, Strokes, PUOs, CKD, RTAs with polytrauma and head injuries, etc.  By the end of my bond period, I had received so much exposure that I knew which PG specialization I wanted to opt for. It is much better than sitting at home and mugging books. Practical knowledge is essential in the field of medicine.  My experience has helped shape me as a clinician. Thus, I would suggest you do not regret choosing CMC Vellore because of the 2-year bond period.Read more

Ans. Admission to MBBS at CMC Vellore is solely based on the score obtained by the candidates in NEET UG. CMC Vellore has two quotas for MBBS admission namely Government Quota (50%) and Management Quota (50%).  CMC Vellore MBBS Management Quota  50% of the MBBS seats at CMC Vellore will be filled up by the management based on NEET UG scores under three broad categories:  Open Category: Any candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply under this category based on merit.  Minority Network: Eligible Christian students can apply for MBBS under this category.  CMC Vellore Staff Quota: Children of eligible members of the staff of CMC Vellore can apply under this category.  CMC Vellore MBBS Government Quota  50% of the remaining MBBS seats will be filled by the State Government based on NEET UG scores in the given manner:  30% of the seats will be filled by the State Government based on NEET UG as per the government reservation policy.  20% of the seats will be for the candidates belonging to the Christian minority from the state strictly by the NEET merit list. Candidates under both categories have to first register for CMC Vellore MBBS admissions on its official website during the stipulated registration period. Once the NEET Results are announced, the candidates have to sign in to the registration portal and submit their NEET roll number, score, and All India rank. All the candidates applying for CMC Vellore MBBS   have to then mandatorily apply for counseling by the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee , Directorate of Medical Education.
